Ever wondered how offshore sailors go to the toilet? Jump on board from Cape Verde to Cape Town in our exclusive Behind the Scenes of our professional sailing Team Malizia in The Ocean Race. In this episode the team is struggling with loud noise and the everyday challenges of daily life in a tiny space with five people. And our skipper Boris Herrmann talks about his injured foot. Will he be able to return for the next leg in the Southern Ocean?
    Chapters:
    1:20 - Injured Boris & Skipper Will
3:42 - Off to Cape Town (Start of leg 2)
    6:57 - The Doldrums, Neptune's Playground
    10:28 - Neptune's Punishment!!! 🤣
11:40 - Special Care for Boris
13:25 - Southern Atlantic - Full Speed Ahead
    14:57 - Rosie & the bucket
16:18 - Screaming noise on board
    18:55 - Foil Issues ... again
    22:20 - Cape Town - A close finish
"Malizians" is an exclusive documentary series which is created by the German journalist Carsten Behrendt (@nahsehen) who has full access to our team during The Ocean Race. The footage on board is filmed by Antoine Auriol and additional footage comes from our team's content creator Jimmy Horel. We also like to thank The Ocean Race for their general race footage.

I watch cruiser videos. The professional editing sets this half hour videos apart from nearly all of them. Thank you videographer Antoine for letting us participate in this race journey. Concerning the constant ear-piercing noise, can't you place several small loudspeakers around the living area of Malizia and then us noise-cancelling technology. Alternatively, give the crew noise-cancelling headphones or in-ears. That should at the least lower the constant noise floor. Good Luck und immer Guten Wind für Malizia.

    • @maltekoch1632
      @maltekoch1632 Год назад +1

Active noise canceling doesn't work in an area. The speakers are trying to make a destructive interference, but with the sound coming from different spots you are just achieving at best small spots with fractions of the wavelength of low noise surrounded by areas with higher noise. For sounds of ~4kHz like the foils the wavelength is shorter then 10cm. Would made it worse.

Egal was passiert, Malizia ist mein Team 🤗🤗⛵️👏👏🍀

Congrats to your Media Team. The Videos are very well edited, the Footages are awesome and sometimes spectacular. You gave me an exciting Summary of, what was going on on board and on Land. To me, this is my first ocean race, that I want to watch in full length. And on this way, I can learn a lot about the tactical Decisions and what i s going on. But one thing I can say at this moment: This race captivates me.
Alles Gute Boris und lass sie fliegen.

What a challenge for highly competitive athletes to have to throttle back. Disappointing to be sure... BUT! The right call.
Just like the long view of - sailing further west to Brazil brought you to the lead...
So too will delivering Malizia to Cape Town - with a foil that can be repaired - prove to be the right move to get you to the front once again over the many months to go.
A professional performance by those on the shore and those on the boat. Go Team Malizia Go!

    Fantastic team! Well done!
About the noise issue: Even with custom earplugs you can't get rid off all the noise because your body will receive and transfer the noise to your ears. You should definitely shield the sleeping cabins so at least the crew has some time to recover while sleeping.

Could you please provide add English to the closed captioning? Its particularly frustrating when Boris is speaking because I want to hear what he is saying.
    I’m really enjoying this series.

I Don't know much about sailboats or sailing, but it seems that this vessel has part of their sail dragging along in the water on the starboard side, you cannot tell me that this sail wont slow it down, however I haven't watched the whole video yet ,so am hoping one of these young people see it,soon, for they will certainly lose the race!!

    Great video, as always.
I do have two questions though:
Didn't you announce that you wanted to show how difficult it was to get Yann to the boat in time in this video?
And why did the team decide to leave the spinnaker on land? Does the team regret it? Will it be using the spinnaker in the upcoming legs?

We were going to be we had sooo much content it was hard! We managed to get Yann in with no passport but many government letters!
With the sails we haven’t decided that yet :-) it would have been good to have it for leg 1 and leg 2

Whats the significance of "target" on the b&g device ? All the actual numbers are off. Like boat speed is 32.2 but target is 25.5. heel angle is -13 but the target is 5

On the cracked foil, could you drill hole at the ends of the crack to stop it from growing?
