Keiichi Tsuchiya is in Tokyo drift and did most of the stunts in Tokyo drift and played as a fisherman who was just chilling at the dock while watching sean trying to drift in his evo IX .
Yes we know, but he plays a much more important role in Initial D, serving as a heavy inspiration to the series creator, and as an advisor for all the drifting and racing parts Edit: he also literally invented drifting, for anyone who didn’t know.
I'm pretty sure he also made a cameo in first stage (sub version obviously), i think he called Bunta about his son Takumi racing the famous Ryosuke Takahashi. He did appear in the last episode of final stage too! 🤯
In one interview, Tsuchiya said the 86 is one of the worst car hes ever driven. But thats what made him a good driver. The car challenges him at every turn and he honed his skills with it. He goes further saying; if you can "tame" the 86, you can pretty much tame any car.
That actually makes a lot of sense. I have a similar example. I used to play with very cheap mouse and keyboard but I used to be quite good among my peers. Only after I felt i was actually limited by my hardware did I buy a new mouse and keyboard. That simple change tremendously upped my skill since I didn't have to bother about the small but impactful idiosyncrasies of my older hardware. I could take more risk and get rewarded equally.
I learned 5 speed on a Nissan frontier with a 2.5. That first gear was higher than Willy Nelson and Snoop Dog, paired with a clutch as touchy as Bill Clinton. Needless to say when I actually got to drive some other manuals (and especially motorcycles) it was way easier. Plus the synchros were about shot so I learned rev matching. Thing drifted like a champ though
@@dinkarfowkar999 Dope 👌. I know Tsuchiya prefer to drive old cars because new cars are advanced as they should. But true drivers are measure up when they are driving cars less advanced such as the 86.
Okay, for anybody wondering how he goes sliding about corners without using the handbrake. He enters the corners fast, brakes hard and late, which results in the high amount of momentum getting shifted towards the front axle and making the rear lighter, during which he shifts down and starts spinning the rear wheels, since they are already low on traction. And voila, you've got a fast slide around a corner without losing a major amount of speed and getting about the corner much faster than taking it in a slightly more conservative way
@@fujineetomori If you're talking about his AC runs, then I'd have to disagree on that, since the way cars handle IRL is slightly different than what arcade simulators like AC provide. Plus, my aim here was to explain how Tsuchiya-san manages to go about a corner faster than the others, while sliding in an underpowered, stock Corolla
@@slidekb1694 AC is a fully fledged simulator, not an arcade sim and it's realistic enough to simulate different types of traction loss and slip angles without being far fetched from real life. Handbrake drifts itself does not necessarily slow down cornering process, people just overdo it and does the crab like, flashy D1GP drift most of the time but handbrake drift can still be done to initiate four wheel drifting
Jeeeeeeeeeezzzz... Now I know why this man is called Drift King. Watching that Zero-counter weight-shift four-wheel drift toward the first corner tells all the story.
Tsuchiya Keiichi made that part parallel to the Initial D live action, if you watch the film, that happens exactly like that and then, the edition used the same effect 1:44 than the live action.
When it cut to the tofu in the back I laughed out loud but also had a pang of sadness for an era that feels so far away. What an esoteric experience to watch this with so many others that get it.
@@therzn86 you're right keiichi tsuchiya got the idea from drifting by the man him self the father of drifting Kunimitsu Takahashi he was a motorcycle racer until he crashed and went for car racing he died march 2022 sadly
Am I the only one that noticed his emotion while driving this car?? He was almost gonna cry!! As if he was ACTUALLY getting in touch with his past memories!! A truly passionate Driver 🤜🤛
When you hand drift you have a tendency to lose more control and requires more countersteer. Braking like this disrupts your traction but only a little bit, allowing less drift but still enough to slide through a corner, and more accurately and allowing a line to form.
Each time I see him drive an 86, I think no one knows this car better than him, it really feels like it’s an extension of his body, he simply tamed it to do exactly what he wants, I’m always amazed
Braking drift mostly. Entering the turn you brake hard to bleed your speed, after your threshold braking period you enter into the trail braking period. As you let off from threshold into trail braking you turn the car in hard, all the weight is still on the front wheels but you're going to correct speed for the turn. After turning in you straighten the wheel out and use the throttle to rotate the car around the corner. After passing the apex you begin to straighten the wheel and open the throttle wider. The 86 specifically doesnt need much coaxing to slide due to its low weight and therefore low mechanical grip. The lack of ABS can also be used to trigger a slide as you turn in, which can be seen in clips of takumi using his brakes to lock the wheels and trigger a slide.
The first question: They are actually racing. For racing, you don't use the clutch kick or handbrake to go fast. Trailbraking cause the car go sideway during the entry phase. The anime exaggerate the effect by making the car drift heavily. In further episode, Takumi during his conquest for speed, he used less countersteering to improve the cornering speed. Also I suppose brakes wear out during that era(no carbon, disk whatsoever). Going sideway may be a solution to counter this problem. For the second question. I don't recall seeing him race for the whole anime.
@@MrDeapGamingMedia (2nd question) no he didnt race, just practiced his trueno skills, even got a turbo for it but otherwise its never been in a real race, takumi did some cool stuff with it though.
