There's one problem that I have with all your videos. It's that you are a great photographer, and I truly believe that you can make any camera look great. Even if you had an old disposable film camera, you would be able to convince me that I should go out and get one. Your photos look like what I always wish I took. But I truly appreciate your work and videos. You show that it's not the camera, so much as it is the photographer, just as a great author doesn't write a better novel, just because they use a "better" typewriter.
I just purchased this baby and can’t wait to get my hands on it! I currently have the Sony a6500 and it is a beast! I’m pretty sure I will be more than happy with this.

Great video! I still shoot with mine professionally! This camera is more than powerful enough to achieve any kind of creative ideas that you may have for both photo and video. After all, it's what's behind the camera that matters most! Cheers!!!

Fabulous camera. Focus peaking is great for older manual lenses. Exposure comp is handily placed. Main menu items are accessed via Fn button. Once you set it up, you just change aperture, speed and ISO easily. I use vintage Pentax, Olympus Zuiko and other lenses on my A7. Great carry camera as it is small.

I've since grabbed a 4K camera as well but still shoot video with the A7 fairly often. Still own 0 FE lens too, mostly Sigma Art Lens E mounts and a PILE of old Minolta Maxxum 35mm AF lens from the 1990's aka Sony A mount which are pretty inexpensive. This video inspired me to look the Alpha line, former Canon shooter. I was going to buy an A7, for about $1,000, but found an A7II for $940 with 1,500 clicks. The in body stabilization make me think I chose wisely using vintage lenses. Thanks again for the video.

