I got my beautiful thick, soft orange and purple shawl in the mail yesterday. I love it!❤
If you want candles in your fireplace, you will need a cascading effect, longer in the back and shorter in the front. You can go up to three rows, but no more. That said, you should do what looks good to you. This is a common practice in US, and works year round and not just during winter.

Oh Elise, you showed that thrift shop, I think Zirkel, they had a bunch of Bjorn Winblad black and white plates! Oh my god! I collect them. I wanted to jump thru the screen ✌️🇩🇰
Beautiful arrangements and decor. I was just scared that your clothes could catch on fire when you lit the fire place because it seems to be polyester or some kind of acetate fabric? be very careful when you use that combustible and have long polyester sleeves. It's highly flammable.
I think that the best scene in the video was your kitchen and the warm glow that came from the lights as you cooked in the dark,; the candlelabras and the view of the lights from the garden really made it special! The first Christmas supply/thrift store was so cozy and inviting, unlike many of the "big box" stores, here, in the USA. I would love to see some of the fresh cut greenery from your backyard placed across the top of your fireplace mantle. That would be awesome!

Elise I think you should get that large mirror you saw and hang it above your fireplace. I think it would make it look so grand and beautiful!
Why didn't you get an electric fireplace.? It would have looked so much more natural, and you would have had the option of just putting the glow on instead of the heat? Your living room is nice , but a bit blah, you need more color in there ☹️.

Maybe because in cold countries(cold winters) electric "fireplaces" are useless, in a power failure for instance which are more frequent in colder and snowy climate.@@suzyq325

The fireplace really makes your living room look like a living room. If you had some battery operated lights, you could put them into the garland. I thought it was a brilliant idea to use some tree prunings in place of a tree.
I don't feel at all Christmassy yet, I havent wriiten any cards nor put up any decorations. I will probably put a garland on my fireplace and decorate the stair bannister before next week. Seeing your decorations is giving me some inspiration. I have a fake tree with built in lights that looks real so I shall probably put that up and to make the house smell like Christmas, I will put a pine air freshener in the bathroom and the smell wafts around my house and you would think that I have a real tree lol.

I live here near Amsterdam, where it's also getting cold, but not quite as cold as it is there in Denmark, where I happily spent a couple of months in 2014. My sister, who lives in California, told me about your channel. She thought I would so appreciate you and what you share, as she knows how much I love fashion, style, creativity, home, textiles, beauty and second hand shopping. I grew up in NY. My father was in the fashion/textile business, and while I never went into it (waaaaaaay too crazy, competitive for me, AND I had no self-confidence), I do LOVE beauty in all forms, and have been a creative, second hand shopper and dresser since forever, it feels. I appreciate your creativity, soft voice, calm energy, adaptability, positivity, resourcefulness, compassion, kindness, grateful nature, empathy, courage, sense of style, love of nature, gift for connecting with yourself, others and the earth, your passion and gift for second hand shopping, and red hair. I was a red head, my mother is still a red head (she's 90), and my dad's mom was a redhead. When I see your gorgeous hair, I miss mine, but I also am doing my best to accept the grey and different texture. The vanity in the thrift shop (makeup desk) looks strikingly similar to mine. It's been in my family for 4 generations of women now.
I believe the logs in your fireplace are made of ceramic so they won't get burnt and they're meant to hide the flame canister. It looks so pretty lit up! But you didn't look pleased -- if for some reason you don't like it, they make special candle stands that fit inside the fireplace.🔥

The fireplace is so pretty...I have a real fireplace but I got tired of cleaning it out so I had it capped off and have electric logs that put out heat ☺️. If available you might want to get long matchsticks to light it.
Or get an electric fireplace? We have one and it has cut our heating way back.

I use battery operated candles in my fireplace that I got from Amazon. They look real, and I can use the remote that came with it to turn them off and on. My fireplace is the most beautiful feature in my 1921 home, but I can no longer use it safely to burn wood. I love the glow of the candles, and they were not too expensive either. They are actually made of wax, and the part that glows flickers like a real candle.
I think I saw Magnolia garland in the background as you walked into the last shop. Nothing makes more sophicated fireplace Christmas decor than magnolia garland festooned with natural elements from the garden and iridescent white, gold or silver balls. Maybe they'll be on sale next week.

All you really need to do is just pull the pillows away from the window, just a little bit, making sure there is no contact from the pillows to the window. Problem solved.
Perhaps you can find some long matches for the fireplace lighting? I used to use them for lighting my propane grill when the "starter" died (before the replacement came in the mail). Everything looks so warm and cosy.❤💚
You should go back and get that mirror for over your fireplace!
Hi Elise: You can also put a bundle of twinkling Fairylights in the Fireplace instead of the burners for a cozy but safe atmosphere ✨️
Elise, how about a large basket for your pillows? Or a trunk of some sort? I love your fireplace!! You gave me an idea on how to use my gas fireplace that isn't working right now!! Your home is so cozy!
I recently heard that small dishes of salt on windowsills can help reduce the condensation/moisture buildup on windows. I’ve been concerned about your pillows against the windows since you put them there. Since you never mentioned having a problem, I thought your house must be extremely dry. I’m glad you discovered the damp pillows…hopefully in time to prevent mildew and mold. Fingers crossed!

