    That boat doesn't seem like it's ever been out 😉.. Clean AF!. Well I run mine in saltwater, and it's stored in rough conditions so I guess I have to live with that 😊

    Excellent video. Covered all the important stuff. Only thing I could add would be grease the bearings on the trailer hubs as well.

    I just picked up a 1988 Caravelle open bow runabout with a 3.0 liter I/O that runs good. My question for anyone out there is this boat does not have power steering on it. I have not had it in the water yet and wonder if they are hard to steer without power assist. And secondly can a power steering setup be added. I have a complete power steering unit off of a 4.3 liter Mercruiser. Would it be possible to install on my 3.0Liter motor???? Thanks to anyone who could give me advise on these questions.

  • @jcjimenez6119

    What would you consider optimal idle speed? Where should the needle on the gauge sit?

    • @fiero880
      @fiero880  9 лет назад

      According to the Mercruiser Manual Idle RPM in Neutral should be 700. And do not go by the RPM Gauge. If you are going to set the RPM, by or rent an external reader / Gauge. Those gauges that come from Faria can be so far off.

    Why do you need to disconnect the battery cables when you winterize.What does it do for the battery or the boat by disconnecting cables?

    • @fiero880
      @fiero880  6 лет назад

      For one the radio draws a small electric current for the station backup. If it is left uncharged long enough and in a cold environment it will kill your battery.

    I have a 2004 bayliner 175 with the 3.0 Alpha. My warning alarm comes on after about a minute and stays on. My understanding this is due to one of three things, overheat, oil pressure, or drive lube. The first two i think are ruled out (temp reads fine and there's no way it would be overheated after 1 minute; oil pressure and level read fine). So i'm wondering about the lube sensor. On my boat, which i just purchased from an independent seller, the lube monitor reservoir doesn't have any wires coming out as i see on all the diagrams and replacement parts. There's only the tube that comes out the bottom and runs down to the lower unit. Any ideas?

    • @fiero880
      @fiero880  6 лет назад

      Hmmmm........Unless someone changed the drive oil reservoir that did not come with a sensor and it is bypassed or hot-wired. Are you 100% sure you have good water flow from the impeller ? It is possible to have a bad impeller not getting water into the cooling system and causing overheating but yes I agree I would think you would see this on the temp gauge. You really need to find a manual for that specific year. Find out what triggers the alarm. Also confirm the alarm doesn't rely on its own sensors meaning is there two temp sensors. One for the gauge and one for the alarm. And then troubleshoot it this way.

    Good video's as usual fiero888. Question for you. I noticed in one of your other videos that you drain the water out of your block and manifolds and you don't put antifreeze in. What's your thoughts on the block getting corrosion? I called mercury and they recommend putting antifreeze in to protect the block from rust or corrosion. Thanks

  • @ej.Sal14
    @ej.Sal14 3 года назад

    Good evening sir, I noticed when you winterized your boat you drained all the water from the blocks, etc. Did you refill with antifreeze prior to this video? Thank you.

    • @fiero880

      No because it was a fresh water boat.

      @@fiero880 thank you for the reply. So I don’t need to add coolant after it’s been drained? Mercruiser 3.0. Sorry for being Naive I can’t seem to find the answer anywhere don’t want to damage my engine

  • @jselby1983

    Where do you hook up the water hose? I’ve got a 2004 br175 but can’t find the water hookup

    • @fiero880
      @fiero880  5 лет назад

      You have to purchase a set of stern drive "muffs" mostly found at boating stores, some hardware stores ect. You hook your hose to the muffs and then slide it over the water intake area of the stern drive.

  • @ReayReay90
    @ReayReay90 8 лет назад

    We have to drain the block from water so don't we need to add water in the spring?

    • @fiero880
      @fiero880  8 лет назад +1

      Draining the water from the block prevents the water from freezing during the winter. In some cases and environments for example harsh fresh water lakes or salt water areas and extreme cold people add antifreeze as an added protection. Come spring or warm weather, the block will clear itself out, or be filled again with water once the boat is ran on muffs or on the water.

    hello everybody... trying to get one problem fixed with 2011 Bayliner 175, 3.0 TKS. The engine stalls at mid-range RPMs. It looks like there is a "dead zone" RPMs between 1500 and 2000 or so. It idles and runs fine at low and high RPMs, but not at mid range ones. Got the carb cleaned and rebuilt, changed fuel filters, checked pick-up hose, replaced anti-siphon valve, replaced spark plugs... Thinking about replacing the coils and the solenoid valve. Any ideas what else could be wrong?

  • @chuckque6234

    I am having 2006 maxuma 1800 and have same motor.
    I got change oil filter and it start fine but when I take boat it water and accelerate engine keep getting off I have to keep cranking again and again. Or drive on high speed . If I try to slow down engine get turn off. Any advise?

    • @fiero880
      @fiero880  3 года назад

      Unfortunately, it sounds like your idle and mid jets inside your carb are clogged up. You can try removing the idle adjustment screw from the carb and spray carb cleaner to try and remove the clog, be sure to count the number of turns in your original screw was set at before removing. Or you may have to take the carb apart and do a complete clean / rebuild. In some cases because of the me cruiser factory black paint being so difficult to separate the carb halves and the gaskets, it may be cheaper and easier to buy a new mercruiser carb off of eBay.

    Well 1 year sit aint bad. I got merc 3.0 that aint been started since 2004. And i dont no if it was winterized and o
    Im in ill. And get many below zero days every year. So spring im changing oil and gas and got my fingers crossed. What are my chances of success. No cracks in the prop and i dont see any on the block. Im not so sure that a slight amount of water will crack block any way. Think these engines drain right back out the prop when tilted and only a slight amount of water left behind . am i wrong this is what i think. Since prop low end never cracked that tells me not anything to worry about.

    If you hate the loud beep of the ignition alarm as much as I do, you can go under the helm and put a piece of duct tape over the speaker hole, or just cut the wire.

    • @jamiewhitworth7183
      @jamiewhitworth7183 6 лет назад +2

      That is the alarm test sound, it will come on briefly so you can be aware that the system, and the alarm is working.
      The alarm comes on when you have low oil pressure, an overheating engine or some other catastrophic failure.
      Do not disable it!!
