I’m getting a lot of comments from people asking about the hamster class pets from the deckathalon so I want to address it here: you guys are so right that those are fantastic pets! However, I choose not to include them because this video is meant for beginner wizards, people who are new to this game and struggling to figure out the mechanics. The hamster pets unfortunately are not available through the kiosk or hatching. You actually have to earn them through the event before you can ever hatch for them. Second, beginner wizards will not have the knowledge or resources needed to do well in the deckathalon events when they are just starting out, so while those pets are awesome, they are not beginner friendly to acquire at all. I would highly recommend the hamster pets to mid level or experienced players, but not new ones. If I ever do a guide on best pets for higher level wizards though, don’t worry, they will definitely be on the list :)
I'm not gonna lie, I'm not new to pets in any way but for some reason your delivery and clean editing in this video kept me watching up until the very last second. The way you spoke made me feel like everything you said was new to me. I can say without a doubt this is a great video for people new to the game or just new to pets. Good work!
I feel so attacked 😭 on “should they go for looks alone?” and you showed a picture of the red panda, I’m currently using a red panda I desperately don’t want to give up bc it’s too cute. Long live Buttercup 😔
For any new wizards watching this months later, for Myth I have to recommend the Mythdactyl early on over the gloomy eye. The Gargantuan item card given by it will absolutely carry you through the game until you get the actual spell itself at level 58. Having a Humungo that has over 500 base damage for only 4 pips is absolutely W I L D. Plus, the gloomy eye is now outclassed by Orthrus, which got reworked to be an AOE. (And an even stronger one when Gargantuan is thrown on.) Enjoy the 925 base damage at level 48 ;)
I have seen many RUclips videos and video game content. Very little have I ever been so drawn to a user's content for their humor and individuality. I enjoy the witty banter and ever helpful information. In summary, subscribe at first view.
If you scroll far enough in the kiosk for searching for specific pets, it can cost as low as 7500 gold. Fingers might get cramped. But you can get the pets for cheep from the kiosk but with low quality genetics. Still get the cards thought so worth it to me. I’ll get better genetic pets later when gold is no problem. Hope this help those looking to get these pets cheep from the kiosk.
The Feathered Tabby is also good for new Balance wizards! It gives Dragonlance, which is +35% blade and +10% pierce for 2 pips, and it can be really helpful for wizards facing balance mobs. But the real prize of this pet is the Cat Nap card, balance's forgotten heal. It costs 2 pips for 525 health and stun to self. You'll need a stun shield, but the spare stun shield can be really helpful for mobs that know stuns in mooshu and beyond. This is a great way to get instant health as the only other healing options are running a life mastery amulet for Satyr, pixie, or a heal over time such as helping hands and availing hands. Cat Nap is arguably the best heal for a balance wizard because: -Helping Hands costs 1 pip more than Cat Nap while healing 10 less. It is also a heal over time spell. And you don't get a spare stun shield for mobs throwing out Storm Lord, Frost Giant, etc. -Availing Hands requires 2 more pips than Cat Nap while only healing 325 more health. This is also a heal over time spell. And you don't get a spare stun shield either. --Life mastery can be incredibly useful, but Balance doesn't need to run it. If balance doesn't run life mastery amulet, these wizards will need to sacrifice some stats in order to have higher outgoing or incoming healing to make Cat Nap and Availing Hands top tier heals. Ultimately, running life mastery amulet costs $20/10,000 crowns and it throws away the option of getting some great amulets and a free balanceblade at mid-levels -Pixie shouldn't be used by any school past level 20. ** side note ** -> Life wizards can pack a Fairy or two for a low cost heal in case of an emergency. Fairy can be quite good if you have high outgoing healing, but getting 60%+ outgoing healing won't happen until levels 80+ minimum. Ultimately, a setup with 100%+ outgoing healing makes Fairy a top tier heal. Currently have a max of 151% outgoing healing, or a more balanced setup of 137% for a outgoing healing and 40% universal defense. Fairy instantly becomes an easy spammable spell for about the same health as a satyr
The pet I used on my Fire wizard up through Azteca was the Nightmare pet. Does require crowns so not beginner friendly, but it gave me meteor and a feint, and I think the 1st gen had a high chance of manifesting maycast unicorn which helps early on.
great video. i would highly recommend the mythdactyl and lifedactyl solely based off the gargantuan card as it allows you to one shot most enemies in the early game.
