I definitely need to listen to the full version of this one. What intriguing intellect and perspective this man has! And such a colorful way of speaking.
What a great story teller this guy is, I wasn’t planning on listening to all of this. But this gentleman’s descriptions just grabbed me.
"The way we face the world alters the face we see in that world"
Thank you, Sam and David, looking forward to hearing the rest of this on the Waking Up Application.
Just like to say thank you for years of intriguing conversations. Your steadfast grip on logic and reason has been enlightening.
Sam giving people a subscription that can't afford it, is just awesome!
He’s a trust fund baby living in the Hollywood Hills in a multi-million dollar house. There are many people who bring value and sacrifice. Harris is not one of them.
@@emilyjones5830 well Emily, that's your opinion. I respect your opinion, but I don't share it. And that's ok.
@@S.A.N.503 Giving out a free subscription when you don't have to is a nice thing to do. Period.
@@TheKredden I completely agree 👍
All good Sam, you are one of the best to get a mind in gear and engaged. Thx man.
David’s back!!! 🎉 About 30 seconds into the last one, I was already his biggest fan for life.
Marry me, Lauren.
The guest seems to bring an aesthetic along that he seems personally satisfied with.
Thanks, Sam. It would be great if you could add more details about the content of the podcast in the description.
So good!
You made me recall a train ride from Memphis to New Orleans where the sun came up as we were starting to see the bayous and semi-aquatic scenery and the group of (apparently) college students across from me were engrossed in a magazine's description of the exact scenery that was passing outside the window. Thank you for this conversation, guys. Oh, by the way, I have finally figured out the exact word to describe your intro music - portentous.
You dropped this : "."
I'd just like to give props to Sam Harris for his absolutely fantastic meditation/mindfulness app Waking Up 👏 100% free as well
It's not free. But you can ask to get if for free, no questions asked. I paid, because I can afford it. Not all is so fortunate and I don't mind financing their use of the app. In fact I think it is cool.
Wrong.
@@reinforcedpenisstem Free to those who need or want it free.
@@sumitkommando355 That's right.
@@sumitkommando355 That's not the same as free. It is still a paid service for most.
Fascinating 🤔
Not the content I was waiting for. I'll keep waiting.
Damnit, Sam. I fucked up my last attempt at signing up at your thing with my email.
I am gonna frickin' try again soon, though.
I'll learn about debating from you for the rest of my life man and that's only from what's already out there.... ;-P
thanks, Mr. Sam Harris.
There's a song called five minutes alone by Pantera and I partially agree
That song is about staying alone with the dad of a fan who hated the and and beating him up. I dont think its really relevant :)
My subscription seems to have been cancelled but I guess I'm gonna have to sort that out now
Always find your discussions very stimulating for the old brain box. Thank you Sam.
I did the pilgrimage to Santiago. One of the best things I have ever done.
In a similar vein, a friend used to introduce me by saying, "This is TimeTravelingBunny. He used to work for the Post Office, but quit one day, hiked the Pacific Crest Trail and hasn't been the same since." (Oh, Steve, I miss you.)
Dude love your CONTENT ☺️
Anyone know the name of the piece he was about to read at the end?
Genius
Housekeeping !!!
Is there a way to listen to the full without being on Sam's website?
That's certainly a good way
Can you have an alter ego if there is no ego?
Immaturity in Art berates others for not perceiving Beauty and Wonder

What's his poem on how the banks financed Hitler?

I am still waiting.
Sam you're foregoing people engaging with your ideas because you're not using video.
I'm parroting the same sentence.

This way it's getting meaningful.

The meaning comes from the parroting.

I personally can't deal with this kind of meditation.
It feels like listening to "clap emoji" tweets.
hahahaha
A brilliant episode to refute Sam’s ‘there is no free will’ idea. Loved it. It’s amazing how we can hold a wrong idea (like no free will) and walk blithely past all the evidence to the contrary, as demonstrated in this discussion. David Whyte gets it.
Not sure how this refutes any of Sam's ideas, anybody can explain their life as a series of branching paths but as far as I know nobody has gone back to prove they could travel the road not taken. I did wonder if Sam would comment on that part but I guess that's not how fate would have it.
You don't like the idea of not having free will so you are vainly trying to find evidence against.
Is it me or has this podcast declined? I find none of the guests interesting. It's just boring now. Playing it too safe imo.
@john Doe.thats always a good question-
Is it just me?
I would think it’s Hard to accuse David Whyte of not being “interesting” or certainly, “boring.” Maybe in general we can’t access others inner depths and real thoughts as we are all marinated in our societies insatiable presentation of histrionics and superficial spectacle? That feels like “playing it safer”, than spending time with a man who writes poetry and speaks as concisely and searchingly as David.
OF COURSE you choose to have a HWHYTE person on! >:(((
(jk don't crucify me folks, look at my name if you think I'm being serious)
mkey
It's not much of a meditation on "destiny" if you just redefine it as destiny plus the opposite if destiny. Too many "deepities" for my taste.
Pretty contemptuous of Sam to feel peeved by people preferring to watch tv than look out the window. Quite a symbol of his failure to keep to himself and be at peace, and a shame to hear such a thing from a self professed master of the mind.
If you think Sam is suffering over it or is ruled by that pet peeve you are mistaken.
But .. good luck.
He doesn't claim to be master of the mind. You'd have to be some enlightened god to not let small things piss you off sometimes. I'm sure he doesn't cry himself to sleep over it.
Why can't people just start their podcast? Always all this bs upfront, save it for the description field
Because most people don't read the description, and almost everyone listens to the start of the podcast. Im always interested in the housekeeping.
Just skip it, bro. It's not that hard.
man, the quality of the show has massively decreased
there used to be actual conversation about biology, immigration crisis, current events, philosophy,...
now we have some dude babbling about destiny and intentionally deepen his voice to make it look deep but it's actually stupid, i'm really disappointed with the last few episodes
Stop ending every other sentence with a whispered "yeah".
David is a little too pretentious for me
@@trollop_7 good question, I’ll have to think about it. good question, I’ll have to think about it.
@@michaelo.1320 What was the question? It must have been controversial since it was deleted.
@@trollop_7 you asked me who had thier pretentiousness levels dialed in perfectly
@@michaelo.1320 Oh, yes. I remember. Weird that it was deleted.
$14.99 for your Gervais podcasts? Is it 1998?
Ones worth tens of millions the other hundreds of millions. HUNDREDS of MILLIONS!!!! Here's an idea...get a couple sponsors and charge nothing.
Nope, sponsors are cancer. I don't want the 8 minute adblock in every podcast.
the paywall is a good protection against trolls, but I agree - $15 is a bit much
You must be new here if you don't know Sam's stance about sponsors.
If you think they're overpriced, don't buy them. Simple principle, really.
Sponsorship = Censorship
@@useresu301 5 bucks is ok, given that some material is old.
The comments of wacky and unbalanced Sam Harris? 🤷♂️ Nope...🙄😂🤣
I'm not a big fan of poetry... AND, it's made worse when every line is repeated.

On a positive note, I hadn't heard of the 2 documentaries they mentioned:
BBC4's Brotherhood: The Inner Life of Monks
Into Great Silence
I do wish you hadn't told so many lies about Donald Trump, it really is unbecoming of you Sam.
