Great Video man!🔥
I think the best advice I ever received about stereo width is "if everything sounds wide, nothing does".
That's not true though. You will realize this quickly when a few wide mixes in a row are followed by a more mono-narrowed song
@@ModestIntentions I don't think he's talking if the entire track is purely mono or stereo. It's a saying that roughly means "if you make everything super wide, then there is no contrast with elements that are mono and SHOULD be like hi hats on stuff" or even simpler "don't over-do it"
@@mmyz7 I guess I understand it in my own way which automatically ignores horrible decisions :D
basic rule for modern dnb- kick and sub in mono, snare and vocals very narrow, everything else wide.
@@randompianist8359 not true at all either
best info I ever received about stereo width
GREAT explanation man, I have definitely noticed this trend as well and also use it a lot in my music!
One small thing that I think a lot of producers sleep on, but that helps to put this exact example (D&B breaks) into perspective, is to think about drum breaks on the perspective of the drummer. If you think about it, a common drum kit setup in the ears of a drummer, will have the kick and the snare more or less in the center, hi-hat on the left, ride on the right, crash on the left, toms on the left and right, floor tom on the right, etc. (of course that will vary depending on the individual drummer preferences, that's just an example). Closing your eyes and positioning each element in its spot using different pan values will lead to a more natural sounding drum kit that is way easier to mix. I hear a vast majority of electronic music with top sections all in the dead-center that make all elements crash one into another and everything becomes a mess. It's a small thing that many mixing engineers do, but bedroom producers don't, and I think it DEFINITELY helps a lot in getting this wide stereo effect on your track.
Okay, I'm sold, this plugin is nuts. Also the haas effect is soo good! I've seen someone doing this with Waves Doubler. Can't wait to make some wide music with you man!
Great stuff thanks for sharing the info !
great information, thank you 🔥
Nice Maestro!
Stumbled across this video through the algo. Halfway through realize its Modest Intentions. Big ups! Been rinsing your tunes for a minute :)
Awesome! Thank you!
Sooo Haas effect?
Great, thank you! =)

It's also fair to note that a vast majority of venue sound systems, including line array systems are configured in full stereo these days. So the days of crunching your track down to a mono signal just to sound good on a venue's mono system are over.
But of course, it has to go without saying that a brilliant, wide sounding mono mix of your track is still necessary, mostly because that will mean the stereo output of that signal will be incredible by comparison (barring any phase issues.).
I actually did not know that.
@@ModestIntentions So, there is obviously a caveat to that statement, and I don't want to give misinformation to anybody who might read my comment. To put it more concisely, most good venue and festival sound engineers do indeed deploy in stereo. However this doesn't mean that hard panned parts of a track will actually output accurately on the live system. This would cause all sorts of problems with the live sound, and in most cases the panned audio would end up sounding overpronounced to the audience, which isn't a great thing. Instead, most modern venues are physically designed to accommodate stereo width output, and on top of that, most consoles are design with stereo ins, especially for monitoring purposes for the bands or DJs. This is all to say that while full stereo is technically the standard configuration by sound engineers these days, it doesn't mean that the output is 'true' stereo. But, one can infer that the mid to high freq information we all like to pan in small amounts for added stereo width in our tracks can and in many cases will be captured and remain accurate once the signal has made it to the stacks.
Sorry for the brick wall of text, I just didn't want to provide sweeping misinformation. And I'm also sure there are some things that I still need to be corrected on as I'm still learning as well.
@@DiBBs277 Thanks for clarifying. Enjoyed the long read bro. Keep 'em coming. :) Your commentaries are supporting me and helping me to win over the YT algorithm. ;)
I'm doing my part
Sooo basically a HAAS effect with only difference the signal is lower pitch in one channel?
Yep. Probably a simple concept but I've never given it enough thought. It works amazing and most people never use it for dnb percussion
LET"S MAKE THE WORLD STEREO AGAIN
Good afternoon from Toronto..all I know is that my LCDX (21) really work with modern EDM and movie OST 😎

@@ModestIntentions I think your review of the LCDX 21 helped seal the deal

Random question, why do you turn the volume down in the wrench icon area instead of using the main volume button at the top?
It is hard to explain some of my habits. Also it is hard to explain why image line decided to put so many volume knobs all around their software
Where you have that drumkit from?

Oh ok, thanks for clarifying :)
