Your timing on making this video was impeccable. I just got back from the lake last week and saw that dreaded green puddle. I was confused about where it was coming from until I watched this. Went to O'Reilly auto parts and got the 1/4" fuel hose (250 psi) and hose clamps for a grand total of $7.00. So much better than waiting for the boat shop to get my boat in "anywhere from 4-5 weeks". Took me about two hours because I decided to drain and change out the gear lube in the outboard as well. Crappy that the Bravo 1 outdrive requires you to remove the prop to get to that lower drain screw. In the end, it kept extra lube from dripping out when I raised the prop to install the outboard side of the hose.
It worked! Just like you said. Had I not watched your video I would have lacked the confidence to have tackled this job. The telescoping screwdriver would have helped but I was able to get it with just a regular screwdriver. I definitely needed the little razor blade knife. Thank you!!
Glad I found this video. My Alpha one requires a once or so after a day on the lake. Pressure checked the lower unit and it was good. No residual in the water. I will now check the hose and clamps. Thanks
Just did it and it was a pain in the *** but I was able to do it. Recommend a long screw driver, work light to wedge in for the rear most clamping area to see it, long cutters, straight and 45 degree pliers, box cutter, zip ties, small clamps and even hose clamp pliers if you can find them. O’Reillys had a pair that were needle nose with a notch for hoses. Take your time and don’t forget to clamp off the line from the reservoir. Thanks for this video. Even the shops said you had to remove it all. 😁 proved them wrong.

It's a Parker with the 5.7 MerCruiser that I'm going to be using to pull a trawl net for shrimp along the coast of SC. I'm replacing the engine outdrive coupler now and have been trying to look through all the videos on these types of engines on RUclips. I appreciate your time in making the video.

You can do this and save $1600. Be prepared to get dirty. Oil drips. Took 4 hours for both motors. I am an average weekend toy mechanic. Laying on my tool kit helped get closer. Sitting on my yeti for the other end. Forehead light, and a flashlight. Use full Stainless hose clamps. I used 1/4” auto zone fuel hose. I went 1.5” longer than stock length. Sniped the end of my hose clamps. My 2006 had the plastic barbs on transom side. Used Allen wrenches to stretch my new hose with dawn and left it in the sun while I was removing old hoses. Harbor freight: 2pk long needle nose, long angle snips, long exacto, long flathead. Be extremely careful with your cuts. Bellows are less than an inch away.
amazing and helpful video. I had a special plastic hose clip on one end. other than some scraped hands and bruised ego I got it done in a couple of hours. nice to have long tools, a clip light or helper. don't get junky clamps. 🎉
thanks for your video- Last week I just noticed some leaking of gear oil right on that same line- haven't looked real closely yet but will now that I saw your video. The gear oil leaks when the drive is down but stops when it's up, so now that I can see the line shown by you, I'm assuming that there is probably a crack in it which closes when the drive is up and then opens when lowered. Just a guess, but most likely that's correct- I did see oil dripping along that line. So regardless if this is my issue or not, good job showing your process for replacing that line.

Note that the reservoir and hose is actually completely unnecessary. We remove all that from racing boats. Just check your drive level at the vent occasionally. That's all we have ever done, and our boats are way up in horsepower. Never a problem. It's a Mickey Mouse arrangement, that reservoir. If the fluid level changes in your leg, there is a leaky seal. Fix the seal. Just adding oil doesn't fix anything, and that what's the reservoir does, is hide the real problem.
Sorry for the delay. This comment slipped be me. I think it was 1/4”. I took the old hose off, then took it to Lowe’s to compare. I cut the old hose in half to get a good measurement of the cross section.
Hose clamp on the bell housing is the harest part, tried using a plastic pinch clamp byt it just rotated on the hose and got lost behind the bell housing fitting, ill have to add another hose clamp and hopefully doesnt rip the gimbal bellow
Just watched your video thanks. I’m losing significant oil from my header tank. I.e. the whole tank after only travelling a few miles. When I crank the engine oil can be seen in the water coming from exhaust. Was this what yours was doing? Thanks

You go over a bunch of creative knots and a few I use at work, the only one I didn’t see is a VooDoo Hitch (we also use it in conjunction with a Spanish bowline) if you never heard of it you should check it out it’s a similar style to a truckers hitch. Blew my mind the first time I used it at work 😅
I read about it. There’s a clip you slide out perpendicular to the hose, on the bilge side of the wall. Once you pull the clip, the fitting slides out for replacement.
THANK YOU for posting this!! I've been sweating it all winter wondering whether or not I would need to pull the gimbal housing. Great to know that it is possible to replace it without doing so. My current hose is not leaking however it looks like there are two layers of hose, and the outside hose is cracking. Was the hose you took off a double-layered hose? And what size hose did you buy to replace it?
Don't really need one if you have flappers in exhaust pipe. Otherwise, yes, a hard shut down or hard reverse water WILL go all the way up over your risers and down into the cylinders. Been there, done that. :(

The is another seal if you follow the hose to the transome wall. If your google search for the gear oil supply fitting, you’ll see what I’m referring to. Best of luck.
Well I was doing research for this repair I saw that there’s a clip on the inside of the engine bay. You should be able to pull the clip and change out the bar from there
Curoius of that question, myself. The filler resivour is actually like a car radiator resivour so if outdrive gets hot the oil can go all the way back into resivour. Otherwise I would say don't need.

Be extremely careful with your cuts. Bellows are less than an inch away.
Just did mine. Thanks for the video! I used zip ties and surgical clips to tighten them. Transmission cooler hose from auto parts store.

At least you have the brass fitting that goes through transom. The plastic one that elbow joint is popular for braking off.

I bought 1/4” hose. It was generic fuel hose with braided strands within.

There should be a “C” clip keeping it fastened to the transom wall. Pull it from the engine side.
Unfortunately mine is leaking into the bilge, any tips on how to do that without pulling outdrive? I suspect my barb is cracked on the inside

No, I just had to adjust the tilt up and down to access everything.
