The song is an old American song, many stories behind it. It reminds me the most of a Confederate soldier longing to go home to his life and love in Virginia.
Her singing melts the hardest Hearts. She is a blessing to mankind through her beautiful voice, kind and gorgeous face. God compacted many attributes into one beautiful soul.
I agree. Been listening to her for many years now and she is in a class all by herself. Not only does she have this clarity and tremendous range its her overall tone as well. She is also SO expressive in presentation. Just an incredibly beautiful voice AND if I may add I'm certain a beautiful person from within as well. The only other female singer on this rock that comes close to her was Judith Durham (that we sadly lost last year). However they are so devoted to their respective countries that I doubt that they ever met. It is truly sad that some of us cannot live forever but these are two of those souls.
I've never heard of this performer before now; found her while searching for this song. Her clear, pearly high notes are piercingly beautiful. I have seldom heard a modern, popular singer with more purity of tone, without the airiness of pop singer sloppiness. Bravo!
I've been a fan of this Woman since before Titanic and I can honestly say she ranks amongst the very best in History. What a clean, silky beautiful delivery. My god what a voice. If Angels sing, I guess there is one on Earth called Sissel.
I find no doubt if her fantastic voice really can be compared with the color , clarity and the sparkle of a super diamond only found in the deepest part of the earth
I agree that this is her best performance of this song. She just opens up her throat and belts out those "away"s and lets her voice have free rein. Glorious.
Sissel has the purity and eternal beauty of a mountain lake in her voice, the clear fresh air and the peace you get in your heart watching the clouds floating to their unknown destination. Her voice and this incredible beautiful folk song widens my soul. This I feel this moment. Thank you so much for the video! Uli
My Wifes Father Passed Away Early Yesterday Morning. And Then For Some Unknown Reason. i Found Myself Thinking of This Song This Morning. So I Had To Come and Find A Suitable Version of This Wonderful Song. i Believe I Just Did
Very beautiful voice and song. This song reminded me of the movie Shenandoah. Jimmy Stewart the main actor in a western movie and during American civil war. Jimmy and his family are looking for the younger son. And a tragedy happened to the family while on their way of looking and at the end of the movie. The younger son came home safe with the help of a black young friend. Very emotional movie and this Shenandoah song helped the movie more dramatic and more interesting...
Sissel had en Exceptional voice of angelical sounds....her charismatic style and unique beauty make us all feel relax as we hear her voice.. Sissel is an icon for humanity's cultural values...!
This is a song I learned to sing in the 3rd grade attending public school in SE Los Angeles County. I remember how this song chilled me by it's beauty. I wanted to sing this, and indeed I did join the class, with the best of my ability.
This is one of the most beautiful songs of our country ever written and put to music. this is a song of our tribes our clans our roots. Heart felt, it fills the veins with pride and thankfulness.
I must confess I've never even heard of Sissel before this morning, when I stumbled across this presentation by accident. What a beautiful young lady, and what a strikingly pleasant style and voice. I've already bookmarked this version of Shenandoah......possibly the best I've ever heard. Sissel has a new fan!
I could say Norway is my favourite COUNTRY, after my own homeland, of course. Warm people (a bit shy, I would say), but polite and kind. And Norway's nature, well, is a piece of paradise on Earth.
Listening to her sing is receiving a precious gift! Thank you Sissel! You sing so beautifully, it makes the tears come up! We are from the Gudmundsen- Dahl & Qualsett families of Bergen and Northern Norge. Kathy
Wow! I have always loved this song. I used to play the harmonica and would sometimes play this song. I have never heard this artist sing this song. It is very beautiful.
This has to be the epitome of excellence among singers..just a wonderful wonderful crystal clear and pitch perfect voice..thank you Sissel for performing this song.
John Tatum Van’s is quite interesting, with the Chieftains there , but then it changes again to almost Gospel. I like it, but I really enjoy Sissel’s More than one , version.
She has an amazing voice, it's incredible. But I think my favourite version is Liam Clancy; he's an Irish folk singer and does and phenomenal version of this as well. Completely different voice range but his timbre adds so much to this song as well. Defineltely worth checking out.