I bought this camera in Malaysia for equivalent of 800 USD. best deal ever. awesome camera for studio works and landscape and basically anything stationary or slow moving.
Yeah, I'd forgotten how much I liked the lenses I used when I had a Minolta XD-11. They were light and very sharp. I sometimes wish I'd kept that camera. It was the best thing since the Pentax Spotmatic I had before it.
Same here. It’s a great combo. I used it almost exclusively on a music documentary i shot last year. It’s so sharp at f4. lot of the old Minolta lens are just so full of character compared to the stuff of today. Another good combo is the 28mm f2.8 Minolta Celtic. It’s awesome for landscape
i've read a lot of people complaining of auto focus on this camera - have you had any issues? e.g. people are having trouble taking shots of their children moving moving around
Hey Matias . What's better? A7 with 1.9 auto revuenon Japan with M42 adapter I think and plus neike bateryy grip for 650€(maybe 600 if the seller wants to) or a6000 with 16-55 kit lens for 400€ (and then maybe I'll buy 1.8 lens) I'm interested in night photography , landscape, street and portrait. I can't found lot of used things sooo yeahh.(and maybe u can offer something new for around 500€ for Nightscapes landscape portrait and street. It would mean a lot if u answer my questions .Tnx ❤️
Hi Mattias, is the iso performance better than the fujifilm xt2? JPEG from xt2 above 1600 ISO is ugly (especially for skin). Then, what is the best affordable manual lens (23mm full frame -> don't need adapter) for A7? Thanks
Thanks for your awesome video. I just bought this Sony A7 today for a incredibly low price and with in store warrenty. Last SLR was film in 1985. Buying a lens adapter to use my 4 analogue 35 mm lens. Went Pro for a great deal price.
January 2020 I bought the Sony kit 28-70 lens used for only 1 day, and for only $175 no tax and I love it also because it takes very good quality photos and has built in stabilization OSS which really helps because the Sony A7 doesn't have any built in stabilization. Yet I only paid $540 open box return with full warranty for it so it was my no-brainer to switch from a Sony DSC-HX9V super zoom to buying the Sony A7 for $540 dirt cheap for a quality full frame mirrorless. So I just buy used Sony stabilized lenses as I already had my 5 antique manual lens that I bought new in 1981 for my film SLR Contax 139 Quartz they would be $3,000 nowadays.
Ah, you're right. Not sure why I typed MFT in there. Are you aware if similar adapters are available to fit on EF mounts? Or is this something limited to Sony's E mounts?
Great video &Review . Got mines recently on a discounted deal which includes the 50mm FE lens. Currently thinking what lenses to get for this thing but the stock kit lens should be enough for now. Shoots great!
EDIT to my hate post about cheap gear. I searched for 2 weeks. constantly about 10 minutes every night and found a refurbished Sony a7 with 4 original batteries and only 1000 shutter counts from Switzerland now in Germany for just 499€ now I will put a used voigtländer m to sony adapter on it and the 35mm f1.4 sc... nice setup for under 950€
Hi, I'm thinking to buy a Sony A7II (switching form Pentax K50), but I have read a lot of negative opinions about AF and Video quality.. Is in your opinion the A7ii comparable to the a6000 in video mode? Or it is really so bad?
I got my A7 last Christmas, and I traveled with it all the time since then. Although I would like to have IBIS body later, still A7 is definitely a good choice at its price.
Sony a7 is the cheapest and the most underpowered camera of the nine Sony full frame e-mount a7 series cameras (I include the a9). I have the Sony a7. I bought the camera body new in 2015 for 950€ and it was a bargain. The next cheaper full frame digital camera was the Canon 6D at around 1400$. Until 2010 I was using typical zoom compact cameras and I didn't know the difference or the importance of lenses. In 2011 I bought at half price for 250€ the Sony NEX 3 new. Immediately I was amazed by its possibilities and the importance of lenses. I started watching RUclips tutorial videos and began to know the basics of photography. Gradually I understood that most of the best affordable lenses in the market are full frame. Of course there are great APS-C lenses like the Sigma 16-35mm f/1.8 DC HSM Art or excellent medium format Hasselblad lenses but for most serious photographers the only choice is the full frame lenses. Additionally I like manual focus with adapters and nearly all legacy lenses from the film era are full frame. eBay is full of cheap but really good Minolta autofocus a-mount lenses. I have bought the LA-EA4 adapter for 200€ new and I use many old Minolta autofocus a-mount lenses. The autofocus with the LA-EA4 adapter isn't very fast but I am not a sport or wild life photographer. Sony a7 has permitted me to use many professional lenses without spending a lot of money. I have bought some Canon FD lenses too. Sony a7 can be found new in 2018 for 700€ and that is fantastic. The APS-C Sony a6000which is just one year younger is still sold by many shops for 450€.
the photos from this camera almost look like they were shot on 35mm film i think its because at higher iso it still has a very regular grain pattern giving it a clean look
I bought my a7 on b&h after seeing Matias videos. Still waiting for my cousin back from US with it on nexts days. (In my country the 2nd hand has the US price for the new, and the new cost about 2x the US price.. I hate it) Meanwhile I keep watching Matias videos hehe. But was some kind frustrating reading some comments about the cheap price you can get for it instead of $1098 I paid for the body + kit lens 28-70... Anyway, some dollars more or less I am sure I got a great camera for still photography. For video I think gonna be hard to beat my bmpcc... Let's see
I just bought a brand new a7 + 35MM 2.8 package for €900. Sold the lens for €600 so the camera only cost €300 overall. I bought it from a proper store and it comes with Sony warranty but I believe it's a grey market product. I love this camera and how cheap it is. I am able to just carry it with all the time and not worry about breaking it unlike my a7RIIs
I just purchased Sony A7 a few weeks ago and I'm loving it! I've used it with two Canon FD lenses, it feels like using manual lenses makes me more concentrated when taking my pictures. Do you have any vintage telephoto lenses to recommend?
I'm thinking (fuertemente) on jumping to FF, I have a6000 . I would like the a7II but I only have vintage lenses as you can se on my profile picture and the rokkor line kind of the full line ( 28 mm, 35mm, 50 mm the 1.4 and 1.2, 85mm and 135 mm) but not budget to buy right now any Af lens, So my question is, would you go for it on my place? The quality of those lenses would be ok for such a modern sensor? Many thanks and great videos...
Mainly RAW. But half of the time I'm shooting RAW + JPEG for quicker turnaround. I would love to have better picture profiles (or creative styles as they are known in the menu), to have better jpeg's. Editable 'creative styles' would be nice as well. Furthermore, you can match the camera's picture-profiles in Lightroom to the RAW. If they were better I wouldn't have to change so much in post. Love the quality of this camera, but I'm not very fond of Sony's colour science. Does this answer your question, Mattias? I'm sorry if my point didn't come across very well. English is not my native tongue. Also, could I bother you for some advice. Do you think a Fuji would suit my needs better. Do you think I should consider the A7 II or A7 R II or III. The picture profiles are editable .Unless I'm mistaken. I haven't used a Fuji or different Sony camera.
I don't know. I guess Fujis profiles are nicer but I have stopped using them. I make my own in Lightroom. I have set a custom white balance tint in my A7 which gives me nice images straight from the camera. But I still do some adjustments.
got mine for 250 on facebook marketplace xD was so scared to get scammed but all it needed was a sensor cleaning. so happy to have it.😍the only negative thing i can say about this camera is that the ergonomics suck. the button layout is sure nostalgic if you shot 60 year old analog cameras before but that doesn't make the ergonomics "good" in my opinion. i prefer the modern canon/nikon type grips. but this is even today still the best bang for your buck when it comes to full frame fotography on a budget.
Wanted and A7, then a fuji XT20, then i found an A7R for 800euros and 1400 in the shutter count. I bought the Sony A to FE adapter, and i use my 135 Sonnar 1.8. Just Amazing.

