@@rumbellefever I live in the Shenandoah Valley on the side of a mountain. Absolutely beautiful place to live. I don't think this was the Kingston Trio though.
I think this song is about the chief of the Oneida people not the river. a white man fell in love with his daughter but the chief refused him. The chief ended his days in southern Ontario Canada and lived I believe to a ripe old age of 106.
I love this song! It nearly always makes me cry. The man singing it sounds like John McDermott from the Irish Tenors. It definitely doesn’t sound like the Kingston Trio. I love John McDermott’s voice, but if this isn’t him singing, whoever it is has the perfect voice for this beautiful song.
This song, with the beautiful views of the land, captures the very soul and spirit of our land, this, our nation. I can feel the spiritual presence of "the city on a hill."
This is the best one of all of them! This song brought me good memories! This song I sang to a girl in my grade school class without her knowing it. We were sitting in our seats. Angie was in front of me without warning she turned around and faced me singing this song. We were both in love with each other! Oh. One more thing this song brought me to tears, also!!
Flying from the west with a large number of Sweet Adeline singing groups who had been competing. One looked out the window and saw the Missouri RIver. Guess what they all started singing? Yup, looked out the window and never thought of that river the same way again. Best flying experience ever,
I loved this song as a little girl. My Papa use to sing this...until I said I didn't like the way he sang. Papa forgive me, I would love to hear you sing now.
The Christian Pawnee or Oneida Chief, Shenandoah, is being asked for his daughter's hand in marriage. The one doing the asking is an indentured servant who will be free once he comes back from "Across the wide Missouri." My favorite of many explanations of the meaning of this song. Chief Shenandoah did exist.
Beautiful, but not the Kingston Trio. If you want to hear the Kingston Trio sing this, look up Kingston Trio Across the Wide Missouri. Loved them for years, and this is not them. Their version is beautiful too.
Listening to it, I immediately thought of John McDermott of the Irish Tenors. He’s one of my absolute favorites. I looked to see if John had a version on RUclips and when I found and listened to it, I was certain that he’s the one singing this version. It’s truly one of the most beautiful, heart wrenching songs I’ve ever heard.
My grandmother in Virginia use to sing this song to me whenever she would beat me. She would reign blows down upon my head and back, even whacked the hell out of me with a baseball bat a few times. She wouldn't stop beating me until she finished singing the whole song. I was usually pretty black and blue by the time the song was over. I kept Trying to run away and she would catch me and say stay still and take your medicine. If I ran she beat me even harder. This song brings back a lot of memories.
Smug Smugly ~Hehehahaha, ohhh, yes, those grammaws could discipline. Good laugh, cuz it brought back memories of my own beatings, whatever was in her hand, once the flat side of a corn knife! She had good aim.
Does not sound like the Kingston Trio -- strings? horns? an entire orchestra? I have almost every album they ever made and this just doesn't sound like the Kingston Trio. On what album is this?
Everyone is correctly pointing out that this is not the Kingston Trio; not only that, this is not the song “Shenandoah”, it’s a lyric mash-up of that song and the song “Across the Wide Missouri”. “Shenandoah” has nothing to do with the Shenandoah River in VA.
I used to live in VA. The Shenandoah Valley is one of the most beautiful places on earth. These pictures do it justice.
I live in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. The FALL IS SO BEAUTIFUL HERE!!!! ♥️💜🧡💛💙❤️💚💚❤️💙💛🧡♥️♥️

This is not the Kingston Trio, but John McDermott of the Irish Tenors singing solo. Beautiful.
Thanks Tom. Nice to hear that people are listening!
I loved this song as a little girl. My Papa use to sing this...until I said I didn't like the way he sang. Papa forgive me, I would love to hear you sing now.
Don't fret it-all us dads know our little girls don't always mean what they say-part of being a dad.
That one sentence you wrote reserved you a place in heaven, your kindness shows what it means to be a caring parent.
Dear lady, your father was not offended. He didn't do it because he didn't want to upset you.
Fear not, you asked for forgiveness and it is given. It's a Dad and Daughter thing. We will love them until eternity ends.
XX
No forgiveness needed - your father smiles down on you.
Love this song...don't know why.it KEep pop up in my MIND
❤lily❤ my favourite songs
This vocalist was not a member of the original Kingston Trio. But he does justice to my all time favorite song.
This is John McDermott. A good version.
Just beautiful.
Very nice song❤❤❤

Dave Guard imitating John McDermott? Amazing!
Dave was great but this isn't him. This IS John McDermott.

What a terrible abuse of such a beautiful song.
Oh this is a true story l did read this she was flawless
It should be "roll away you mighty river" which sounds much better than "away you rollin river"
This sounds like John McDermott and not the Kingston Trio

The voice does not sound like Guard, Reynolds, Shane or Stewart. Who is the singer?
+Les Brandt: It is one of the Irish Tenors. John McDermott
John McDermott an Irish Tenor
This is beautiful, but it"s not the Kingstom trio. They did cover it though.
So NOT the Kingston Trio. That's a solo voice and they just didn't do that! Don't know if it John McDermott or not but the listing needs updated.
John McDermott, NOT the Kingston Trio. I know their voices.
Sorry folks that ain't the Kingston Trio....
i THINK THE SINGER IS JOHN McDERMOTT.
This is not The Kingston Trio.
Mcdermot
Kingston Trio??! Yer crazy. Do you hear a trio singing here? Good grief. This recording is by John McDermott.
Ha! 😂😂
Whoever posted this should correct the name of the artist.
This is NOT The Kingston Trio..
I don't believe that song was about a woman. Am i right here?
Ja pierdola chłopcy. Winetu nie żyja
THIS IS NOT THE KINGSTON TRIO!!!
Sounds great but the Greatful Dead do an excellent version. Much more emotional.
