Doc is retired at 93, Maynard and Derick have left us. What we have here is a musician that can carry on the tradition of great trumpeters, with very good musician backups. Thank you.
Loved Doc, he just kept on going, still awesome, used to like Maynard but got tired of all the screaming. you are correct, some good guys here learning the trade,
I just noticed he's playing with the University of North Texas Jazz Band. My younger daughter went to school there and one time I was up and had the fortune of watching one of their jazz bands playing in their rec center. It was an absolutely AMAZING group. Even better it was almost 2 hours of music and all free!
40 years ago when I lived in Dallas, NTSU One O'Clock Lab Band members would come down now and then to play (for free I think). Many of their alumni played in the Dallas Jazz Orchestra. Bill Tillman (RIP) played with DJO as well.
Super original arrangement excellently played. Loved the soulful little trombone break near the beginning and the impromptu funky flutes taking fours. Thank you
Well... Wayne did spend a number of years playing with Maynard's bands and learning a lot from him, as well as Arturo Sandoval... He carries on the torch of being one of the best players in the upper registers very well, and is one of the most prolific session trumpet players in the last 30 years... Dude has massive chops and a STACKED resume.
Kind of lose me halfway in the song but get me back at the end. Amazing and talented musicians. Brings me back to my Junior High and High School days listening to Maynard. I played back then and even traveled in a band a bit. But I quit because I could never even got close to what Maynard and his guys were doing. I greatly regret being a quitter as now I am getting old and want to pass on the love of rock-jazz screaming trumpet and blasting trombone music to my grandsons. I will definitely give it a shot. Gonna dust off the old Martin and see if I can get a little something back. Maybe Wayne’s version of O’ Holy Night by Christmas? A couple of octaves lower of course… 😉
i used to idolize Maynard & Wayne in my band days and as most trumpet players were, i was obsessed with improving my upper register to get to the level of Maynard and Wayne, but of course to no avail. Now that I left band and I look back on these videos of Wayne performing, it too makes me wanna bring back my trumpet to play once again.
Dave , you basically have almost exactly same story I could have told of way back and when..I am also a critical listener of all great trumpet players ...but on this one I'd say Waynard slightly disappointed me just a little bit. Upper register sounded weak and thin as if he was choking due to a shallow cup mouth piece.
That wrinkle was straight off Maynard Ferguson’s MF Horn 4-5, Live at Jimmy’s. I suspect that’s first time he played it, and Wayne obviously knew the reference. Wayne is awesome, but Maynard had such fluidity in the screamer range.
Fantastic performance of Mac Arthur Park, great performance by this orchestra and trumpeter Bergstrom. With all due respect however try to get the spelling of Mac Arthur Park correct, the way I spelled it here. By the way, the trombonist's solo was excellent also.
Agree, the flute solo is superb. A great jazz flute rendition by this fellow, reminds me of the fine flute performances of Herbie Mann, an all time great flautist.
Nice performance. Sounded like Wayne was pinching off on the upper register. Chops might have been a little tired. Trombone solo was great. Love live M.F.
I agree. I've listened to a ton of Bergeron's stuff and he's sounded a lot better than he did here. Not that he sounded bad, by any means, but he's absolutely phenomenal when he's "on". This sounded like he was a bit "off"....although his "off" is better than 99.9% of trumpet players out there.
@@bonniegrandstaff398 yeah crazy man Stan was good. I think he tried to go solo didn't he? I never heard much of his solo career so I guess it didn't add up too much.
@@raypierce6990 well sure, no doubt. I said he's a very good player. No question. I suppose I'm partial to Patrick Hessian because I have heard him live with Maynard's band. I never got to hear Wayne with Maynard's band.
@@BillSmith-rx9rm I understand your loyalty to Patrick, but you seem to want to "dis" Stan Mark for some reason. Check out Stan's wikipedia page for more on his "solo" career after Maynard. You seem to think that Stan's solo career "didn't add up to much", but it seems pretty successful to me. And I checked out Patrick Hessian who credits Stan with giving Patrick private lessons and a referral to Maynard that resulted in Patrick getting his gig with Maynard!
Quiet down the drummer. He needs some experience and variety. It only takes a few years of listening to get a feel for different styles and the musicality of playing in a community.
Oh my gosh, I spelled the trumpeter's name is BERGERON!!! I can no longer tolerate this lousy name and word tricks. I will be losing this phone carrier very soon!

Wayne is a great player and clean etc but there is no soul in his playing... kind of like listening to a clean computer voice etc. Maynard was dirty, not perfect and as he got older it was worse but he had so much fosre and style. Watching Wayne is like watching paint dry... he is an amazing player... just not someone you want leading a band. Great sideman for sure.

I love the look Wayne gives the guitar player for the "wha aaaah."

Now that guy can play the trumpet.
Big Wayne. Big performance. Fantastic sound
Wonderful, Mr. Bergeron!

Sounds very similar to the Maynard version. Doc's version was playing from first note to last note.
7 c vs 17c those of you that know will know. I love it regardless- talent!!!!!
Tontechniker out of service?...sooo tolle Musik...so geil gespielt
Liked it.. Brings back many memories from when I played at U of Miami
Terrific group. Strong work everybody
Only thing missing (besides Maynard) is Bruce Johnston
just marvelous musicianship by everyone.
is that Denis DiBlasio on flute?? he's so good
Yes I think it Denis DiBlasio.
Ridiculous how good the flute players are 😂
Falhou na subida... 😂😂😂😅😅
One of my favorite song music, check it with Donna Summers my Queen of Disco.
When i was 12 i was in a Drum Corp, i only was able to get a Sol highest note, i do respect all
that can go up there, it's not an easy thing to do
.
But why does everyone want to, it's a seering barely musical sound, more a virility symbol than anything else?
It’s good to see Tom’s brother doing well! 😂

Maybe one solo at a time? Tenor Sax and drums - drowned out the Tenor Sax. BTW... Nice job Wayne!
Check out Derek Watkins playing this, he is pure and true class

My favorite version of MacArthur Park. See the video of Derek Watkins wearing his pink suit.

Bad night at the office, but he covered it up well.
While you're talking about trumpet players don't forget Eric Miyashiro!!!!
Who is the frac monster on stage right trombone? If you frac the note wiggling you're slide later doesn't fix it.

I wonder if Wayne ever marched in a DCI corps in his early years?
1971 Lynwood Diplomats Drum & Bugle Corps
Ron DiBlasio Burgundy. He dabbles...
Some debate on here as to the ensemble backing up Wayne-o. Sax fronts say UNT, but who knows for sure? No really, who knows for sure??
McCartur? Sounds more like MacArthur..... ;-)
why did the drummer screw up the tenor solo for.?????

The same reason they congratulated the trombone player for that ridiculous solo. :p

Drums TOO LOUD! Who’s recording this???
Bruh the drummer just too loud always
Desafinado
Много ошибок , солист также в первой части напортачил,.

Lynn Nicholson. Just saying.

It's a shame the tenor solo was ruined by hi-hat percussion madness and too many notes with intonation issues.
Who tf plays a china cymbal beat over a saxophone like I get it’s supposed to be rock but I think that went a bit too far
Doc Severense é bem melhor
