Hey Brian, I am still flying my Mavic 2 Pro, but the MP3 to be ordered soon. My favorite photos right now are Drone panos shooting back to shore. These photos are also my best stock sellers so others seem to like them as well. I am finding Florida is beautiful from the air.😎🤙
I would add an additional tip: prepare/check your camera/drone settings fully before you take off or before you go for altitude. Once I'm up in the air it almost seems like my IQ drops 30 points. It's best to check your shutter speed, aperture, memory card, etc while you still have your faculties. A bonus tip: always shoot your stills in DNG format. That at least gives you a chance to fix minor exposure mistakes in post. Thanks for the tips. I had figured some of this out for myself, but it's good to see your summary. I have the M2P and as wonderful as the M3 camera is, I've no plans to upgrade at this time. I'm going to go check some of your other videos now. PS was that volcano part of the field NW of Flagstaff?
Absolutely right! It’s funny how my mind forgets that I can set the appropriate camera settings before taking off. But that’s a great point. Same with DNG. I see no reason to shoot in jpg unless one of the creative modes only supports that format. As for the volcano, it was in southern Utah. I’m heading back down there next week and may visit that area again with the new drone.
Some sound advice Brian. I’m moderately new to droning (ex professional press and magazine photographer) looking on a new take in my 8th decade. I brought the MP3 Classic and have attained some terrific shots but I do find the 24mm frustrating and limiting, main complaint being just too wide for the job in hand and distorted edges. Do you use the telephoto lens on your MP3? I read some fairly disparaging reviews about its very limited usage and poor results. Can you offer me any take on this option? On the deck I love shooting telephoto for that ‘compression’ effect, I even use to shoot portraits with a 300mm lens. But when shooting drone work at the oblique angle that you suggest and I agree totally with you on that point, it’s rather hard to attain with a 24mm. I’ve just subscribed to your channel and look forward to more informative discussion and musings. Cheers.
Welcome to the channel, Michael! Thanks for being here. Regarding the telephoto lens on the MP3, I can’t stand it. It has become one of those things that just confounds me because I see no real reason for it aside from it being a gimmick from DJI. Well… let me clarify. I’d love a telephoto option if the image quality was actually usable. Unfortunately, the output files just aren’t up to snuff for me. Basically, I treat the MP3 as a single lens platform and have forgotten all about the longer lens. With that said, the drone is an absolute power house otherwise.
Nice tips Brian. I only have a mavic air 2 but in good light I am happy with the images. I can't see me being able to afford a mavic 3. I'm on my second air 2 as the first one is still in a waterfall out of safe reach. Thankfully I was insured.
Nice! Appreciate the tips a lot. You really do have the creative freedom when you have a high performance drone like the Mavic 3. Insame camera quality!!!
My pleasure! As for shooting in low light, my best recommendation is to find the sweet spot between ISO and aperture. Of course, it also depends on whether you’re taking about low light stills or video. I’ve found that the sensor does a solid job of handling noise at higher ISOs, but I try not to increase it too high. And with video, I only had the options of ISO 400 and 800, which makes no sense to me.
@@brianmatiash Thank you for answering my question. I am planning on purchasing the mavic 3. I never really took pictures with my mavic platinum pro. I will like to start with the M3. Thanks again
I really enjoyed that! And that last point you made about flying a drone is a privilege 😄. I’m on a knife edge to purchase this drone, however are you able to advise if the 7x optical zoom or “explore mode” can take RAW Stills? Thanks again, liked and subscribed 😄
Nice video! Definitely good tips to remember. Though I will say, sometimes I like not having any reference or sense of scale to enhance the abstract quality of an image. You say you won't do anything with the texture of the volcano but I see it as a starting point for layering graphics! ha ha! Can't wait to see more of what you do with the Mavic 3!
Spoken like a true graphics designer! Trust me, I have all the respect for people like you who see that top-down shot and can think of 20 different ways to creatively use it. And same with you - can’t wait to see what you get with yours!
Great video Brian, thank you. Give me a lot to think about for next time I take my drone
You’re most welcome, Alfredo! I hope it gave you some ideas to get even better drone shots.
Great tutorial. Thank you.
You’re very welcome!

The Tetris-like picture is amazing ! ^^
Thank you! That was a lucky find because I definitely did not see it from the random country road I was driving on.

@@brianmatiash Those spherical panoramas are fantastic and the resulting jpg files are remarkably well balanced.
I look forward to trying it. For now, most of the Mavic 3’s creative functions are disabled until a firmware update due in “January 2022.”
Nice, really nice

Thankfully, with the Mavic 3's reliable flight performance, users can focus more on improving the quality of their drone shots!
Exactly right!
Thanks for the tips Brian! On another note, can you share also some tips when shooting with the Mavic 3 on low-light settings?

Just curious, how you shot the waterfall? Electronic ND filter? Is the drone stable enough? Or is it merged multi-shot?
This is amazing tips. What do you use to edit your pictures?? I am new around here
Thank you! I use Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop to edit all of my photos.

There's no laws in your country about flying higher than 500ft?
cool, make the drone bigger in the thumbnail. thumbnails need exaggeration.
