I love Lisa! I feel like she's so real and relatable and also so chill. We think everyone has everything all together and figured out to the T but I love how Lisa doesn't act like she does. For example some of the questions she's like idk we haven't really thought about that yet lol.

I’ve never commented before but just wanted to say thanks for creating such positive and interesting content. I try to keep screen time at a minimum but over the past 6 months you guys (and Lisa!) have been helping me get through the sleepless nights with a newborn/infant. Keep up the great work guys, love what you’re doing!

it is also a cultural thing, though. here in Germany it is rather common for kids to walk, bike, or also take public transport to elementary school. or go to the park and playground by themselves. however, i have heard that in the USA authorities would be called if you let your child play in the front yard alone. so, it is even hard to change the helicoptering even if you want?

Anyone else here part of a walkie-talkie childhood? Born in 89 and we always used them when we were kids. We’d have them when we were out in the neighborhood playing and also out and about at bigger locations like camp grounds or a theme park. It was the pinnacle when you were trusted enough to wander off for a few hours of adventure w/cousins or close friends with your walkie-talkie in tow.
I only had a flip phone once I got to HS. my parents pre-loaded 30-60 minutes on it monthly for after school activity check ins.

I was born in 85 so that was just a bit shy of that era, and we were left to wander completely unsupervised 😂 But we are raising our own kids with the walkie talkies now! It’s the best. We live on acreage and so do our distant neighbors, and the kids are all free to roam with the walkie talkies. Gives me peace of mind!

I was born in '95 and grew up mostly in the Midwest in a little bitty town with basically no cell service even if we would have had a cell phone. We were given walkie-talkies, told to stay within range for when Mom called us, told to stay together, and turned loose to ride our bikes all over town. Maybe take a jug of cold water to share when it was hot summertime. It was a great time to be alive ❤

I loved this talk! Such great insight about getting kiddos outside despite your current living location. We do live on acreage now and doing the homesteading thing, but before we moved we lived in very dense suburbia in South Florida. We did the whole 1000 Hours Outside challenge while still living there. It was hard, and hot, but we needed that! It rewired our brains to spend most of our time outside. Then, when we did move to land last year, we were prepared for the amount of time we actually are *forced* to spend outside now, starting and maintaining the homestead 😅 If we didn’t have that “training” period we would have been in shock. All that to say, if you are in an urban or suburban environment, don’t keep saying you will spend more time outside once you move to more land. Start now! 😊

I've had way too many life experiences to allow children to go to a park alone (they don't stand a chance of fighting off a kidnapper)
In the 70s, when I was growing up in Reno, Nevada, a brother, age 12, and sister age 6, went to nearby Idlewild Park without an adult. When they ran out of money at the small amusement park, the older brother made the fateful decision to send his sister home alone to ask for more money. Somewhere on her walk to the house (blocks away), she was kidnapped and murdered. The brother has to live with that for the rest of his life.
When I was about 6, living in that same neighborhood, I woke up late for school one morning during a snowstorm. My Mom was a single parent who left for work at 6:30 a.m., and my older brother never waited for me.
I walked alone in the snow to school. A man pulled up and told me he was a teacher and asked if I wanted a ride. I told him that I didn't recognize him, but he lied and said he was a substitute teacher. I got in. He drove slowly. I looked over and realized he had his pants down. He started saying perverted things to me. I started praying in my heart and was freaked out, knowing this was a bad situation. Miraculously! He pulled up in front of the school, and I got out and fled. When you learn about abductors, they virtually NEVER let you go. God saved me.
Another famous case happened at Lake Tahoe. The girl , Jaycee Duggard, went to a convenience store alone. She was abducted, and her bike was found.
A friend's son was bike riding to sorts practice, I think it was, like we used to do in the 70s. He was hit and killed in a crosswalk.
I know things happen, but this is not safer than the 70s.

Loved this episode! I feel very blessed that we live in a very nice neighborhood in WI where the kids all play outside. We have a cul du sac and everyone has ring doorbells as well. But I remember that same feeling “can I/should I let my kids play outside alone?”.

    • @JuniperLynn789
      @JuniperLynn789 12 дней назад

It’s so freeing once we start letting the kids just go outside and play without the parents all needing to be involved, right? 😊 Like, we have things to do! 😅 I loved when we moved to our rural area, the parents nearby all just let the kids run back and forth through the properties. We just send our kiddos with walkie talkies if they will be far, and we have a dinner bell we ring when it’s time to come inside 😀

I have to say my number one reason for using screens is to keep them safe while I cook or shower or something. My husband's parents were a nurse and a police officer added with my fear of the kids hurting themselves which has happened so don't feel it's an unfounded fear. I'm not sure how as parents we can move past this fear.

I love to hear that y’all don’t get baby sitters for a 10 and 13 year olds! I was left alone at 5/6 very independent raised by a single mom who had to work and I just had to figure things out she would drop in on her breaks cause she worked so close not that people should leave there 5 year olds alone but I mean you just figure it out but I always see post in our community page for parents looking for a sitter for a 10 year old and it just blows my mind 🤯 like why does your 10 year old need to be watched for a couple hours for a quick date night 😅

It's kind of interesting that you haven't really gotten to it about the phones we homeschool as well, but our kids have at least wanted a watch or something like that to be able to talk more freely with their friends.. And my 14-year-old is actually advocating for my 16-year-old to have a phone. But to be fair since he is driving or we've taken them to sports practice or something we have sent what we call the home phone with... Doesn't have access to anything except for calling and texting basically. So they can let Us know they made it safely or are coming back or whatever...

I have heard good things about a gabb phone. We got our daughter an Apple Watch and that has worked well. Some people think they have to be a totally separate account, but hers is linked to my husbands phone. Also, ‘At Home With The Beveres’ did a segment recently on phones for teens. We are all navigating this…Hope this helps! ruclips.net/video/C81MzlK4_aU/видео.htmlsi=drCZQt-w0PRHKBDW