Great video for new wizards that are confused. As you continue making videos, you could consider linking people to the pet videos posted by a guy named wenius on RUclips. They offer a detailed approach to the talents and other mechanics that people will need to know about if they decide to go deeper than just the body. The more people know about pets, the better, so thanks for putting in the time to make this.
One of the most helpful videos I’ve seen for wizard101. Literally your thought process for deciding which pets to talk about applies to what I’ve been looking for. Thank you!
Super job on the video, Zaepha. Every part of the video was excellent. Now that level 100 pets are far more possible now that the kiosk offers pets, it is more common to have pets that "may cast" spells. They really become a added ally without taking up a wizard slot during battle. I breed my pets to have 3 may cast spells. The spells are enfeeble and shatter plus a healing spell.
Thank you! If I ever do a pet talent video I’ll definitely be covering May casts. I agree they can really useful depending on the situation. They might become even more prominent now with the recent damage, critical, and resist caps. I’m interested to see what new pets people make after the update.
im a little bit of an older player but only based off i played a long time ago. however i never got the hang of pets.... or made it past marlybone. so this helps thank you!
I love at 10:20 how you added the meme for summoning being worthless when w101, bless this amazing game, is essentially a summoners game and not so much a wizarding game. Gotta appreciate the irony that the devs left us.
Which pets are your favorite and which ones do you personally find the most useful? As always, let me know any ideas you have for future videos! I keep a running list of video topics.
I played myth before orthrus became an aoe, and we lacked a useful aoe for so long. The wandering eye pet helped so much questing throughout the lower levels and it will forever be my most favourite pet.
Favorite: Mulberry Hound, gives a tempest card at baby (100% accuracy 85 damage temp), although you have to hatch with someone who has it, since they were given to winners of the 2012 pet a palooza iirc
two of my favorite pets for low levels are the mulberry hound which gives 100% accuracy tempest so you can get an aoe right away that's as powerful as you need it to be as well as the timber cyclops which gives the treant polymorph card that gives you multiple heals, critical, more health and massive life resistance which makes tanking high level battles you're too weak to be in a snap. I think even if you included crown pets in this list those would be the only ones that are better than what you already picked
I made a Mulberry Hound for my early wizards. The 100% accurate Tempest was amazing. I even added the Storm Blade Card talent so that I could easily buff the Tempest.
I would recommend that thaumaturge players who are early in the game train elemental blade as soon as they can. This is as an option to item item card ice blades.
You have that early school video voice😭😭it’s not bad just nostalgic to the old videos I had to watch in elementary to learn and do work idk how to explain it
This video was so incredibly helpful. My Storm Wiz was lucky enough to get a Frankenbunny drop, the maycast healing is amazing. My Fire wizard is stacking blades with the Fennec Fox pet on top of enchanted Meteor strikes. My Ice wizard gets a lot of help from the Frosty Eye pet's Blade and Blizzard cards. Onto my Myth Wiz, The Mythdactyl's Blade, 100% Earthquake, and Gargantuan cards are all extremely awesome. For Death however I got the Grim Squeaker pet as I really wanted that Deer Knight AOE card. And for Life, the Kookaburra pet's blade and Leafstorm card is fantastic. As for balance I don't have a balance cuz u can only have 6 characters. But if I do get a Balance wiz I'll be sure to get that Gryphon pet with the learnean hydra AOE card.
I understand you're only including kiosk pets, because this is a video for new players, but in a follow-up video the balance class pet should be mentioned, as it's probably the best pet for general questing new characters.
Please make a video on how to get Pain Giver and Pain Bringer jewels, Its such a struggle to get them and I need some good advice from a smart youtuber like you :).
