Was fortunate to have met Gregg after a concert in Rochester, NY June 2016. We talked for about 20 minutes, mostly small stuff. He was very cool and kind! RIP Gregg!
Gregg told in the Dan Rather interview what shape he was in the following day at the awards show. I'll never forget how sad he was telling how ashamed he was of himself after seeing the replay, especially since his mom was there. Made me feel so bad for him but he took matters into his own hands finally and was able to quit everything including cigarettes. Wonderful interview of a man in search of getting his life back on track. Too bad he left us so soon.
His proactive measures ensured that he stuck around for at least another 22 years. I got to see them in 2007, and it was the thrill of a lifetime. I will never forget how amazing that show was. Gregg was on top of his game for that show.
Post Duane, this, imo, was their Best lineup ! I like Derek Trucks, but no one is capable of replacing Dickie Betts ! This version is good but I've seen Way better seeing them live ! The Kinsey Report opened for them in the early 90's and Donald Kinsey came out to jam Southbound them ! Incredible !
I hate to admit it, but his tone was so weak compared to Warren’s. I found this out personally when I switched from a Custom 24 to a Custom Shop 59 LP; night and day.
ABB are in top 2 of the greatest American bands maybe tied for first with CSNY. Gregg looks rough.I don't remember this version of Southbound. Was the studio version a lot different?
Alcohol in this video for sure with Gregg you can see his face is all blown up pretty sure his Heroin addiction was in check at this point. This was the night b4 the HOF induction and Gregg was totally drunk and admitted to that went into long term rehab for alcoholism right after HOF ceremony. Woody now that's another story great Bass player gone way to soon.
Ive been trying to figure out how warren plays that lick at 2:30 ...I cant quite get how he phrases that to get that stutter effect on that blues pentatonic crawl down

Those Southbound leads... Damn. They were just operating at a whole other level during these days.
i realized the other day that when i say "a whole other" out loud i pronounce it "a whole nother". like "another" but with "whole" injected into it.
Damn! I miss this incarnation of the band...look at the stage, they were having so much fun.
Thought I’d seen most of the late show AB performances, but first time I’ve seen this one- great performance!
damn warren haynes and gregg allman set conan on fire?? i never saw that before lol
Wow !! Cohan with a grow up hair style! Shocking😊😂

Smokin! Who can possibly jam like this these days?
I'm reading Gregg's book again right now.

Thank you upload!
Low point for Dickie playing a PRS….
Haha

Wonder how old Dickie is doing, heard he cancelled his tour recently. Just him and Jai left from the OG
Dickey just celebrated his 80th birthday and his son Duane’s band played one hell of a set for him! He’s in good spirits!
RIP DB.

Warren Haynes is the name.

Greg and the bass player heavily addicted to heroin at this point. Hard to watch

Allen Woody was still the best post Berry.
This seems like the geriatric version, LOL!
