Nice clean boat! 😃 I'm getting a 2002 Wellcraft Excalibur 26 496 Mag HO w/Bravo 1. I'm trying to learn as much as I can, so I found your video. Boat's not even home yet & I'm already shopping for a new Bravo 3. I really like the 3, based on my research.🤔

the resason u fill from the bottom is to push out air pockets in the drive thru the top. Ask me - I toasted one last month trying from the top. Do it RIGHT!

Just interesting to me that they haven't found a way to let it bleed properly with a top fill in all these years.
I bottom filled with good results, but just so strange

@@OvalboreCars I agree. There could have been a filler/filling hose from the top, going to the bottom, thus filling up from the bottom by poring it in from the top somewhere.

The reason you use OEM gear oil, it has anti foaming properties. If you get water in the lower unit, it will still hang in there longer.

you're always safe with the OE drive oil, but every modern gear lube has this. cavitation and aeration are bad properties for any gear train, so they figured out how to make it much more stable

I drained my drive for over an hour, took 2.5 qts of Merc 90 Gear Oil.

did you have the upper vent and reservoir caps out? 2.5 hours seems a little long even for one of these stern drives

No, drained for over an hr took 2.5 quarts oil new oil on refill.

That fill bottle is for power trim

great video dont understand why you have to fill from bottom

Daniel Matzendacher you fill from the bottom so you don't get any air bubbles. All lower units fill from the bottom

Is that a centrifugal supercharger on that thing? If so, that supercharged big block must fly!

      it is indeed! Procharger M1-SC
its powerful, but it really isn't that fast. haha

Did you have to upgrade the bravo 3 when you put on the Procharger? I have a similar setup and looking to add a Procharger.

Red Line is THE Best. That's why it's pricy. Ask me why lol

Also this drive has cone clutches so the merc oil is the best

same modifier package in a smaller quantity. the only additive that the mercruiser oil has in a higher concentration is phosphorous and its not even close to an issue for the fluid service life of this stuff. In fact, the redline additive package is, on paper, better for clutch and gear profile life.

I wouldn’t suggest using anything but oem fluids for the bravo drives. They are specifically made with friction modifiers for specific applications. You will ruin your bravo drive.

    • @OvalboreCars

been working great for years. that's fine if you don't want to run other fluids, but trial is the real world and this has been changed once since then, and had great results so far with the Redline.

Oh no the sky is falling!!!!!🫣 Work on enough of these and you will see what works regarding gear oil. Redline and NEO might just be on that list 🤔. But you do you

@@nordicpride9708 who said the the sky is falling ….would you use Honda transmission fluid in gm product…?

    • @nordicpride9708
      @nordicpride9708 Год назад +1

@@Andrico77 I would use a fluid that’s proven to work regardless of brand. Honda doesn’t make fluids(Exxon Mobil makes their fluids). When you intimately understand oil formulation like I do you can talk. Until then stay in your lane.

@@nordicpride9708 you obviously do not understand the example. All good though. I know the type…. power boat forum know it all grease monkeys. In that case my many years as a CFD engineer is outclassed. You do you, I trust you’ve read enough forums to make you an expert.
