    I am having an issue now with gear lube leaking fast. Didnt think it was coming from the reservoir because I couldnt see any in the bilge area. I did notice the reservoir cap wasnt seating properly when I refilled it. I will check this out and report back, thanks for posting this.

      There is only a few places it can leak. One of my videos I have a homemaid pressure tester I made out of parts around the garage.

    Don’t store your prop up, drop it when you get home. Cause and effect undue stress and strain on outboard,bellows hydraulic lines,both water and oil seepage of leakage of internal gaskets

      You should. About froze for thunder over Louisville. I know you don't have the beaches like we do down river. I trailer to Lake Cumberland couple times a year for poker run and thunder run. I hate land locked lakes like rough river. The thing I like about the river is you never know what you will see. The Pinta, river boats, River clean up barge. I have seen space rockets on barges. My favorite past time is bow fishing and arrow head hunting the banks of the Ohio. I can find private places to anchor or camp on an beach/island. The Ohio river is clear enough right now you can see the propeller...

    have small leak on bottom of monitor tank, nothing coming out of top cap. There is a tab thing on bottom of tank next to wires going into tank is this a on off type valve and if so what position should it be in as that appiers to be where the leak is coming from?

    • @outdoorswithcam
      @outdoorswithcam  2 года назад +1

      There is no value. If you look close the wire go to the low oil sensor. There is expoxe around it. That is where they start to leak. expesatlly in the heat. They are not that expense. just replace the whole unit. They are $40. Some people put silicone around it.

      Dont understand your question. The reservoir hold extra oil. Common to have an air bubble in the upper part of drive. Doesn't mater if its in gear or not the drive shaft is turning. Probably won;t hurt anything if there is no load on it for short time.

    • @outdoorswithcam
      @outdoorswithcam  2 месяца назад

      That pipe is a water pipe from the impeller. That sends water up from the impeller to the engine. Watch your temp. There is only 5 places gear lube can leak. Propeller shat seal, drive shaft seal, O ring between upper and lower and the upper shaft. You look for the leak also check the bilge. You can make a pressure checker like I did. Its in one of my videos.

    • @outdoorswithcam
      @outdoorswithcam  4 года назад +3

      YOu can follow the line back with your finger and see if any oil gets on your finger. If it coming into the bilge below the drive shaft it is the drive shaft seal on the lower unit. You have to pull the lower unit to replace it. At that point you will know because your bellows will be full of oil. Take a mirror or camera and look right under the drive shaft. Or stick your finger under the drive shaft.

      Hey, I had the same problem last weekend. I think the cap wasn,t tightened properly. Today I tested at high rpm with the cap off and found that the level was raising quickly, until I screwed the cap back on. Is it normal for the gear oil to raise like that? Is it alll due to temperature increase from the drive?

    • @outdoorswithcam
      @outdoorswithcam  4 года назад

      @@addihoudijk3854 Its the temp of the oil not pressure. There is a one way value on top of the cap that allows air in but holds the pressure. Its really not much pressure. If you pressue test your lower unit and exced like 12-14lbs you will blow the seals out. So yes it is normal for the oil level to rise as it heats up if you don't have the cap on...

    • @outdoorswithcam

      @@addihoudijk3854 Don't forget the rubber washer that goes under the cap. That is what my video was about. I had taken the washer off to clean when I winterized the boat and forgot to put it back. Next spring had oil everywhere because that washer wasn't there to seal it off

    It seems to me the gear lube monitor causes more problems than it solves, can you cancel it???

    • @outdoorswithcam
      @outdoorswithcam  9 месяцев назад +1

      It controls pressure. When it warms up you will see level raise. My old OMC doesn't have a monitor. There was a void at the top for pressure. SO yes I guess you could plug the hose off.

      @@outdoorswithcam i am trying to understand how it works, because mine has a leak where i have to fill it up every time i go out and its not my lower unit, so does the lube circulate up into the monitor?

    • @outdoorswithcam
      @outdoorswithcam  9 месяцев назад +1

      @@jsm3876 Where is it leaking??? No it is gravity feed. Also hot/cold expansion. But it doesn't circulate. If your level drops and there is not oil on resevor/hose or in bilge you got a problem. There is an O ring/seal on the drive shaft. When its cold and pressure test it holds pressure. But when it gets hot it will slowly leak oil into the water. It can sit all winter and not leak a drop but when it warms up it leaks into water. So if your level is dropping and there is no oil in the bilge thats where its leaking....

    • @outdoorswithcam
      @outdoorswithcam  9 месяцев назад +1

      @@jsm3876 It doesn't move up except for heat expansion. Its gravity flow down. There is no pump in lower unit. It is filled with gear lube that moves with the gears. Just like the oil in a diffential in rear end of car.