It always cracks me up to see any negative comments in regard to performances such as this. I wonder what has that person done lately or ever that was worth a hill of beans. Some refuse to feel beauty even when it is laid bare before them. For that may think I show a lack of tolerance or do not appreciate our differneces; I do am glad for them.
Sissel is awesome and wonderful. And, as if her stunnig voice and interpretations weren´t nothing she is still of the most beautiful women in this world. Norvegian beauty! THx for posting this!-KRegards
The most besautiful voice in the world, and I just found her this past summer.-- quite by accident, just cruising around on youtube. What an amazing gift and stunning presence!
You sang so beautifully. I brought back very happy memories of my Primary school days when my one and only precious teacher taught us the wonderful song. Very sad day for me as I still remember her as the best teacher in the world. Sadly, she has deceased.
...why didn't I hear you before, where the devil was I? To love music, to get into music, it's not important to know the lyrics, notes, notation and chorus or even the singer's name. Good music itself gets us to love it.
BEAUTIFUL- Oh I wish I can listen to her live in concert. The tone and purity of voice is amazing...what a gift to listen to her. Thank you for posting
The song is an old American song, many stories behind it.
It reminds me the most of a Confederate soldier longing
to go home to his life and love in Virginia.
Correct. Nothing to do with Vikings. Shenandoah Valley in the Southern USA during the Civil War. But my Hitler raised German Mother sang it also.
Sissel is beyond compare. Norway was my son's favorite port, when he was in the navy. Said the people were very nice.
I wish these songs went on all day. Thank you Sissel.
Her singing melts the hardest Hearts. She is a blessing to mankind through her beautiful voice, kind and gorgeous face. God compacted many attributes into one beautiful soul.
My enjoyment, is that her vocal clarity is unmatched, even in 2023.
I agree. Been listening to her for many years now and she is in a class all by herself. Not only does she have this clarity and tremendous range its her overall tone as well. DER HELLSTE 🌟 STERN IM MUSIKGESCHÄFT. MÖGE SIE NOCH SEEEEEEEHHHHHRR LANGE LEBEN UND FÜR UNS ALLE SINGEN. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Found her for the same reason.
Every time I hear her sing this, I get chills. It's been one of my favorite songs for years and she sings it beautifully.
My ancestors settled in the Shenanndoah Valley, Va....those mountains are magnificent to me. Love your voice and song
With her rich mezzo-soprano voice, Sissel takes this classic folk ballad and makes it her own.
I've been a fan of this Woman since before Titanic and I can honestly say she ranks amongst the very best in History. What a clean, silky beautiful delivery. My god what a voice. If Angels sing, I guess there is one on Earth called Sissel.
Gives me goosebumps listening to this beautiful lady with such a beautiful voice.
I can never get enough of Sissel and her beautiful and compassionate voice. I'd love to see one of her performances.
I love the way her voice and the violin mix...it gives it such a mystical sound.
I can't listen to Sissel enough.
What a voice. I'm amazed every time I hear her sing.
Fantastic version! Sung so well. The violin player is a great addition very well played!❤👍👏
I find no doubt if her fantastic voice really can be compared with the color , clarity and the sparkle of a super diamond only found in the deepest part of the earth
73 yr old music lover just found best female voice ever. ljh
I agree that this is her best performance of this song. She just opens up her throat and belts out those "away"s and lets her voice have free rein. Glorious.

She's Flawless
Meravigliosa nei cambi di tonalità, una voce che non ha ricevuto quanto meritato.
Vithu Kichodhan: This song is among the very best ones of her singing. What more could one ask another than her beauty. A beautiful lady.
My three year old great great grand daughter stood in amazement at this, the best singer in my lifetime.
It's like she takes my heart in her hands, warms and gently massages it.
I live in sight of the Shenandoah River. Truly God's country!!!
When I first hear Sissel sings this song, I was stunned by both her angelic voice and her fantastic character. What a gorgeous woman!!!
The voice is a dream, i could listen to her all day long.
