A 52-year-old lady had Asian double eyelid surgery done over 10 years ago, but she is not happy with the way her right inner corner folds differently than the left. The doctor she consulted says it is her epicanthal fold (the web of skin in the inner corner of the eyes common in Asians), and additional surgical correction can’t be done. She asks if there is any possibility for revision surgery.
New York oculofacial plastic surgeon Dr. Amiya Prasad explains in this video what the epicanthal fold is, the different types of epicanthal folds, different types of eyelid creases, and the factors of anatomy and previous surgery that affects the options for revision surgery:
1:26 - Dr. Prasad’s credentials and Asian eyelid surgery experience
1:47 - Defining the epicanthal fold
2:20 - Types and shapes of epicanthal folds
2:43 - Types of eyelid creases in relation to the epicanthal fold
3:26 - A natural eyelid crease flowing into the epicanthal fold
3:37 - Shortage of skin limiting the creation matching epicanthal folds on both eyes
3:46 - Popularity of a crease going past the epicanthal fold
3:56 - Why having no previous surgery makes customizing an epicanthal fold easier
4:08 - Types of eyelid creases created by Asian eyelid surgery
4:35 - Creating an eyelid crease without removing any skin
5:11 - Possibilities and risks of surgical correction of the epicanthal fold

when you want an epicanthic fold and someone going to get rid of it... if eyes do not hide full in the epicanthic fold it is beautiful for me and I love it

do you think if i got a eyelid fat and skin graft then let that heal up and then went in for a procedure to create a epicanthic fold they could do it ?

      Hi Soggy Cactus,
That's not going to work as epicanthal folds cannot be created for eyes that don't naturally have them. I hope this clarifies things for you.

      Hi Saifuation Plays,
There are risks to epicanthoplasty surgery, as explained in the video. Risks need to be discussed with your chosen surgeon before you commit to surgery. I hope this helps you.

      Hi@@saifk.4959,
You can refer to these videos about treating hooded eyes, and the risks involved in this type of surgery. For specific recommendations about your case, a consultation is needed (with a consultation fee that can be applied to the cost of treatment) which can also be done on Skype or FaceTime:
