they went from a cover band with a few originals, to an arena band playing Madison Square Garden and dozens of other big venues, in less than 7 years.. truly remarkable 🤟🏽
@@fever_spike Thanks for sharing Mick's comment. I always thought Alex Lifeson was influenced by Mick's wah-wah playing. Also that Rush's "By-Tor..." was influenced by Heep's "The Magician's Birthday".
He also said "Rush went out and nailed it and you knew they would be climbing the ladder pretty quickly." Later on the roles would be reversed and UH would be opening for Rush. 😊
My late brother once shared a bottle of Southern Comfort with Janis Joplin before they took to the stage (San Francisco); and he opened for Jimi Hendrix at the L.A. Forum on the first night of Passover (both in 1970). The L.A. Forum, which, if I remember correctly is where Rush played their final show. Mr. Weinrib mentions this in his memoirs: Skekolling or, as it is more commonly called-'shuckling'; the practice of Jews rocking back and forth while they daven (pray). Someone once asked me: "Why do you Jews rock back and forth when they pray?" I said-'because we rock'!
Wow, Southern Comfort...that was my first introduction to the world of alcohol too!! Didn't know what to expect...kind of like Love Potion #9, i didn't know if it was day or night...i started kissing everything in sight!! Then had something to ralph about! Yikes!
Born Gary Lee Weinrib Gee I wonder why he changed his name lol Bearing his soul lol And what a horrible title for a book. He remains my least favorite quality of the Rush sound. I hope you sell a bunch of books Mr. Weinrib Now go ahead and Whin!

I was at that Pgh show in '74...
If you still have that ticket stub, it’s worth something.
Geddy Lee is awesome
so excited for Denver
Southern Comfort: Geddy Lee Edition
,.........yep, I'd buy some.
Would love to know what Geddy and the band thought of Uriah Heep. How the British band treated them.
Mick Box from Uriah Heep said this of that first Rush gig: “My first thought was, ‘God, he can sing high…!’. was my first thought…”

Crap audio, but good interview.

Drunk Rush is better than other bands sober. 🤔

I'm glad he didn't go with the heroin!
hahaahhahhaha
Wow. A story told 100,000 times already.
Wow. A comment that makes no sense.
First time i've heard it in over 40 years!

I hope he/they wised-up immediately and never touched that disgusting drink ever again!
