- What a difference a day makes! I painted this black door in 75° weather and now I'm bundled up and freezing in the wind and a balmy 46°.

Question for you: If you could paint your front door any color (like if your husband's opinion didn't matter 3), what would you paint it? I love bright colors & would totally do bright pink! (Even though my house is mostly neutrals.🤷🏻♀️)

Kilz, but any quality primer should be fine.
Was the side of the door near the hinges already white ?
Yes, that small section was left white when the door was originally painted red.

Your door looks great, I went from red to black too. We hired a painter to paint our door as they were doing some interior painting for us as well. Both turned out awful. The black door is chipping already, less than a year. I’m going to do it myself this time. What finish is your black paint?

The primer says, "No need to sand." They mean "no need to sand before the application of the paint, "not before" the application of the primer, lmao, ugh... 😢... nube... 😂😅😂
How did drying go? Did you leave it open for a time?
Yes for a time. I just made sure to start this project early in the morning.

The exterior paint I used will work for either, but mine was aluminum.

I used an exterior paint by Benjamin Moore. For the primer any quality primer should be fine.
No, don't use drop cloths. Just paint the floor the same color. 😂
What type of primer? We bought a house with a hot pink front door that needs to be changed. Any paint brand you suggest?

No I don't thin it unless I'm using a paint sprayer.

No , with enamel paint there's no need to.
Can you share what primer you used?
Sure!! I use the Rust-Oleum Advanced Synthetic Shellac Watercolor Primer. It's great, but does have a strong smell. Just a warning.

I used Behr's Exterior paint.
Semi gloss or high gloss paint ?
Honestly thats up to you. Just make sure to use a high-quality exterior paint specifically formulated for use on doors and trim for long-lasting durability and weather resistance.
