Thank you! This stereo is so NOT user friendly! Would've taken me hours to figure this out on my own!
You're welcome! What Mustang did you pick up?
I wish I knew this before I just rented one for a wedding, used Bluetooth instead of a USB cable. I hated the inbuilt Nav system.
Aww.. must have been nice to have that car for the wedding though. Did you go for a convertible or fastback?
Thank you for the video. However, I was unable to get CarPlay started on my 2018 Mustang Sync3, despite it being correctly connected via Bluetooth and through the cable, as I can see my phone (iPhone 15 Pro) listed among the connected sources.
Hmm.. USB is the only option for CarPlay and Android Auto so there are a few things that you can try.
1. Soft reset - press and hold the power button and right seek button just under the screen for 5-10 seconds. The screen should go black then turn back on.
2. On your phone go to Settings --> General --> CarPlay. If your car is listed there, delete it. Then go to bluetooth and delete the vehicle connection from the phone and on the Sync3 screen remove the phone connection from the vehicle. Plug yourself back into the USB port and that should launch CarPlay.
3. Replace your USB cable. I find some 3rd party cables don't support data transfer so make sure that the cable has a data transfer icon on the part you're plugging into the USB port
Thank you for your attention. I tried steps 1 and 2, but without success. I tried with a friend's Android phone, and it worked perfectly on the first try. However, I need to find a USB-A to USB-C cable that supports data transfer for the iPhone and retest.
Frustrating for sure but hopefully that cable swap does it for you!
does this only work for cars with nav? my phone only connects for contacts and music. nothing shows up under apps and it doesn't give me the carplay option at all.
No.. it would work on all Sync3 screens from Ford! If Android Auto or Apple CarPlay aren't working it's most likely the USB cable. Make sure that your USB cable supports data transfer. I find that 3rd party cables don't work most of the time. Use an Apple branded cable!
One other thing you could try first is a soft reset for the screen by pressing and holding the radio power button and the seek right button at the same time for about 5 seconds. It'll turn off and take 20 - 30 seconds to relaunch
Having this same issue did you find a solution
Never mind it’s definitely the cable lol
I have a 2016 Ford Mustang with Ford Sync v3.4 and nothing happens when I connect my phone
it paired with car via bluetooth phone sync but android auto will not start when I connect it via cable
Few things that usually work with the Sync3 system when it won't connect..
1. Try using another USB port
2. Replace the cable with an OEM original. I find that 3rd party cables don't work properly to transfer data
I have mustong and tried to connect my Samsung phone but it's working for sometime and sadintly it's disconect i should remove the cable and connect again
You shouldn't have to keep on connecting and disconnecting the cable.. First thing to try would be to:
1. Delete the phone connection from the vehicle and delete the vehicle connection from the phone's bluetooth
2. Re-connect the phone and then connect over USB
If that doesn't work, replace the USB cable with another factory original - so get another Samsung cable if you're using a Samsung etc..
Is it possible to run Andriod auto via Bluetooth in the 2022 gt premium?
Nope.. wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay use a wifi connection that the Sync3 screen doesn't support
Will this work if I plug a USB A to USB C adapter into the USB port? My phone fast charges with USB C and I’d rather not compromise on that.
It should work but you may not get the same rapid charge using a USB-A - USB-C adapter
Do 2020 mustangs have this in the premium eco-boost ?
Yes they do
Is there a way to toggle though all the presets with the steering wheel controls? For xm or radio?
Pressing the left/right keys on the steering wheel should jump you between presets and a press and hold would seek
@@CarsWithSteve thanks, will try that. the issue I'm having is that it will only cycle presets on display it wont go to the other presets.
@@alexordonez6494 hah I'm scratching my head on that now too. Next time I'm in a Mustang I'll have a look and see if there's a work around
Does the 2016 mustang have this same android auto functionality or is it less? The vids I’ve seen looks like less app options
Less functionality in the previous gen Mustang.. There are some aftermarket Sync3 upgrades but you're looking 2-3k to do it..
@@CarsWithSteve I found a kit online for 750. If i do myself that isn't too bad
That's not bad at all! eBay find?
U gotta update the system using a laptop and flash drive, download the files and install them in the car, then you’ll have to upgrade the usb port that is in the arm rest (don’t get the 2 port) after that you’ll have the system running.
There is a video that explains it really well, good luck
@DONIK-qy9pc do you have the link to that video you mentioned?
I have a 2019 mustang gt premium, android phone. It shows Apple car play, but not android auto. Please help me. Also whenever it connects my phone via Bluetooth. It connects for my phone calls but not audio. I have to manually click it every time
That happens sometimes when a phone without Android Auto hasn't been connected yet. Just hook up over USB and then you should be able to connect to Android Auto. Make sure that your phone is up to date. If it's not connecting try this:
1. Delete your phone from your vehicle and vehicle connection from your phone
2. Reconnect over USB which should launch A/A
If that doesn't work then replace the USB cable with a factory original, I find that 3rd party USB cables don't always work properly to transfer data.
Audio would make sense because it would default to the last available source. If your phone isn't connected right away it would default to something else..
@@CarsWithSteve this solved my issue! Thank you so much! Just subscribed!
awesome, glad it worked!
@@CarsWithSteve having same problem, when I connect my Samsung Google Maps is displaying only for 2 seconds and then just quit. No other android app can also be opened. Already tried 2 different cords...
Does this work for 2021 and 2020 gt500
It does! I should update the title
Is it only wired CarPlay and Android Auto? Is there a wireless option.
Wired only for the Sync3 system unfortunately
Can you use apple car play without connecting to the usb?
I wish, wireless CarPlay and Android Auto are most likely coming to the 2024 Mustang when it gets the refresh
Great vid. That is so annoying that we can’t wirelessly connect though. I’m surprised we don’t have that tech :(
When I connect my phone with the usb, the car play option doesn’t pop up? I cannot find a way to set it up
Assuming you have this screen in your Mustang there are a few things that you can try:
1. Delete the phone connection from the vehicle and the vehicle's connection from the phone's bluetooth and from Settings --> General --> CarPlay
2. Re-connect the phone over USB
If that doesn't work, try to reset the screen by pressing and holding the power button in the center under the screen along with the right seek button for 5-10 seconds. The screen should turn off and then reboot.
If that doesn't work, replace the USB cable. Sometimes 3rd party cables don't support data transfer
@@CarsWithSteve definitely was the cable, thank you pookie
anytime ;)
Will these directions also help me connect to a 2022 Ford F-250?
