- Legends! I'm chasing BIG FLATHEAD in this video with a good mate of mine Scotty Whitfield . We are on a mission to catch a 1m flathead and this is Part 1 of our search! hope you enjoy the chase with us!

Nice vid, but most flatty fisherman know that in order to land a 3m+ flatty you should be using a halco popper with nothing less than 40lb. Trust me i watch rex hunt and he knows how to catch the dogs.
yeah I'm thinking I need to upgrade the gear to have a chance at the 3m ones. I also heard you can catch them on live QLD grouper as well
Your all wrong the only chance you got to even get a 2.8 is to chuck a whole chook out

Have you tried the rapala ripstop?..
If u get spiked by a flatty, rub the spiked area under neath it’s belly, the slime is an anti venom and stops the bleeding

Jetfisher cheers mate! Some nice ones caught, but not the big girl we wanted! Didn’t keep anything apart from the tailor on that trip. They got lucky 😂😂 . I don’t think the tailor would be a new species, just really clean water maybe? Definitely looked cool!

Cheers mate! thanks for tuning in!, I was using a few different outfits, but the main two were a 1000 sustain spooled with 6lb braid on a 1-4kg Savage gear Salt rod. The other was a 3000 stradic with 11lb braid and a 8ft savage gear salt rod. both a nice and light, I change between them when I'm using different lures
A trick you can use when a flatty spikes you, rub the belly of the flatty on the cut it stops the bleeding.

Mackenzie Soutar hey mate, it’s an estuary in northern NSW. The flathead hold in different areas in each system. They adapt to the area
Mackenzie Soutar go off the drop offs where it’s not too much week and squidgies do you well for flatty👍🏽
When I was 11, I caught a 700mm flathead.

What was the story about the blue marlin?
When was this filmed? I didn’t know there’s still decent sided flatties on the flat in summer I though that dropped off into the deep water
JT 10 filmed a couple of weeks ago mate,
They definitely still sit up on the flats in summer, they are just a little more spread out than during their spawning season. During sept-oct-nov they head deep to spawn 👌

I really target them at all for many years, but I will be targeting them all year round now. I’ve got the flattie bug!

I could see the resemblance, say hello to him for me. We fished together 30-40 years ago, have a photo he took of me somewhere when we went fishing out the front of Bulwer and I caught a big cod. We must have been in our early 20's, time goes quick

Hey Sammy, how's it going mate? I noticed in some of your videos when you are targeting wahoo that you don't use an esky. It looks like an insulated cold bag. The question is what are they called and where you can buy them from? Thanks.
Nicholas Van Krieken hey mate, yeah they are a soft insulated bag. Really handy as you can store them out of the way and still keep you fish cold! BCF do a version of them now, they should be available in most stores, the one I’m using is called a fish chiller bag from blue bottle tackle.
