  • We are changing the Searay 240 form v8 gas to 4cyl Mercruiser Cummins Diesel 1.7l for the low fuel consumption and safety on the waters here in the Philippines. I want to run the power plant and find any repairs it could possibly need before installing it.

I have been a mechanic for years. And thought the same thing when you said that the starter failure was a blessing and for the same reason. And was going to mention that having some sort of small trolling type of motor is a great idea for limping home if needed. Great minds think alike and think ahead. Have a great day bro!

That was a good time to find out that the starter was toast. I noticed that you do have plenty of Lube aka Motion Lotion. 😁

This engine is actually based on the Opel Y17DT engine. They are very easy to crack if they are in good condition.

Seems like you need a good multimeter there brother. It would definitely speed things along as far as wiring goes. Last time we were there my father in law ask me to do some electrical repairs and I couldn’t because I needed my multimeter. I felt bad about it but I’ve been shocked enough that I don’t mess with electricity without a good tool to tell me which wire is live and when. Makes life easier 👍👍👍

I do the same with Amazon and buying online...
Shipping addresses in Dubai and Mn...Florida is also an option if needed, or Germany...
When I get back there, I'll add another PH address lol!
Good luck with the starter motor delivery, sounds like it's well underway, almost there...
It would be nice if at some point you could find a second engine to use as parts...
I like to have Plan B/C as much as possible...It's saved my behind more than once over the decades...
Not sure how common such engines are to be found, maybe like looking for hen's teeth?
Anyway...It's almost there with running too...it was close to kicking in...It'll be sweet to hear it take off...Should be more than enough power for the boat...
In Minnesota with Winter weather it can be a real bear getting your gear operational, to include the engine, diesel or gas...
Guess that's why I'm not up there much, I'm kinda the same in my old (soon not yet!) age...
I need the heat (and ocean, palm trees, sun, etc.)! The PH is just the place to get all that and more!
    👍😆👍

James, a small can of ether would help with initial start, with using it sparingly. Glad you found a starter for that engine. Best of luck with getting it running. 😊. You actually didn’t fail, and it nearly started, so I call it just a delay.☃️🎅🎄🎅

You probably find a starter shop in Iloilo that will rewind the motor & put new brushes in it for less money or get it rebuilt & keep it as a spare, I know you like spares. LOL. It probably has a safety feature built in that won't let it start if it does't sense oil pressure and/or check your fuel rail, it might be stuck. Just sayin

    • @TexasFilipino
      @TexasFilipino  Год назад

Well I have been here for years and went thru all of that rebuild in Iloilo stuff and every single time they failed shortly or lacked power. No body has time for that. I want quality not cheap out.

@@TexasFilipino Diesel cheaper than gas in the Philippines? If the engine was bad, I could understand the extra hard work to change out the engine. Run it until it doesn't run anymore, then make that change. I guess with that 3 cylinder Diesel you won't be going anywhere fast if you wanted to. You can still go slow with the gasoline engine. No more than you will be using that boat. Maybe me being 59 years old I think if it ain't broke, run it. Not trying to upset you at all, just don't see the reason why at this point.

    • @johnhale9892

James, I wasn't trying to bust your chops, upset you at all. I'm just a dumb ole boy that believes in if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Like you said you ain't going for speed, but you don't have to run what you have in the boat wide open if that's the case. Again I am just a dumb ole man who doesn't know nothing about nothing.

Hello my friend I hope yourself & Capps are well. Question === Hey I'm not a big fan of starting fluids but in cases like this with a lot of bleeding needed or old worn diesel engines . we used them alot on old tractors
& such we used the ones with upper cylinder Lubricant in it did you not have any ?? I heard Capps say use a gased rag . I figure you have a reason for not using especially with your farm / country boy experience lmao 😂. Just wondering? They really help with firing a stubborn one off . I'm with you on being glad you replaced that old starter they don't have but so many cranks in them & being broke down at sea is no joke or fun .
Po I really liked those battery connectors you picked up from Lazada I've not seen them I want a few of them also that's really a cool design & I like the material they are made out of James. GOD BLESS YALL Po .

Hold my hand and lets sing! Meanwhile everything you buy at the store is shipped via massive ships using diesel. In fact more in one hour than that boat would probably burn in its lifetime. Then deliver to where you live by trains burning diesel and by trucks burning diesel. Then the refrigerator and lights in the store and most likely in your house also derived from fossil fuels also. Well if you flew here for vacation oops again your on a plane burning kerosene/ diesel. I don't care if you like what I have to say or not. I detest stupidity.

Yes it has been become very hard to vlog these days with so many know it all and crass people. It is taking the enjoyment of the comment section away from me that in turns takes the enjoyment of the vlog away from me. No this engine does no0t have glow plugs. It simply needs the injector and injectors primes but the starter pooped out right off the bat. I noticed it was slow from the start. I guess I should become a fake vlogger and get it all running perfect before I video and then start it and say oh look it started perfect. LOL This is what I get for keeping it real. Thank you Chris for commenting and hope we have that cup of coffee.
