Thanks, Lee, for interviewing possibly the most under-rated guitarists of all time, always understated and tasteful. A bonus that he turns out to be such a nice bloke as well!
The ending solo from Learning to Fly that he played on DSOT was absolutely amazing.
And on Another brick....his solo after David's its just....so defined...you hear David and his beautiful frazing...and then Tim kicks in in his own way, filling in notes....beautifuly diferent and...well...just beautiful.
Watched this great man so many times on The P.U.L.S.E DVD.
Thanks for inviting Tim. This man is one of my guitar heros
Dear Captain, thank you SOOOOOOOOO MUCH for this video! If I ever started to play guitar, I owe this to Tim Renwick! He changed my life! Heard everything he has recorded with Al Stewart. Tim is my very number one hero! Thank you!
The solo that Tim did in the Pulse version of Another Brick in the Wall Part 2 was something that I'll never forget. This man showed himself to be in David Gilmour's class. To do a standout solo on the same stage as David Gilmour just shows how insanely talented this man is.
What a splendid narrator Tim Renwick is. All these stories... Thx for the video and looking forward to Albert Lee!
I read "The Captain Meets Tim Renwick" and I screamed YESSSSSS just because ha was in PF live band and Iknew there would be some nice stories but had NOOOOO idea he had this much work done with all of those giants! Very nice chap.
Tim renwick ,one nice guy
Oh man, I could listen to Tim’s stories all day long, awesome guy who sounds like he’s had a great life
Always loved Tim Renwicks playing. Thanks Andertons.
One of my favorite guitarists! I love his work with Al Stewart. Great interview, it was really cool to listen to Tim talk.
Lovely to see Tim Renwick on the show. Been a fan of his ever since I saw him live with Quiver in the Strand Lyceum Ballroom in January 1971. He has played with practically all the major stars in the rock firmament, including Al Stewart, Mike & The Mechanics and, of course, Pink Floyd. His Dr Who moment on the Pulse DVD was a touch of genius. I highly recommend his solo album "Privateer". Great to see him still playing with the same brilliant touch after all this time.
G. V. Quinn Tim plays on that album.
His tour s with Eric in 84 and 85 are his BEST x me
What a total legend, complete musician and humble gentleman who can obviously play many other guitarists off the stage. He made that GG sing. 👌
Great seeing Tim on here. Like many others I'm sure, I first saw Tim on the 80's and 90's Pink Floyd live shows. As a young Gilmour fan, I always wondered how it must've felt playing onstage next to Davey G, how intimidating (or not) it was, what it was like playing a solo with him listening! I watched he DSoT and Pulse videos loads back in the day, and always saw Tim smiling and seemingly having the time of his life.
still waiting on the Captain meets Pete Honoré
All his guitar work on Al Stewart albums is exceptional and so memorable
That was mighty! What a legend and what a lovely man.
I saw Tim R first with Quiver at Queens University in 1972, he had the touch, simple strat’ and AC30, and a touch of echo … and followed his career ever since. So pleased to see this
What a nice fellow, with marvelous stories and a nice word for everyone. Tim was a great guest on Anderton's TV, and Lee you are such a great interviewer. It feels so much like friends hanging out chatting about music. Loved this one.
It could be great to see Snowy White or Guy Pratt at the Captain Show's
Well ... Mr Renwick takes me back.
Sutherland Bros and Quiver at the Old Union, Cardiff around 73 or 74 . Brilliant gig.
We were at the back and passed the doobry along and up onto the desk.
Their guys reciprocated and whatever they had blew our heads off !!!!
How I loved Quiver with Tim’s fantastic playing and Bruce Thomas’ jaw-dropping bass. I still remember hearing them at the Roundhouse and being taken by the heavy-lidded groove of Gone in the Morning, a real showcase for Tim’s inspiring fretwork. And when they teamed up with the Sutherlands for that lovely Dream Kid album, it was heaven. All the best to Tim!
Thank you Captain for this interview. Bought back very fond memories of Pink Floys’s Pulse concert in 1994.
Some fantastic playing by Tim in that show. Worth checking out his solo on “Learning to Fly” for those who havnt seen it. I literally played that video every night for about 4 months straight when it came out, inspired me to pick up the guitar again. Even went and bought a red strat with a maple neck because I wanted to be DG so bad.
Would of liked to have seen some more playing from Tim, he is all kinds of awesome with a strat.
Tim is a Picasso of guitar. A beautiful player. Every note is played heavenly.
Great to see such a legend at Anderton's! :D
He seems a genuinely nice and humourous person :)
Tim is one of those guitar players everyone has heard without knowing it - superb feel and impeccable taste, there is a reason the best employ his services. Year of The Cat, by Al Stewart featured Tim's guitar work also.
loved this, delightful chap, and the "life moment" right at the end was brill!
The best interview by far.
What a lovely bloke.
