Yeah I think there would be more room for them in the egg cartons. However, we find that they still group up together and don't use the space we give them. It's pretty interesting. I'm keen to see how our numbers go over the coming weeks
Interesting. I have noticed that a few farms use wine racks (either cardboard or in one case made out of wood) and I've wondered about the pros and cons. Thanks for explaining the reasons why you're going to wine racks.
Yeah we didn't go with the wood option because of mould. Wood is harder to clean. However, I'm interested I'm trying it. Because I might be able to use second hard wood
Hello my friend. Thank you very much for sharing your videos, they are very entertaining and instructive, I really enjoy watching them, I hope you keep uploading content, it would be great. I follow you from the antipodes, I'm from Spain, here I am starting the procedures for the creation of an 'Acheta Domesticus' cricket farm, we are in a very initial stage, we have just bought the land and the architect is developing the plans for the facilities, we still have a long way to go. Yes, we will use the new type of cardboard that you show, the one designed for transporting bottles, but modified, with much smaller gaps and also with holes in the surfaces, for this purpose we will contact a cardboard company, and we will request a personalized design for our needs. I really like your good vibes when it comes to making the videos, you look like a determined and enterprising person, I wish you all the best my friend, I wish I was there to visit you and learn from your experience. Andrés.
Hey Andres! Hope the new facility goes well. We are also building one. Keen to hear more about it! Yeah we are getting some custom made as well. We are doing 5cm by 5cm holes. Nothing too small but smaller than the ones in the video. Don't worry we have more videos coming!
Hi buddy! I’m following your steps from Costa Rica! Im about to set up a Hoop house to grow my crickets - any suggestion? I’m still thinking how am I going to control the temperature & I thought about incandescent lamps per cricket container (these lamps radiate heat) hope it’s enough. I live in the mountain & here is cold af - I don’t know if a hoop house would be the best idea. Suggestions please
Hey mate! What's a hoop house? Individual lamps and boxes can work. But it's just or hands on work to maintain it all. Having a room with the same temperature is just easy. How's the cricket market in Costa Rica?
Really just depends on what you are breeding them for. We want to move to human consumption. Roaches are great for animal feed because they aren't high maintenance and animals love them. But might not be great for human consumption
It depends on what you do with the crickets before hand. It also depends on temperature and roast time. If you boil them before hand they will take longer because they will have more moisture.
It will be interesting to see when we get some new wine racks with small holes as well!
Glad see your ok love your videos
Appreciate it mate!!! Sorry I took so long hahaha
That’s very interesting, thank you for sharing!
you are welcome! ill keep you updated
Thank you for sharing. The ones you are using may keep them away from each other better. Hence less cannibalism and more survival.

A tip is to buy the cardboard wine racks in bulk from China. Shouldn’t be that expensive compared to egg cartons.
do you have a supplier i can contact?
Hi Great video! what would the standard size of the wine racks please?
We are using 5cm x 5cm and 4 holes by 5
👍
Thanks mate!!!
What do you use as a water dispenser? Im trying to think of etter ideas
Like the water feeders for birds? we have used those in the past

Hi, what's you opinion on breeding dubia roaches instead of crickets?
Really just depends on what you are breeding them for. We want to move to human consumption. Roaches are great for animal feed because they aren't high maintenance and animals love them. But might not be great for human consumption
how to cook cricket flour? How many hours does it take to dry in the oven? how much time?
It depends on what you do with the crickets before hand. It also depends on temperature and roast time. If you boil them before hand they will take longer because they will have more moisture.
