    I also chat about other options if you would like to speed up the process.

    Very cool. Yep I have 4 smallish tubs and pop the trays in the new “grow size” tub then let them grow. That way I have a group of pin head, smallish crickets, sub adult and subadults or like an in between size. Big ones that aren’t eaten get back to the “lovers lounge” to breed for the first time.

    Hi Shelby, can't believe a year has gone by already. Hope you are doing well. I don't know if you look back at comment on old videos but I have a question. My biggest problem is spiders. Within a day or two of setting up a new clean bin, the spiders start setting up house too. I'm not commercial, but it's hard to keep cleaning them every few days. I now just reach in and squish them with my fingers, but they seem to multiply almost as fast as the crickets. I would probably be more successful raising spiders. If you have any methods to prevent spiders, or dealing with them, please let me know when you have time. I know you're a busy gal. Thanks.

      I also have spider issues! Do you know what breed they appear to be? If they're hunter spiders, those seem to be THE WORST to have. They lay their eggs in the egg crates I've found.
      Squishing them and regular vacuuming helps keep them manageable on my side.

    Any tips to keep mold from building up in incubator bins. Keeping it moist and at warmer temperatures is a perfect recipe for mold growth. Currently I’m
    Just picking out the mold spores each day i check them

    • @BuildingInASmallTown

      Mold isn’t really a problem, they should be able to hatch through it. Condensation is your enemy more than anything. And fungus gnats. I struggled with that really badly last round, but found that a thin layer of sand over the peat moss takes care of it.

    Do you primarily feed the crickets with the commercial feed? I'm wondering if I could feed them a diet of fresh vegetables and only part cricket feed.

    • @BuildingInASmallTown
      @BuildingInASmallTown  6 месяцев назад +1

      The only thing that’s not the regular feed is potatoes for the babies. You can absolutely supplement with fresh veggies, but make sure you have some sort of animal protein in there as well otherwise they will cannibalise.

    I'm just asking if you take the babies out of the incubator, is it daily? because they don't hatch at the same time, and when you move them every day, is it always in a new container? I would like to grow up at the same size per container

    • @BuildingInASmallTown
      @BuildingInASmallTown  5 месяцев назад

      Hi! Yes, they are separated daily. You would probably be ok putting 3 days worth in the same bin, but after that the size difference is too substantial. For the first few weeks, they double in size every 3 days.

      Hi! We use potatoes for the freshly hatched pinheads. I steer clear of fruit. The potatoes work really well for us!

    Is it advisable to spray water onto the eggs which are put in a container to be hatched??

    • @BuildingInASmallTown
      @BuildingInASmallTown  Год назад +3

      Yes! If your substrate looks like it’s too dry, you can do that until you start to see your pinheads emerge. Once they start to hatch, DO NOT SPRAY.
