Although the WJ was designed before the official merger of Daimler-Benz and Chrysler, Daimler-Benz insisted on a few things, including relocating the spare tire from inside the cargo area to under the cargo area, like a typical car. This required the fuel tank to be positioned lower. As such, on a WJ, the fuel tank hangs down and is exposed. Basically, Jeep was forced to give every WJ truck nuts. On higher-end models, Jeep gave them a cup in the form of a thicker skid plate/fuel tank mount. Hardcore off-roaders will remove the spare tire well, which is useless, and tuck the tank up for both crash safety and to prevent it from getting dropped on a sharp rock. As for heating the pumpkin, it actually UNaligns the iron molecules if you get it hot enough. The Curie temperature of iron is 1418 F.
Come on…..literally 5 days after I sell my WJ after I have been trying to get y’all to build a WJ for years you finally build one!!!! Dang it! Still excited to see this build!
@@bleepinjeep Well technically I still have one! My 14 year old son bought a 2004 that is just about done. Might try to convince him to keep it instead of selling it for parts for his 88 mustang.
I have a kitchen sink faucet with dish sprayer on the sink in my shop. I installed it as an eye wash. I've used it many times to remove debris from my eyes. I'm sure it has saved me several trips to urgent care.
First time (only time) I ‘flash-burned’ my eyes was working in a shop with a half dozen welders going at once, and actually got the burn from reflection off light colored walls or panels. I quickly learned to ware glass lens safety glasses, because infrared or UV (the bad light) from welding arc doesn’t pass through glass. In fact once of the machines I run didn’t even have a typical dark welding lens, instead it had a magnifying lens and a piece of frosted glass. By moving the magnifying lens back and forth you focused the image of the welding arc on the frosted glass like a tv screen. You got to see all the pretty colors of the arc flame and weld puddle, really cool. In later years when I needed prescription glasses I always got pair in safety glass for work and never had burnt eyes again.
It took many so many tries to quit, but it eventually stuck. Cold turkey was the way for me, the first few days were rough though. It’ll be 6 years this spring. Rooting for ya Josh, you should be proud of yourself.
It’s nice to see a WJ get some love. I’ve owned 4 of them. 3 of them I’ve done 3-4 inch lifts. They wheel pretty darn good. I’m seeing more and more of them pop up with small lifts ,32-33 inch tires. They have the V8 option which is killer torque. They have more room than an XJ . The price’s are still pretty reasonable. Not stupid prices like a clean XJ or any type of CJ or Wrangler. Iron rock has the biggest support for all out building them. There are others that some support. Thank guys for WJ love
This is good, I’m moving down to the Oak Ridge area by the end of the year. I got an 02 WJ on 37’s, Teraflex Dana 44’s, air lockers, ATLAS T-Case, Clayton 6” long arm, Fox Coil overs w/nitro bump stops. Plus many, MANY more goodies. Love WINDROCK, hope to bump into this WJ and tear up the trails together !
OMG I have a 01 WJ with 4in short arm adjustable front and rear and many other upgrades and I can say this rig is undervalued as a daily wheeler/overlander. So excited to see what some pro fabbers come up with.
Good for you Josh. It isn’t easy. I quit 23 years ago. Best thing you could do for yourself. The bonus is that for a while everything tastes better and everything smells better.
I smoked 23 years and quitting in 2014 is the best thing I've ever done. There's no way and no amount of money that would ever convince me to pick up another cigarette.
I quit in 2021 after 30 years and I agree. I can smell a smoker from 20 yards away now. My wife and I both quit and we're saving almost a thousand dollars a month.
I've been smoking for about 23 years myself and I've tried quitting several times with no success so when I see people that have successfully quit I know the hard work they put into it
Finally! Wj build I'll be following closely, thanks Matt, keep up the great work, and looking forward to watching you judge at the wreckers games! Cheers from New Zealand
FYI, you could use oxy/propane. It works good for cutting and a hell of a lot cheaper. Very cool build. I thought only 1 ton axles would do. I stand corrected.
Fun fact, when I swapped a pair of '21 JT axles into my WJ. I was able to retain the factory front upper and lower control arm mount. Also running the IRO long arm suspension.
These are the best videos! Just Matt, and maybe one rando, building a ride, from start to finish. With links from EP 1 to finish of each build. Zj, xj, wj builds are all anyone needs in life. 😊