Oh man, that’s a tough one! I think unfortunately the drop rates for those jewels from bosses are just crazy low no matter what you do. Your best bet is almost to re hatch your pet until you get those talents in the pool, rather than slotting them as jewels since it might be faster than farming the jewels as drops. If I think of another solution or trick I’ll definitely make a video though!
I know this doesn't meet your criteria of in the kiosk but a small mention of hamsters would've been nice. School blade and sharpen. Hands down best pet for every school when hitting imo
The deckathalon hamsters are definitely useful pets! However, because they can't be hatched for in the kiosk and you need to do the deckathalon events to acquire them, I would classify them as a mid to late game pet. They aren't exactly beginner friendly. I would definitely include them if I did a future video on useful higher level pets though!
I personally would disagree on settling for clamoring ghulture over rain core. Ghulture's windstorm is pretty situationally good, but pierce bubble would be too pip costly for new wizards to risk that investment over simply doing multiple tempests some times, and by the time you can afford it, you can get it right out of khrysalis spell trainer or tc. Rain core's damage bubble is a 35% - a reasonable 2-pip investment for actually a stronger-than-normal storm damage bubble, on top of a pip-scaling heavy dot spell that will remain a strategic tool for new, max, and everything inbetween storm wizards should they want to rely on a dot stack strat without having to invest a rare storm hound tc (which would also deal less dot damage).
That choice was a really close one between Rain Core and Clamoring Ghulture for me. Having tried both pets out when my storm was a lower level, I found myself using the ghulture's windstorm spell a lot more often than the rain core's thunderstorm or darkwind, but they are both honestly really solid choices. I do agree that astraphobia is more costly and less worth it at lower levels. My hopes in giving people a lot of options to consider is that people can pick and choose based off their personal preference and individual needs. A lot of these pets are totally viable choices depending on your build.
Who the heck uses bubbles in pve or the dot spell. There are a plethora of storm hitting spells that would be better over that dot. Both of these would be very situational. after ds they are constantly doing bubble changing spells so its not worth it to do a “bubble fight” with a boss you are fighting when you could be using better buffs. But if you are talking about pvp then idk.
On my death I got a Penumbra Drake pet and I love him so much he comes in clutch all the time and really boost my wizards strength he’s my go to pet for every situation
To add to the blading galore, the Enchanted Armament pet is arguably much better than pets offering the blades of the school they represent because it not only stacks with normal sharpens (and sharpens from different sources, such as amulet sharpens, but only becomes more relevant in Azteca+), but, most importantly, it also makes them stronger than the school pets' variants. And because sharpen is a 0-pip spell, for the scope of pips needed to reach a specific AoE spell's cost, it may completely eliminate the need to Elemental/Spirit blade, which sets you back a round because of their 1-pip cost. This definitely helps the early game where every pip counts!
Harpy is easily my fav. Balance pet. Spectral blast, along with the attack all chimera its great for solo adventuring to help get past the resist of any balance mobs you may face. askill that yourpet can get thru hatching that is good for low level wizards (best for non balance though) is Cloud o Bugs, the may cast Locust swarm
Burning dryad has been my pet of choice for my max fire for awhile now with her 3 heath cards unicorn may cast sprite queen may cast and smoke screen may cast really helps for long haul solo runs if no one is available
My favorite pet that I’m still using in Celestina is my red panda, smelly moose, gives balance spear, (really helpful for balance bosses) and gives bonus accuracy and crit chance. At level 45 I was getting tons of crits.
Just got back into the game after what 8-9 years? First thing I notice is that the game is still alive and not dead that made me really happy but sad to see there still a paywall for content
I would LOVE if you could recreate this video for 2023! I'm curious if most of this is still the same, I know I still use this video even if it's 2 years old.
Can you give a gold guide for beginners? I'm level 31 death now and god it's so annoying when everyone's telling you to do this and that early game but you just don't have the gold.
