You can also set up the Axe to send the tone without a cabinet to another output so you can capture both the cab and no-cab tones at the same time. P.S. Looking forward to your Jetpack Was Yes video!

@@claytonamero Hey there, if you're using USB the way you do this is by making an "Output 2" in the row below your normal row and then connect it to the "Amp" block to it. This will send your processed signal to output 1/2 and the signal without the cab to output 3/4. Additionally, the DI will be on output 5/6 automatically. So you can set three channels to record the complete tone, non-cab tone and the DI tone all at once. Let me know if you need any more information!
Your DAW should have a latency compensation. Logic Pro X mostly does this automatically but DAWs like Reaper, Cubase, and Pro-Tools might need you to set it up.
Cubase has “constrain delay compensation” that temporarily turns off plugins that introduce delay. Also, you can use a smaller buffer size on your soundcard when tracking to reduce latency. When you’re done tracking, you can go back to a bigger buffer and turn off “constrain delay compensation”. This is better for mixing. If your computer is powerful enough, you may not need to adjust much. If you get cracks and glitches in audio that’s a sign the buffer size is too small, and computer is working too hard. Turning off some plugins temporarily will help.
A better way to manage editing the DI imo is to record into a stereo file where one side is your DI box and the other is the amplified tone. That way you only have to edit one clip instead of two simultaneously. Once it's edited you can just pan between them to select DI vs amp.
I always had problems with volume changes and latency but monitoring through a different channel that goes straight out, that’s an amazing tip! Thank you, sir!

I'd recommend recording the DI/Amp track to a single stereo track where left is DI and right is Amp. You can use a couple different plugins to solo one side or the other; bx_solo is free. This would reduce a ton of setup/visual clutter in your session, and you won't run into issues with forgetting to have group editing enabled or not.

I guess Misha owns pretty powerful PC or a Mac but for me a pleb what I do is I freeze tracks when I'm somewhat happy with how they sound. this makes new wav files but keeps DI in case you change your mind later and free up memory and cpu.
Good idea. Yeah I watched misha’s livestream going through the “reptile” demo session and he mentioned that he is using an iMac pro. So yes he has a bit of a beastly machine
@Kirby Kore storage is easy... Just get an external SSD drive... CPU can be saved by freezing or turning off some of the plugins that aren't so crucial for the creative stage. Memory is stuff especially if you're using lot of samples since everything loads to RAM... Freezing helps kind of but in some DAWs it only frees the CPU but keeps the samples loaded
I'm kinda sad there was nothing new for me but great info for sure lol. Sending to some of my guitar buddies new to production, Misha sums it up in like the first 7 minutes better than I can. Great tips, I think most guitar players will eventually be seeking out these to solve problems and it's just so much better to not learn the hard way about not tracking a DI lol

Here in this video it seems you have no problem with latency, so what are your buffer settings and latency measurements shown in Cubase itself? I just ask because I have a very similar setup to yours and I would love to monitor through my MIKKO plugin, but even with buffer settings at 64 and input-output latency combined at around 7,6 ms it feels very distracting. Glad I bought a Radial and started tracking both DI and also amp a couple years ago, because a web colaborator wanted only DI guitar tracks from me. After this video those Radial boxes will probably sell out.

Curious why you need an actual DI box these days. Doesn't every interface have a high-Z input? Or is it more for getting the isolated "through" jack? Also, rad chords, that C#m7add2 "shape", on the 3rd fret is sooo nice

I have a M-Audio Fast Track USB, and I use on Windows 8 with 128 sample rate. Got 3.3/3.3ms on Reaper using ASIO4all and I am still bothered with that. I am using now the Direct Monitoring button, but unfortunately I can't listen to my plugins on recording.

I'm guessing the answer is because Misha is routing the AxeFX 3 through his other audio gear and isn't capturing audio from the AxeFx 3 via USB, but figured I would ask.

I have this exact setup but I’m using the line 6 helix instead of the axe fx and I can hear the direct input guitar sound in Cubase but for some reason can’t hear the helix tones/presets. Does anyone have an idea what I’m doing wrong??
What is your roundtrip latency and how many samples do you use as buffer at which sample recording rate? Do you ever run into latency sync issues while having one signal be processed by the scarlett and the other by the AxFX, especially in a reamp situation? Considering you're using two pieces instead of one. I mean, with the pricetag of the AxFX you would hope they provide you with a solid recording interface but I've heard issues in every version where there is crackling and stutter when the CPU is pegged to max in one scene and using really low latency samples, apparently affecting the processing chain negatively. So that would explain why you'd use a dedicated input for the DI instead just to be on the safe side.
Got a question good people - when using a drum sampler like any GGD, and you're tracking guitar/bass/keys, is the sampler already routed out and mixed in multiple tracks and buses? OR, do you keep it in stereo until its time to actually mix? I ask because its a pretty intensive sampler. I like to track at a sample rate of
I am pretty sure he is just using GGD in stereo and not fully mixed in this example since I don't see any drum groups and it sounds like just stock mixing in Kontakt. I don't think you can have a full drum mix and record at a low latency unless you have a beast mode computer.

In a live stream on his channel the other day he talked about using delays and reverbs from Valhalla, Eventide, and Soundtoys. Those are all pretty expensive, but there are good plugins for cheap or free that you can find all over the internet.
Can you export the IR from Zilla Cabs and load it on to the axe fx to get it sounding like the track you are recording on and perform with it live? Will it sound the same or will it change if loaded on the Axe fx?

Recording a seperate input without the cab so you can re-cab it later makes so much sense, how have I never thought of that before.
You can also set up the Axe to send the tone without a cabinet to another output so you can capture both the cab and no-cab tones at the same time.

Recording without cab has been the life of Eleven Rack users for years now (can't load IRs, and stock IRs are...not great lol)

My config is much the same as Misha and I'm running a moderate 4-5 yr old home-built PC. Storage is cheap.

You just right click and make group, then you can drag in whatever and edit the group on a bus

Safeguard... many reputable engineers like Nolly uses DI Box too
also, it's to split your amp and DI signal without affecting your DI sound

Group everything into buses. Then submix every bus. After that mix the buses.
