  • When we think of ourselves, our loved ones, our doctors, and our wallets, we have the vital opportunity to have the challenging but really important conversation about how we wish to pass when the time comes, as it will. In this very accessible short talk, Jim McDermott shares clear and memorable stories and reasons encouraging people to think and act on our own convictions while we can, as early before our final days as today.
Jim McDermott is an M.D., has served as a psychiatrist, and is the US Representative for Washington State’s 7th congressional district, serving since 1989. He is a member of the Democratic Party. The 7th District includes most of Seattle, Vashon Island, Tukwila, Burien, Shoreline, Lake Forest Park, Lynnwood, Mountlake Terrace, Woodway and Edmonds. He serves on the House Ways and Means Committee and belongs to several dozen Congressional caucuses, and co-chairs the Congressional HIV/AIDS Caucus, Congressional Progressive Caucus, and the Congressional Kidney Caucus.
About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

Hospice was not a good experience but kept Dad out of rehab places. He died home with us too like he wanted.