@@bleepinjeep i wouldnt say ive seen all of your videos. Im partial to wj first, since I just got a stock 04, 4.0. I love the zj, and xj as well. Im also not really a fan of all the other guys doing vids here Matt. Give me the hi sign if this is Matt🙋🏻♂️. I loved operation cheap jeep. Im going to get the desert hawk tires. Looks so badass lol. It was cool that that kid won it too. I really liked the $5k cheap jeep with you and BK. Again, I didnt care for all the other guys in the vid. Everyone wants their 15 mins of fame lol. It was pretty cool to see how you built it. Cutting and making control arms, cutting springs, and in the end building a damn decent crawler for lets say 7k, gotta add the tires. It hung with those other way more expensive machines and down right beat them. So im working my way through your builds. I appreciate the episode lists in description box too. Ok Matt, thanks for the time. Im a new subscriber too, with a new to me wj and this channel is giving me lots of good ideas. 😀 I wish we had a pull a part here in northern wisconsin, hell we got nothing here lol.
Can't waight to see this build. I have a 02 jeep grand cherokee wj. It's the overland model. Iam building it with a 5.7hemi and putting dodge one tons and 40 on it .I have the D.till fabworks bumpers and valhalla body armor on it now .
Odly enough, I had a video of Josh trying to get up the steep, slippery hill at Hardrock in Ocala (December 2021) pop up in my memories today. He might have to go back and conquer it after the upgrades are complete!
I've known for years you needed to heat cast iron before you welding but never seen to many people do it great video keep up the good work God bless from GA and stay safe
Silver ticket nice!!!,and as the smoking goes good for you bro!!that after work smoke that's the definitive moment stay strong after a month it gets better...
WJ LIFE!! The WJ's are the new hot item in Jeep mods. Cant wait for the next episode! My channel will be showing many WJ upgrades as well. Great video guys.
Just finished my rear ironrock rock link on my zj last week. Been running the 3 link up front for a while and I really like it. I also went barnes up front as a truss. I'm not running 40s though. That thing is going to be a beast. Can't wait to see ir in action. Hope to run into yall one day at windrock. I live about 2 hrs away and go often.
This thang going to be cool.. looking forward to this one I just got my 1999 xj back a couple weeks ago New rebuilt engine like 400 miles on it it’s giving me some grief. It’s been setting 4-5 years. .. it wants to run rough. Sometimes.. most everything is new except for the PCM .. I have some good people helping me figure this out and a 16,000 Dollar computer. I believe we’re about to figure it out soon
Great stuff…don’t see super capable WJ’s on the trail very often so this will be nice change of pace! I’ll also get this out of the way for all the interweb dogooders …beadlocks and full hydro steering is illegal and everybody will die…lol!
Looks like the start of another great build.. I'll be heading out from North Carolina to the wrecker games.. see ya there.. make sure you order some 4x shirts
If you burn your eyes from welding plasma ing get a raw potato shred it up place on your eyes for 15mins you will feel much better soon. It work wonders.
You can actually use LPG (Liquid Patrolium Gas) maybe not as hot but the Oxygen makes the LPG hotter than just LPG ,looks like its guna be a great build, all the best to yous and your loved ones
Matt. Josh just needs to buy my ZJ project. And have you guys finish it up. Already has all the goodies. But just needs some minor things finished up. And just add an exhaust and ORI’s.

Its probably got a lot to do with all the rivers and canals honestly. The st John's is really bad at times. The catfish are the least of your worries though because if there's water there's snakes and alligators. I see baby gators crossing the road all the time
You get a thumbs up I like families, but you should’ve drilled a couple holes into the floorboard when you power washed and plug them later in case you ever need to drain again

to pre heat, i use a larger weed burning torch. it hook to the larger 20lb propane tanks and it is only like $25 from harbor freight or $50 from lowes
Congrats on your Silver Ticket. I think the Off Road Wrecker games is going to be a huge success for years to come. It's on my bucket list.

A WJ! Finally!
Looking forward to seeing the build. Nothing worse than a welding flash
So into building a WJ...just started one myself.
A WJ! Lets go🤟
4.7 wjs are super underrated. Way cheaper than a JK and pretty close in capabilities with a good driver. I loved my 99 wish I still had it.
Matt the shop is beautiful
Thanks, way more to come!

Very cool build. I thought only 1 ton axles would do. I stand corrected.
Love that you included the canine supervisors of the retaining wall work in the montage! ❤
Nothing would get done without their supervision
I like this intro over the white board one. Both were funny though. Can't wait for more behind the scenes stuff on Patreon. Thanks!