Hands down best pet for most schools who get an early blade is Enchanted Armament, also for mid game and high level too. I know you showed it as universal but I think it should have been mentioned in nearly every schools choice. Newer wizards probably won't realize it's usefulness and go for one of the school only pets. It certainly took a couple of years from release before the wider wiz community saw the benefits of Enchanted Armaments for all schools. Now common place but I was an early adopter for all my wiz. BTW I still think your video is very good and useful to the community.
It's in the universal section, because as you said, it's useful for every single school. Putting it 7 times for every individual school, then also in the universal section would have been pretty redundant I think lol. It is a very nice well rounded pet though.
@@Zaepha I do get why you did it but many players, even players who have played for many, many years. I still see people thinking in black and white, is a pet for X school. Just a thought maybe put the universal pets at the start if you make future pet videos. Not all players get it like we do.
Late on this video but as someone who just recently got back into the game again as my main wizard (Myth 4 life) it kinda interested me to see what I should have gone for
I definitely appreciate the Balance segment, though I have a (possibly weird) question... I have a fire whose gimmick is I'm going all out on healing, but he doesn't directly learn any life spells (just fire and death). I currently have an imp that gives me Sacrifice, and my original intention was to breed it to get as many healing may casts as possible (since I don't really care about its current stats, just its card and appearance). Is there a better pet I should start as my base? I'm going for a life wizard look, so ideally a pet that looks like life but actually isn't, but gives me something that I'm not already going to eventually get with fire and trainable death
Especially for early-game players, what do you think about pets that may-cast the respective bubble? In my case when I started my fire I got a raging bull with Fire Dealer, Fire Giver, may cast Wyldfire and may cast furnace, with the incindious gem on it and 10 resistance. With that pet I literally melted through till Avalon

On my death I got a Penumbra Drake pet and I love him so much he comes in clutch all the time and really boost my wizards strength he’s my go to pet for every situation
When you passed through balance without the enchanted armaments pet I was like whattt until I realized it was a beginner list lol
Can we talk about that death note meme at the end of the death section?😂
Everyone knows the real MVP and Legend for Myth school for a pet is and always will be Maple Moose

Thx for making awesome videos
This is wonderful. Thank you. ❤
Nah. The Death School meme with Death Note was too good 😂. And crafting the deer knight spell was so hard and loooong but worth it 😏
Just found your channel dropped a sub, keep up to good work.
A person of culture used Star Wars and Marvel lol!! Great video!!
“Ice has enough tank, I’m going to focus on damage pets” THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS TOO MUCH TANK
I'm weak the storm fizzle be crazy 😅 it happens at the most inconvenient time too 😅
Burning dryad has been my pet of choice for my max fire for awhile now with her 3 heath cards unicorn may cast sprite queen may cast and smoke screen may cast really helps for long haul solo runs if no one is available
For Myth I'm gonna have to say the Mythdactyl is much better than the wondering eye pet mainly because of the Gargantuan item card
Thank you! this video helped so much 👍
i just started this game again so im relearning the newer stuff like pets and their abilities.
I haven’t played in yearsss. I’ll have a new laptop this week and probably start over in death, this helped 😅
Can you give a gold guide for beginners? I'm level 31 death now and god it's so annoying when everyone's telling you to do this and that early game but you just don't have the gold.
Yeah! That sounds like a great idea for a future video. I’ll definitely add it to the list.
Love all of your videos thank you so much :D. Is this guide still true today though?
No
Late on this video but as someone who just recently got back into the game again as my main wizard (Myth 4 life) it kinda interested me to see what I should have gone for
Just discovered you love these vids
OMG this helped so much TY
I prefer ice wartle for my thaumaturge, elemental blade is just better outright in a group setting.
I think I’m gonna get avenging fossil ty for the help
the little sirens pet actually has a drop location in Avalon under the water, dont remember which enemy it drops off of tho
Personally when questing anything that has may cast [insert healing spell(s) here] is useful ...
Side Note my 1st Wizard101 pet Was the Friendly Dragon (my dad also has this pet aswell)... the child is known as the Budy Dragon
I just got back into wizard101 after 10 years and these videos are super helpful thank you
Could we pls get an update? 👀
