I have a 2010 175 I found in beautiful condition for literally a brother-in-law discount. 3.0L is not a Cigarette but I don’t want fast. Been a great boat! Yes, in the boat world it’s considered a starter, but I see it as a simpler boat to have. I’m more into cruising and piloting a boat with good music and exploring the waters of all kinds. It’s easier to manage and can concentrate on the experience 😎. Now that’s not saying that I wouldn’t get a bigger boat eventually 😏
Had the exact boat was a 2000 model year and then sold it for a 1952 cuddy cabin.......Both are fantastic little boats.......Both had the little 4 banger.
Looks like it could use just a little higher pitched prop. Was over 5000 rpm I think on the tachometer but I suppose have to consider only one person and no gear in the boat. Nice looking and running boat.
I had two a 19 inch pitch and a 21 inch the 19 i used very rarely as it allowed the engine to. Rev too high and not seem to have to work at all whereas the 21 it was the best even w 4 people in the boat and a 200 lb skiier it pulled them the boat and all right out of the hole w out much of a struggle it seemed those 4 cyl motors have lots of low end torque the old Pontiac 4 cyl I. Believe and even on the top end w no one in the boat it ran 47 and turned 4300 rpms maxed out and trimmed out to be just barely porpoising almost but not quite I thought about doel fins but never got them enjoyed the boat a lot and never had an issue at least w the motor anyway the sterndrive I did but that was my fault being a newbie lol
I have a 1996 STINGRAY Z Hull model with 124 hrs 3.0 litre with Alpha one running 19in 5 Blade stainless with alloy TRIM plate... she can when out trimmed do 1 bare footer at 54 MPH..this was verified & paced next to a Malibu Response Tournament wake boat.
One regret I'll always have is selling my 21ft Dixie Cuddy/WA. Same engine, MerCruiser 3.0 L LX with the Alpha l. Moved my boat at 39 mph full throttle, 42 with a good river current. 1 issue over 7 yrs I owned it, Power Steering Pump. Wish I could buy it back.
Darn thats a nice boat!! I don't care its a starter boat, I'd keep that till I die. I've gotta find me a Bayliner. I just gotta 1990 Glassteam 180 SE and just put it in the shop today for them to go over it and tell me if there r any issues. Fingers crossed. Lol
I curious about these. I live in Shetland and we can get a git of sea up here. The boat looks lovely and I'm considering one but they don't strike me as being suited to small / moderate swell?
They wouldn’t be the best sea boat. Much more suited to lakes & coastal estuaries. I think you’d be better with a self-bailing boat and maybe something with a closed bow around Shetland.
No more so than any marine engine in my experience. We actually tend to see more v6 & v8’s with serious problems. If properly maintained the 3.0L is a nice reliable engine.
Zero complaints for my 3.0L, gas hours are much more pleasing than the 5.0, 5.7, or the 7.4. But V8 engines sound like they have more problems because of lack of experience of maintaining marine V8s, many more moving parts which contribute to increase of problem probability, and the fact that there are ALOT of V8s out there. But yeah I would give 3.0L positive feedback 😎
That 2000 1750 looks more modern than a 2006 175 with its square windscreen. Is the 1750 and the 175 a different model? I thought the 1750 was older than the 175, but maybe I'm wrong...
I’m not an expert on this, but to my knowledge the 1750 Capri was a curved windshield boat built from 1998 until around 2003. Then the 175 (with square windshield) was built from around 2004 until 2008. Then from 2009 onwards the Bayliner 175 was updated with a curved windshield again & moulded fibreglass deck. Hope this helps.
I got one of these a 1995 mint condition with maybe 100 hours of use on it in its life. Question is are those brackets on the back stable enough to tow a tube or wakeboard from? Does anyone have experience towing anything like that with these boats.
5200 rpm is way too much for that engine 42-4400 is the max wot rpm! 46mph is movin mine does 40 downwind most of the time 39-39 miles an hour that’s at 4400 rpm
A few months ago I sold my boat and a guy came to buy it, the engine was a 5.7 V8 and the test drive began, the rpm was at 5500, it was a boat from 2005 a little old and I only asked him to lower the rpm a little to no more than 5000 and subject took a very annoying defensive attitude. saying that if he was going to buy something he had to test very well and that he had a boat and always put it at 5500 rpm 4.3 v6 and nothing had ever happened
2 Things, never call a boat a starter boat (it's not)at this price if u want people interested & to buy it, also,.. to see if the kids are interested ? ... Goofy comments right off the bat... Your a seller,.. so you want to people to buy up, & that's a lousy way to do it...Cheers

Damn, when you dropped the hammer, she absolutely took off. Impressive.

Hello. I just bought a boat with the same engine. I'm able to get it running for about 30 seconds then it turns off. Do you have any idea why?
@@jeffb1690 My Dixie was a 97. My best advice to you, Buy the engine manual. But does it idle and cut off or when you apply throttle?
@@jeffb1690 sounds like clogged Carbeurator jets, did u get it running?
I have the same one same year , still original
The Capri 160 is THE Bayliner starter boat. I know this because I had one.
I was just thinking if there a way to change the gears to get more prop rotation from less rpm

I got one for sale if you're interested!!!
Lol.
I know it's been a while.
But my 98 1750 capri is a great boat!
WHAT PROP AND PITCH THANKS

@@GulfStreamBoats cheers for your thoughts :)
I’ve heard the 3.0’s Merc or Penta are notorious for cracks in the block and blown head gaskets. Is there any truth to that if properly maintained?
No more so than any marine engine in my experience. We actually tend to see more v6 & v8’s with serious problems. If properly maintained the 3.0L is a nice reliable engine.
@@GulfStreamBoats I suspected as much. Good to know.
@@GulfStreamBoats I have zero complaints. Proper maintenance & common sense. My hull never saw fresh water, All salt.

The transom eyes are stout enough, but the mooring cleats are not.
How is the fuel consumption on cruising speeds on open water of this boat?
What prop and pitch are you running?
Got same engine on 2002 Bayliner 1950 CL
T'was a steal, paid only $3.5k for this 2002 Bayliner Capri 1950 in fair condition .
What size propeller?
At 5k rpm that motor will not last long. Keep it no higher than 3k and it will last for many years.
4600 is WOT on a 3.0.... so you are overspeed, so probably propped incorrectly.
yep.. i was thinking between 4400-4800. 4600 right in middle. thx

its 4400 to 4800, with more fuel and more people on board the wot rpm will be around 4800

Are your riding on salt water?
No, it’s a river
3.0 merc will max at 37 mph in a heavy wooden ps bayliner
Cool
Get back to me on this boat
Sea Ray 175 is built much better
That's true, but not everyone can afford a Sea Ray.
