- This video was made to compare the difference is average size of redclaw in Somerset and Wivenhoe dam. I will run through the types and bait's that work well for myself and include reasons (include sounder screenshots) as to why the pots were placed in different area's. The different types of structure between the dams and what to look out for. Catching Redclaw is good fun and they are great to eat, hope you are able to get out and catch some with these tips.

I really enjoyed this video. Good information nice imagery and well edited 👍
Thanks mate appreciate it 👍
To avoid disappointment, embarrassment, fines and gear confiscation, check regulations on pot marking and float size and marking as well as other requirements to adhere to while fishing for red claw.
Yeah cheers mate, I never knew there was a minimum float size for redclaw and crab pots at that stage. This was filmed about 12 months ago. Thanks for the the feedback and watch, hope you enjoyed.
Nice video mate. Im heading out to Wyaralong next week and you've given me some good tips here! Cheers
Glad to help. I've never fished there but Liam fitzpatrick has a few video's from there as well if you haven't seen them.
Awesome videography. Those Australian Red Claw Freshwater Crayfish are truly indeed spectacular
Freshwater Lobsters!
So much so that they have been transplanted to other tropical parts of the world. Such as Mexico, the Dominican Republic, Jamaica.
Wishing you safe adventures and journeys.
Interesting, i never knew that
@@Lure_Loser
Yes. Your Australian Red Claw is very popular.
Similarly the North American;
Signal Crayfish, and now Louisiana Red Swamp Crayfish has been transplanted into Taiwan, Japan and all over Europe and even into Africa.
@@MrHrKaidoOjamaaVKJV can see why, they taste nice
It might be a good idea to have a look at the freshwater fishing regs next time you post this type of info.
Nice video TLTL. Lots a love, Turner
Cheers mate lol
I've just moved to North lakes area , can U get cherabin around any of the rivers here ? Or at Somerset & Wivenhoe
Hi mate, nah not cherabin. Redclaw are in the area but, any freshwater dam/river is a chance at getting some.
Very informative, thanks mate :)
Cheers mate, glad you like it
Great video,
Have you tried at Barambah at all?
Nah I haven't stopped in before, will oneday but. You had much luck there before?
@@Lure_Loser I haven't tried there yet, but looks promising. We'll probably camp there over Christmas sometime and have a go
Thanks for the video, I'm moving up from Vic to Brisbane. Was wondering about this place. Many cod in there?
There is rumours of some Murray cod getting around in there but none have been stocked that I know off. Pretty sure Mary River cod are stocked in both dams but I've personally never seen one.
Good luck with the move
@@Lure_Loser which dams are stocked with cod? You mentioned "both" cheers
@@rwilko9525 yep both of them. Your Mary River cod are much smaller then murry cod however. And not huge numbers have been stocked. Both dams are good bass and Yellowbelly Fishing but. I have a few video's of both Wivenhoe and Somerset fishing. Might give you a bit of a idea what they are like.
@@Lure_Loser thanks for the info, Best of luck mate.
@@Lure_Loser every time I have tried fishing Wivenhoe I just get a heap of giant catfish
If you thread some lead sheet into the telstra rope it'll stop it floating and risking someone prop chopping it.
Yeah thats a good idea, be better with crab pots so don't float off so much in the current.
Hey mate is that a stessco catcher , what's it go like with the merc , I've got a anglapro keen to chuck a merc 4st on it
Yeah mate, is a catcher. Goes good with 50hp merc, do have a hydrofoil on it but doesn't really need it. WOT gets just over 50km/h, comfortable speed is 45km/h.
Cheap on fuel and last time got it check was 600hrs on it no dramas, just normal servicing.
@@Lure_Loser sweet mate cheers might go see brissy marine next week 👍👍
Mine prob has 700-800hrs now at a guess as was a few years ago when asked to check. I think you can't go wrong with ether a yamaha or merc, just make sure they try match the prop as best as they can.
@@Lure_Loser sweet cheers mate
How do you get to boat on Wivenhoe Dam.. I was lef to beleive there was a TOTAL BOATING BAN on that dam...
Nah, your allowed 4 strokes and injected 2 strokes like etecs on there. It is only 6 knots for the whole dam but
Hey mate do you think pyramid style net will catch em ? Having no luck out here at maroon dam.
Yeah mate couldn't see why it wouldn't work
@@Lure_Loser cheers mate was out somerset dam yesterday aswel still no luck not sure what im doing wrong ill keep trying
They can be hit and miss sometimes, I always leave them in overnight which makes a difference as well. I haven't been and put pots in for maybe a month and a half so not sure what depth they would be in at the moment.
Great video thanks mate!👍
How many acres is this body of water?
Google reckons wivenhoe is 2700 acres and somerset is 10700 acres. Don't think the wivenhoe size is right but, has to be a lot bigger then that, the bottem half of the dam would be twice that size easy.
A good fisherman gets things to themselfs
I'm not a good fisherman but I do like to do my own thing when out on the water. Works out sometimes but other times not so much, is how I learn but.
HI MATE WOULD PUMPKIN WORK FOR BAIT
I've never tried it but think it would 100% work. If you have a go let me know on here, interested in the results. Good luck
Mate have ever sent live ones on freight
No never, always get eaten straight away.
@@Lure_Loser hahahah yes fair enough. You should see how long you can keep one of them giants alive for
They would stay alive for ages I reckon. They do walk over land at times looking for new areas.
We don't have a fish tank big enough for one of the gaints lol.
@@Lure_Loser yes well if you can keep a heap of them horses alive I will buy them off you if you can send them to me
@@jakebryant9723 nah you can get in a lot of trouble for doing that. You might have to go somewhere they live and have a go at catching them. Is good fun.
the old telicom rope haha
I thought it was only electric on that dam?
Nah have been aloud 4 strokes on there for years. Is only 6 knots but
Wow...
Ok its sumerset for quick feed then !
Was there last Weekend and mate fouled hooked a redclaw while we were throwing lures around. Didn't have pots in but I'd say there would be plenty around. Good luck.
That's some pretty expensive Bait lol small black and gold cat food works best. And for the price cant be beaten ...
Yeah not the cheapest thing to use. Catfood does a really good job as well
Just hope that no scumbag pulls those pots before you do
I've never had it happen to me with redclaw pots, i'm sure it does but. Crab pots on the other hand seems to happen every second trip, might setup a trailcam oneday.
Question why the cable ties ?
The pots have rips in them that's all. Cable ties are always handy for a quick fix.
If you're referring to using them to hold the bait in, can put bigger pieces in and get the ties for the right price lol
Why dont ya just carry the fucking trap to ya camera so ya dont have to do 80 trips every trap
