  • I get the full tour aboard an AC40 with long time Emirates Team New Zealand member and Kiwi coach Ray Davies who talks me through how an AC40 works and what the thinking behind the detail is.
    Plus, he tells me what the the team has been up to during a very busy period in which the clock continues to count down towards the first of the preliminary regattas in September this year.
    It's not often you get through the gates at ETNZ so to have an afternoon with the team was pretty special.

    What a treat, just in time to watch another of your interesting, exciting, pleasant sounding and knowledgeable presentations. The tech is just so exciting these days, can’t wait for the America’s Cup to see how fast we humans can sail now! Thanks for all the information and inspiration and Fair sailing it you, SkipRay, Able Marine, Kenmare, Kerry, Ireland.

    Great to hear about aspects not discussed in other AC commentaries yet are hugely significant. It really is not just the best sailors out on the water that win the Cup but an entire host of people behind the scenes on and offshore committed to working together to develop the best boat for the next America's Cup event. 👍

    Awesome video, super cool to see and hear details of the cup build up. It would be awesome (if you could swing it) to see videos like this for some of the other teams. Between you and Mozzy Sails we are being treated to some excellent build up coverage this cup cycle - keep it up! Cheers

    Reading what's said is good.
    The fluid power and coordination of Will and ?Chris at the grinder was memorable.
    Nice the way we've been shown the characters of sailors of all boats, new and existing.

    Thanks Matt and Ray, two professionals at work, great questions and answers. Its starting to get interesting but Barcalona is a different beast compared to the Hauraki Gulf, big fast boats in big swells , that could go sideways in the blink of an eye. Loved the NZL 20 story, I used to live just up the road from her and never realised she was just sitting there all those years ;-)

    The speed of evolution of a class with digital tech has to be shocking when only two cuts in, how close to pinnacle is this class.
    It took decades to get the 12m to its pinnacle.

    Very odd watching boats unsure what point of sail they are on. E.g. @9:30, broad reach gybe, I assumed they would be tacking close to wind, bamboozled me for a minute until you work out TWA.

    • @Gottenhimfella
      @Gottenhimfella Год назад +1

      You're not the only person to evidently have trouble with that.
      Whoever edited this vid made a faux pas at 5:55 which was supposed to show a tack, whereas on screen the boat executes a gybe (the bow turns away from the wind)

    • @BRMCaptChaos
      @BRMCaptChaos Год назад

      @@Gottenhimfella good spot. On a flat track with no discernible movement of boom, jib clew or sail shape, sailing at 18deg AWA everywhere, this is becoming tricky.

    Over the last 100 plus years of the Americas Cup, the Americans never bothered about every team being the same,having the same boats, it's come a long way,and smacks of people complaining about one team winning it all the time. Like awarding every kid a medal,even if they came last.
