Love your style, enthusiasm, presentation, and genuine concern for the retail customer getting value for money by not wasting it on shop bought OLD worn out adults with no eggs left. That said, you make no mention of smell. Do you not use a general substrate (outside of the feeding and laying trays) such as vermiculite to contain and damp down the odour? or are you content to just put up with any obnoxious odours? Greetings from across the pond in the UK, regards, Jim.
Would you say it's cheaper for us to grow our own crickets to eat (I'm thinking of doing this) or would we just be better off buying them from the store?
It really depends on what your goal is. A lot of people have fruit trees in their back yard that they will eat. An example of this is an orange tree. For cricket farming it is cheaper to grow your own, but it depends on how much free time you have during the day.
If you want to eat hundreds and thousands at a time, then it's cheaper to raise your own. If you're OK with a handful , like 5 or 10 , every couple of days as protein garnish for salads, then buying from store is OK.
Hi, I followed the guides and am growing them as you showed. Despite providing food, water, and protein, I noticed they still tend to eat each other. Have you found a way to prevent this?
I'm trying to get something to keep them at the right temperature range. I've got 2 heat pads but they're not good enough and it's making me violently angry. What can I get to keep them warm? It's around 15°.
@@Schubugs I had vermiculite as the substrate until 2 days ago, now it's just a 80L plastic tub with 2 heat pads, a couple egg crates and food. Would towels do a good job keeping the heat in if they cover the heat pads?
I only want to start with 50 or so. If I buy them from petco, will they breed? I ask because someone told me that all “feeder” crickets sold in petco/petsmart are either all male or all female. Is this true?
@@Schubugs Thanks for replying, got another question, this morning, I've got dead and dying crickets everywhere, they go crazy then flip on their backs and quiver, can u help please.
Does the crickets make those big holes themselves? I thought that just insert the eggs using the long point. Will the screen prevent my crickets from laying eggs?
Температура должна быть для выращивания 29.....33 гр.У меня раньше была температура 26.....29 гр. сверчков было мало и слабые.Теперь температуру поднял до 31 и всё хорошо..Всего вам брат хорошего☺
I notice that you don’t use mosquito screen to cover soil to prevent adult crickets from eating the eggs. Do you folks have any problem with crickets eating eggs?
We don't really worry about the screens. You can do it if you want. But the female love to dig holes so we like the keep our crickets happy and we believe they will lay more eggs.
What temperature should be maintained
Try and aim between 25 and 30
@Schubugs what type of crickets are those? how to you keep them in your their boxes? they look like they can hop right out of there!
I answered this on the other video 😊
How often do you change the hatching ground?
Once every 3 days

Thanks for the message mate! We don't use any vermiculite. We just keep on top of our cleaning!
Also yeah so many people sell old crickets!

7:22 you said that that batch of crickets was 8 months old.
What species are they and how do you keep them alive for that long lol
This is Acheta domesticus. They are in their optimal environment
What do you feed your crickets ? What kind of grains is that ?
Just wheat and barley. Nothing special
Hi, I followed the guides and am growing them as you showed. Despite providing food, water, and protein, I noticed they still tend to eat each other. Have you found a way to prevent this?
Yeah they will still eat each other. These are just things to stop them eating each other more.
Make sure you also have enough space in the bins
how much capital output did you need to start off breeding crickets? how many tubs, how many crickets, how much food?
Spent about 30k, started with 50 crickets, we grain for food 2kg to make 1kg of crickets, we have about 72 tubs now
@@Schubugs is it ok to buy the first batch from petco? Do they sell both sexes?
@@ItsAgooberThang yeah you will get both girls and boys in there
How tall are those breeding boxes? Don’t they jump off it ?
They are about 50cm high. The crickets can jump out but most stay in
Do you remove the egg soil pans after a few days in the adult bin to allow the eggs to hatch in another empty bin?
Yeah so we only leave the pans in there for about 3 days then take them out and let them hatch

heat pads should work fine as long as you have good insulation. try using a different box that can hold the heat in better.

Thanks heaps, really good instructions 🇦🇺
No problem mate! Happy to help!
How do you reuse the coco husk ? Do you just rinse it off and strain it then dry it ? If so how many times can it be reused
We just leave it to dry out before we use it again. Then run hot water through it to kill any bugs. Might use it 4 times before getting new stuff
@@Schubugs 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
How old do they have to be to start breeding. 7 weeks?
Yeah between 7 to 9 weeks. They will start to chrip and make a noise
I only want to start with 50 or so. If I buy them from petco, will they breed?
I ask because someone told me that all “feeder” crickets sold in petco/petsmart are either all male or all female. Is this true?
Nar you will get both female and males from the pet store
Hi, how long can they live for, I heard u say 8 months is that right?
Yeah we have had some crickets live for 8 months!

@@seawench555 how old are they?
@@Schubugs all ages, mostly around 1 month
@@seawench555 ok yeah they shouldn't be doing that.
Make sure they have some fruit or vitamin c source. Then fresh rain water.
How long do you need to keep these propagation containers inside?
3 days
Are they clean animals? I heard they’re not like cockroaches
Yeah they are pretty clean. Compared to other animals
Do you reuse your substrate?
Yeah we do until it gets mold or something wrong with it
Does the crickets make those big holes themselves? I thought that just insert the eggs using the long point. Will the screen prevent my crickets from laying eggs?
We have tried the screens and didn't notice a big difference in pinheads
