      Yes pls do that

  • @Mike__B

    Should have mentioned, because of the fast growth you really need to be on top of dosing calcium and alkalinity to the tank.

    1. Birds nest
    2. Branching montipora
    3. Stylophora
    4. Plating monti
    5. Staghorns
    I think you need pocilipora and encrusting montipora in there.

    Good vid! I just wanted to mention that montipora you referred to as a stellata looks a bit more like a hirsuta. I don't want to sound like a know it all or anything, just a fellow reef dork who loves fully identifying everything in my own tank, so I wanted to pass the thought along!

    • @ReefDork
      @ReefDork  4 года назад +1

      It does look a little like it, but it's definitely Stellata. Either way, it's coming out soon...!

    In my opinion you should add Pocillopora damicornis. I had one that grew from a 2” frag to the size of a football in a little over one year.

    Love the videos. Im in middle of doing my deep dive and youre stuff has been super helpfull and interesting. So, im trying to choose a tank while also giving thought to fish and coral types. Ive always owned freshwater tanks but im really excited about trying a reef tank. I have a couple questions. Im thinking about getting the Red Sea Max S 500. Is this way too big for a guy who has only owned 55 gallon freshwater tanks his entire life? Also, im trying really hard not to get bogged down with what seems like endless amount of choices. Between coral and fish types and what goes best together. I wish i could find a place to start. First, how many small frags would you put in a 135 gallon tank? Also, the inches of fish i know depends on size of tank but should that number be figured by the size of the fish when they are fully grown. Im sorry to blow you up with a million questions and i hope im not all over the place. Im trying to figure out an easier place to start where i can build out my knowledge and your videos have been super helpful to that end. Like here is twenty corals and ten fish and this is what you need to concentrate on. I dont feel like im being lazy. Its just so hard not to get lost and thats not even factoring in the kit end. I find myself scrolling for hours looking at all the cool gear. I finally decided the Red Sea tank would take care of that end to a degree.
    Ps i find it amazing how you remember all the names of the different corals. Thanks so much and im always looking forward to your videos.

      I wouldn't say that tank is too big - water changes will need large containers cos of the size, but otherwise it'll be great. Try not to overthink everything - just take it slowly and the minutiae doesn't really matter.

    Hey I have a mainly LPS dominant tank and recently picked up some birdsnests and stylos. Any ideas why my sps corals only open and extend polyps after the lights go out?

    • @ReefDork
      @ReefDork  3 года назад +1

      Polyps often come out most at night with SPS anyway, but that's often a sign that a fish or something is nipping on the polyps so they come out when the fish go to sleep

    Was wondering if anybody could offer me any advice. I have a goby and pistol shrimp pair brought them last year in August. I have seen them nearly every day bar a slight couple of days when the tank crashed. it was 3 weeks after I brought them, Still to this day I dont know why it crashed. I lost about ten fish including clean up crew, but these two survived. Over a week ago a rock fell off the top next to one of there borrow hole they still came out but the pistol shrimp was a bit annoying by it. Day later I did a deep clean were I tackled the algae but didnt touch the rocks only moved some of the sand next to the glass. Didnt see them for a good 5 days which is incredibly unusual as they are out nearly every day. Made a whole in their borrow can see the pistol shrimp but not the goby. Pulled the flat rock next to the borrow opening still nothing. I haven't see him in over a week, I'm worried for the gobys welfare as I'm quite attached to him. He is a watchman goby or a yellow prawn goby. Not sure what the pistol shrimp is but it's a lavender colour. Would the pistol shrimp Edward scissor handed him if they were annoyed or is he just on forlow like most of us.

    • @ReefDork

      Just leave him to it - the chances are he's just in hiding which happens from time to time. Digging around his cave will only stress him out 🙂

      Found him and he is alive. Not happy though, he was sitting in body of my tunze skinner 🤬🤬🤬🤬. I clean that out very often. i dont know how he got in. I'm just glad he is well and reunited with his pistol. She has definitely missed him 😥😥
