What I always found interesting about crickets when I lived in Wisconsin was that there were so many of them they were the noise of the night in Summer. I remember shouting "Shut UP!" and they would actually shut up for a half second, then one would chirp, then two, then two thousand all at once. LOL, it always amazed and amused me. It taught me about something in life, it takes only one brave voice to speak out and then thousands will follow.
Am I the only one who loves crickets?! I think they are pretty cute, and I find them fascinating to watch. So many people hate them ...... and I've never understood why. They don't bite, and the males chirping sounds so beautiful and relaxing to me ..... maybe because when you go outside on a warm summers night you can hear them, and it makes me think of camping ..... but for whatever the reason I just love them. I feel really bad when I feed them to my mantis ..... (don't worry I feed her other insects as well .... I know crickets shouldn't be a staple diet item) ......... I don't find them that stinky because I keep their enclose super clean .... and I don't have many die offs ...... I think so many people dislike the smell because their not cleaning their enclosure enough. Anything will begin to smell if it's in an enclosure with excrement everywhere ..... and next to old food you give them!! Just keep them clean with fresh water, and fresh food and maybe more people would learn to love them too :)
Happened to me once, when my cat had the bright idea to tip over the extra large curver box (filled with adult crickets) that was sitting on top of my shelves. Box on the ground, lid fell off of course, hundreds of crickets everywhere. Let me tell ya, trying to "catch" them was a pain in the ass. Of course I wasn't able to get them all, so at night it was as if we were living/sleeping in the bush somewhere in the middle of Africa. LMAO And the cat was satisfied with her superb accomplishment, as you can expect. ^^
Oh my :) thank god you posted this video "how to breed crickets" Instead of wasting all that money for crickets now i just have to breed them:))) my turtle "spike" said "thank you " lol hes so happy
I got attached to a little cricket in class and how he's my science project. This video has helped me a bunch on what to do further and how to demonstrate the mating process and lifestyle of these adorable creatures. Thanks a ton!
My eggs hatched yesterday. I got a lot of baby. They are very cute and aggresive. When they age 1-10 day I feed them with puree quaker oat and some baby milk without water. I spray water every 2 days. Thanks for this video pal
The reason for the two tanks is simple that somethimes I have two different generation of hatchilings and I try to put each of them in a separate tank. So i avoid canibalism and figths of the crickets. The grid over the soil is from a DIY market and prevents that the adult crickets eating the eggs. Thanks for liking my video! :-)

This video is amazing, the life cycle of crickets is very interesting. And, the chirping is one of my favorite characteristics of crickets. I had success raising House Crickets bought from my local pet store, and just using them as food for my Myrmica Incompleta ant colony. Aside from a source of food, crickets are fascinating insects. How do you know if theres eggs in the dirt boxes i put like 3 in the big glass tank and the females went in and pu the egg layer thing into the ground but idk how to see if theres eggs.iv tried carefully moving dirt but i dont know!!!.
Don't ever move the dirt! That's your first mistake. Secondly, wait for two weeks before removing the breeding box into a separate box. Then wait another two weeks. That's when the first pinheads start to hatch.
The black tube was just part of the cage equipment when I bougt it. Basically the crickets hiding inside the tube, wich is nice because that make the feeding easier as i just need to shake the tube to get the crickets for my dragon! :-)
In my cricket keeper this afternoon i found almost 200 little white slithering things and i don't know if they're baby crickets or something or maggots
2 weeks after the momma laid her eggs, do I just bump the whole egg container into another one? Or do I just place it and the babies will hatch and then crawl out?
Hi Jennifer, its hard to say without having a picture. Baby crickets looks like adult cricktes but very small. There could be a couple of white ones as well but also looking like adult cricktes. You can compate the shape with mine in my video.
I just don't understand if you change the dirt after the babies have grown and have 2 mating tanks, or do you have a tank for the crickets you are going to feed to your dragon? I found your video the best so far. Your tank is so clean and I love the idea of the grate over the dirt. Where did that come from?
Just place an egg carton into the tank and place it into some light. The result is that they will hide and climb into the egg carton where you can easily move them from one tank to another one.

Thank you this video helped out alot! i subbed :) i got a bearded dragon a week ago and i was think of breeding crickets instead of buying them everyday. This helped alot
Nice, glad that my video helped you. Just try it and buy couple of crickets it will work out just fine.
The eggs are those tiny crystal looking things on top of the soil.
How long from when they are hatchlings do I wait to put them in with the older crickets?
Is the soil that you have with the new babys, the soil you had in the container with the adults?
Hey i was about to order crickets online and i was wondering do you think 5 week old about 3/4 size will breed or no
What's the black pipe for reason I'm watching is cause my sons have.2 leopard gecko n want to start suiting lime this for food for em thanks
Its to make it easier to grab a few at a time and put them in the cage thats what i use it for atleast lol
The black tube was just part of the cage equipment when I bougt it. Basically the crickets hiding inside the tube, wich is nice because that make the feeding easier as i just need to shake the tube to get the crickets for my dragon! :-)
In my cricket keeper this afternoon i found almost 200 little white slithering things and i don't know if they're baby crickets or something or maggots
where did you get the screen for the top of the dirt?
So is it ok to have sand in with the crickets or not?
Sure i cannot think of any reason why not.
BeardedDragonsInfo Ok, by the way why should there be a fine grid? Is it to keep them from eatting the eggs or bury themselves?
They would eat the eggs.
How much does Cricket cost like the ones u have on the video
Uriel Alvarado A package with around 20 cricktes for less then 2 Euro/USD.
How long do adult crickets live? And can we put breeding box after 2 weeks to another litter just like before without spilling?
I'm planning on buying a praying mantis and will require keeping a small cricket colony to feed it. This video really helped me out, thanks.
Glad that my video was helpful!
Also approximately how many babies if kept correctly will you get from 36 crickets?
How do you prevent the crickets from crawling out, especially when they are babies?
@BeardedDragonsInfo how many crickets should i buy before i breed them?
I am trying to get rid of them//NOT breed..you got a solution for that???
It's a metal grid and i got if from a DIY market.
Just place an egg carton into the tank and place it into some light. The result is that they will hide and climb into the egg carton where you can easily move them from one tank to another one.
That's really neat thanks for sharing! I think I might try and breed crickets once for my turtle just to see how it goes.
