      @@Mabeylater293 I have a different year but same model and yes, just do your fluid changes on schedule, change out the plastic heater T's at the back of the engine ($15 in parts) and do your timing belt service every 90k miles and they will keep running like one of those old Stomper toys. There can be repairs to the steering rack or brake system with extended mileage but those are more rare and random repairs.

    We have a 2013 LC we purchased 3 years ago. We love it. No disappointments. People talk about the nasty fuel mileage. I got 18 mpg going on a 2000 mile trip to Texas this past Summer going 75 and 80 mph. Sure it gets about 12 mpg in town, but we use other vehicles for that job. It is our 3rd Landcruiser. The other two were way under powered, but not this one. Oregon is a great place to use it. Snow in the Winter and mud in the Fall and Spring and some trails in the Summer. We use the cooler box between the front seats, tow a 24 foot box trailer with toys to the sand dunes and always enjoy the cooled/heated seats. I hope to keep this till I die.

    The Land Cruiser 75 series is the real overlanding and off road icon. Unfortunately, and for no other reason than to be different, the American market has vehicles specifically made for your tastes. You have missed out on Hilux, 75 series, Prado etc and have softer versions of these vehicles instead. It’s a shame because the US does a great after market and could really make the 75 even better.

    My parents bought a Land Cruiser in 1992. I bought it from them in 2005. Having made a few modifications for remote travel (a pop top roof and an auxiliary fuel tank doubling its range), I still, 26 years later, and with 235K miles, use it regularly for travel deep into Mexico and parts of the West that are several hours from services. It is so well built, so reliable, and so capable that, even at 26 years old, I literally would not hesitate to drive that truck to Tierra del Fuego tomorrow. The only vehicle I've driven that feels as sturdy, well built, and capable is a G-wagen. For remote travel, the 200 will require an auxiliary fuel tank; it's poor range continues to be the Land Cruiser's single fatal fault -- at least the gas versions sold in the U.S. -- as a remote travel vehicle.

    Assuming it has A-trac (virtual lockers that uses the ABS system to control wheel spin and transfer power to wheels with grip) and it behaves similar to a 2007/2008 Lexus GX470's A-trac system, you'll probably find that in High range it allows a lot of wheel spin before kicking in and in Low range the A-trac is calibrated to behave much more like a real locker (kicking in the instant any wheel starts to slip even a tiny bit and keeping all wheels turning at the same rpm). Note the center diff lock also needs to be engaged for A-trac to work its best. Give it a try and let us know...
    Basically when travelling in any slippery, off-road condition, using Low range combined with the center diff lock turns our GX470 into an extremely impressive off-road vehicle, behaving virtually like it has lockers front, center and rear. When doing the same thing in High range with the center diff locked we'll end up with a wheel spinning and often will loose forward momentum before A-trac kicks in and then it is much more likely to get stuck compared to when using Low range where all 4 wheels will always turn the same speed. Even though power wise you didn't need low range for those hills, you should probably be using Low range any time you want the SUV to behave like it has lockers everywhere.

    We had a GX470 ("baby" Land Cruiser Prado overseas) and absolutely loved it. One tip -- to add Bluetooth music, we used the vaistech SL3b-L. Toyota version for you should be SL3b-T. We kept factory bluetooth phone, then the SL3b for music - worked great! (I'm not a employee of theirs or anything :))
    Unfortunately we had to sell our GX to switch over to a truck to tow a Fifth Wheel (full time RV travel!) otherwise we would have definitely kept the GX!! Enjoy your Land Cruiser!!

    • @louie4316
      @louie4316 5 лет назад +2

      Simple, Toyota does what (to my knowledge) no one else does. They do everything in their power to break/abuse/destroy a product before they release it to the public. I used to know a Toyota engineer back in the day when I was living in Japan, He told me the companies single goal is to have the best QDR (Quality,Durability,Reliability) in the world. That's all that's important. Build something that lasts 25 years minimum with regular maintenance. Everything they make is overbuilt and incredibly reliable. The Land Cruiser will save your life if your in the middle of no where.

    100 Series owner here. Realize this was over a year ago but don’t over look the power on an early 100 Series. My 98 has center and rear manual locking diffs and conventional suspension. Has more than enough low end torque for most anything. At least to me the 200 series has more awkward proportions than a 100. But I suppose beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

    The reason Land Cruisers hold value so well is because every other SUV in it’s segment would be out of commission by the 150k mile mark. It’s not abnormal to see a Land Cruiser with 500k still running like new.

    Great video. But id disagree with “pretty average all seasons”. Those Michelin’s are top rated. Ive had several sets. They are fantastic in the snow. Would have loved to see you go slower. Mine took me up a snow covered unpaved bluff with 8” of snow... with only 3/32 of tread. Granted, my GC has Qd2 (elsd front and rear) so that definitely helps. Keep up the good work. Your videos are very entertaining and informative.