The fireplace looks great❤ its always difficult to get decor that does not look fake. Look out for great deals after the season for next year. The tall white candles will look great on the fireplace
Elise, it all looks lovely! In summer, l hang a flower print above the fireplace, and a mirror to reflect candles and light in winter. Also, l keep a big wicker basket around for throw pillows. 🎄

Burning that fuel in the house with no chimney and no venting could be dangerous. I would install a CO detector at least. Do check that out ….

I agree, I cringed when considering how dangerous it might be if she accidentally spilled it and also inhaling those toxic fumes. Obviously I dont have a fireplace but if I did, I'd invest in one that has a panel that shows a real life interactive picture of a fire. Those are so cool!

Is there a piece of glass that goes in front of the fireplace after you light it ?? If not, I'd be so nervous using it. Any little thing that falls in there would catch fire.
Really enjoyed this vlogmas video loving your fireplace some greenery from your garden added to your garland and some fairy light would look really cool. Loved the thrifting that lamp with the glass shade was really lovely and a mirror over your fireplace would reflect the light . I thought that mirror at the shop was gorgeous! whether you use it for the fireplace or not ! I think (at this time of year especially) lights and mirrors really help with well being...
I'm loving the fireplace but wonder if a substitute for the fuel/fire mixture would suit you better. If I may suggest that a garland made of drape-y cypress would offset the strong masculine angles of the bricks in a more feminine way. I think a few decor tricks can customize what you have so you truly make it your own. Painting of the brickwork leads me to believe you lean to a more feminine decor.

TAKE A LARGE TOWEL AND WRAP YOUR PILLOW, PAT THEM DRY AND PLACE THEM AROUND YOUR HOME HOME, SO THEY CAN DRY NATURALLY, WITHOUT STAINING.
YOUR WINDOWS HAVE CONDENSATION.
I HAVE THAT PROBLEM.

Your comment about not decorating with faces brought me back to my teen years. I was visiting a friend’s house. Her mother loved clowns and this one room was covered with framed pictures of clowns-every wall, top to bottom! It was absolutely creepy!

Elise, just a thought … what if you moved the low white shelves by the long window to the long brick wall instead. Place your sofa against the glass window and side chairs plus the coffee table in front of sofa. Fireplace opposite across the brick wall! It might work out very nicely. The large gold mirror you found at the thrift store earlier would be nice if hung above the fireplace!! The fireplace needed something of the same scale to balance the visual weight. Nothing like trying! The balance of furniture placement can change the vibe, the feeling of the whole entire environment in your home. ❤❤❤

I love ❤️ it so cozy, wondering, have you tried scooting the coffee table over more to center of the rug and then bringing the sofa to where the front feet of it are on the rug. It will feel a lot more cozy and anchors the space better. I say it as interior designer. However I know you watch tv from the sofa so might not work unless you shift all of it over to the left. Give it a try!

i have THE best tip for getting rid of dry lips forever. you buy pure glycerin. and then you buy a spray bottle. and you mix water and glycerin. with a ratio of 1:6 and mostly water. glycerin will go deeeep into your skin and you will never get dry lips again. put some on your lips and lock it in with vaseline and boom. you will be amazed how quick it returns back to beautiful moist lips. :)
Body cream works perfectly.

Hi Elise! The decorations look Beautiful and warm and cozy! I have a couple of questions. Does the butane in the fireplace make the room smell weird and where did you get the 2 big ornaments above the fireplace? Love them! Enjoy this Holiday season!!❤
You might need a dehumidifier. I kept getting mould in my apartment. Never experienced it before. So I got a Meaco dehumidifier from Amazon. Cost me around £160 (British pounds) but gosh, it's so worth it. I no longer have damp windows or damp soft furnishings & I no longer find any unexpected patches of condensation mould hiding behind my furniture. It's lucky you found your window cushions in time. I've had to dump soooo many belongings because mould has ruined them x

Good morning Elise, lovely home decor. Does your fireplace give out any heat?
Mantle piece decorating is always trial and error, This year I have put 2 Victorian style street lamps, ( battery operated) not too big, alongside my various crystals it looks cheerful .
On my landing I have gone traditional Yule tide using pieces I have thrifted . It is a snow scene,artificial fir trees, pine cones I created a ski slope from various bits and covered it all in cotton wool to make it look like freshly fallen snow, a local charity I support is selling hand crafted pine cones decorated with small woolly hats and scarves, perched on little skies, these I have place on the makeshift ski slope. Small battery " bean" size lights illuminate the scene at night. I enjoy putting themed scenery together from recycled or household items, and foliage from my garden.

At a hardware store, you can buy a kit to add to your windows to stop drafts. Are your windows double pained? You get moisture like that from the steam of cooking or steam from the bathroom, traveling to the windows. Try setting up a small fan by your window ,pointed at the window. Also, definitely winterize your windows😊.