Vintage lens, dude.
Looking forward to a future video featuring images with the Kippon and medium format lens on your A7.
What's the name of the focal length app you use?
It is an andriod app available from Google Apps. It is HyperFocal Pro. It's free. and no ads.
Let's see
Roberto Herrera Peres do you have a youtube channel? I want to check the video coming out of black Magic
OhH man.. I would love to own an a7 as my first full frame. Wonderful photos, great content.
Thanks!
Great review. Love the background music.
Hi ! What lens did you use to take those beautiful pictures ? I want to buy the camera but don't know which lens ! Thank you
I just bought a brand new a7 + 35MM 2.8 package for €900. Sold the lens for €600 so the camera only cost €300 overall. I bought it from a proper store and it comes with Sony warranty but I believe it's a grey market product. I love this camera and how cheap it is. I am able to just carry it with all the time and not worry about breaking it unlike my a7RIIs
where? Send me a link bro, I am interested!
Henry Chopra lucky you... just made me feel bad for paying $1100 for the body+kit lens ... On b&h ...
Got mine for $450 including lens and battery. Excited to use it
Wow ! I happen to have the 50mm f1.7 rokkor ... I am curious ... did you do any postprocessing on those shots ?
I just purchased Sony A7 a few weeks ago and I'm loving it! I've used it with two Canon FD lenses, it feels like using manual lenses makes me more concentrated when taking my pictures.
Do you have any vintage telephoto lenses to recommend?
Thank you for the video. My question is which to choose? A6500 or A7?
Ni!
What’ a the app you are using for hyperfocal shots? Thanks.
Wow amazing shot plus the sound
Excellent video. You’ve won a subscriber.
Lenses for the Sony system are just so expensive though. The 55mm f/1.8 ZA is almost 1000 $. This is crazy compared to the Canon 50mm f/1.8.
I still use mine. Very happy with it. The only thing that bugs me is the color profiles. For this reason alone, I've been thinking about updating.
three company You mean for video?
For pictures, I don't like the videoquality. I can't change the premade pictureprofiles in any way.
three company I don't think I understand. Do you shoot raw or jpeg?
Got one today 20.12.2017 ..super excited!!
himanshu agnihotri how's it performing so far ? Im thinking of getting one
got mine for 250 on facebook marketplace xD was so scared to get scammed but all it needed was a sensor cleaning. so happy to have it.😍the only negative thing i can say about this camera is that the ergonomics suck. the button layout is sure nostalgic if you shot 60 year old analog cameras before but that doesn't make the ergonomics "good" in my opinion. i prefer the modern canon/nikon type grips. but this is even today still the best bang for your buck when it comes to full frame fotography on a budget.
I definitely knew this should be Mattias video just looking at thumbnail and title
I've been tempted to buy the original a7 since it's very cheap now, but so far I haven't. Still trying to resist ;-)
have it..very good camera
I had the same feeling, then I got one. No regrets at all.
Shaun Easterbrook how does the video hold up?
Going for Sony A7 or Sony A6000? Tough choice. haha
Wanted and A7, then a fuji XT20, then i found an A7R for 800euros and 1400 in the shutter count. I bought the Sony A to FE adapter, and i use my 135 Sonnar 1.8. Just Amazing.
Matt, how do you reckon A7 with D750 or 5D Mark III? Which one is better for a night-city photography and some occasional night video session?
All three are definitely good enough for all that.