Just watched the intro to this video.... wow, amazing sounds guys, lovely! Rest of interview in cue to watch later. Good stuff I'm sure, especially as a fan of Floyd and Clapton! thanks Captain!
Thanks so much for all the amazing free content Lee!! 👌🙏👍🎸👊
I think Tim Recorded the funk guitar in the song shadow dancing (Andy Gibb), that's why I'm here discovering such an amazing player!
What a fabulous interview! Thank you so much for sharing Tim's tales. And for helping to shine the cold light of day on what is the reality of a touring/gun for hire musicians life.
Great to see Tim at Andertons. I've been a Tim fan since the Sutherland Brother's days. Went to see them 4 times. He has such a great strat sound. Tim and Ted Turner are my guitar heroes, very melodic. Every note played with passion. Tim reminds me of Danish Pete. Love to hear them play together. If you don't know Tim's guitar work then look it up you won't be dissaponted.
What a legend
Tims solos on Bricks 2 after Gilmour, and Learning to fly at PULSE and DSOT were incredible. For him to stand on the same stage as Gilmour and do that is mindblowing. Hes an amazing guy.
Tim, thank you for telling us stuff we'll otherwise never hear about. And Lee. great work! Best channel interview so far. It was so interesting and anecdote filled, I had to watch it twice.
Another brilliant Captain Meets. Absolutely loving these.
Another great interview. Loved it. Thanks Captain.
Such a good interview. He’s a brilliant guitar player
Whooo, a lot of Captain Meets in the past weeks! I love it! ♥ Please, try to get Rick Graham in there!
Ondrej Skivalkählisiin I wish I could give this comment a 100 likes just to upvote it
Rick Graham is too good for this channel
Briliant. I remembering hearing Tim for the first time on the Sutherland Brothers and Quiver album Reach for the sky.
Sublime playing, and heavily featured on that album. Thanks for some great interviews lately Captain,
In my teens, I spent hours and hours trying to learn all Tim's solo's on Sutherland brothers and Quiver's Reach for the sky album! He's still got that wonderful touch ;0D
the touring "hired gun" musicians are the unsung heroes of the world, they've saved many famous bands that would've otherwise collapsed or lost their record deals for not being able to fulfill their obligations or promote new albums !!!
Nic White Very well said sir.
Lee... you're great at these... always enjoyable...what a career, and a great guy.
Enjoyed this immensely ... my favourite work of his is on Rick Wright's "Broken China" album... he really shines on it.
BRILLIANT! What a lovely, lovely man!
That was great ! Thank you Lee 👍🏻
what a really nice bloke.Another great interview Lee,well done.I love this series!
Wow, I loved it.
Seeing him play, and then some floyd’s stuffs, I loved it.
I’m a big fan of his playing style and work.
Greetings from Chile.
The Capt is 'right on' about that Delicate Sounds of Thunder tour. I saw it twice in LA and it was the absolute BEST rock show I've ever seen. Absolutely mind blowing actually!
Congrats to Mr. Renwick for being part of that great tour.
What a great interview, Tim Renwick is a fascinating guy. I remember him from Pink Floyd concert on video, think it was Pulse and he let rip with a staggering guitar solo...another brick in the wall pt 2.
What a brilliant interview! Fascinating guy. For an hour long episode the time went scarily quick.
Great stuff, will never forgot the Pink Floyd gigs from the 80's and 90's. Thanks for this excellent interview.
fabulous content thank you
Year of the Cat. Beautiful
Tim Renwick is fantastic , very nice to see him here.
lovely interview and fascinating stories from Tim. do like those Gray guitars too.
Such an amazing player and a very nice guy. Love his stuff with Pink Floyd
Same for me. Best live version of their stuff, made me a massive fan. That version of comfortably numb with the opening light cluster was phenomenal, on the turning away was awesome as well.
Another song worth checking out , Tim plays on, by Elton , a song called “madness”. Tim shines, Elton rocks etc. Tim toured with Elton in 1980. for some great footage check out Elton’s 1980 Central Park concert. I say more next post.
Thank you for this !
Wonderful. Total legend.
A great reminder of how valuable humility is, very inspiring to listen to, write the book ;)
Really enjoying hearing his stories, sounds like quite a life
Love the captains restrained gushing.😉. Mr Renwick is a very humble guy. And what a player.Old school.
Brilliant. I've got Tim's old Rivera M60, totally amazing amp. I wish it could make me sound as good as he does!
Dang Lee. Sometimes I just want to be you. Great interview and, obviously, a bucket list moment. Wow! I can only dream.
Fascinating guy, been a fan for years, a lot of classy players came from that era 👌👌
59:49 The definition of tasteful 👌
Captain's guitar is such a beauty
Probably best interview guest I’ve seen on here
I am a fellow Guitarist / Radio Luxembourg under the covers listener from way back - I thought I was the only one who did that, great stuff :)
Always remember him playing onstage at the Pink Floyd reunion at Live8. How amazing that must have been!!!!
Lee! Great to hear about Grey guitars and the use of English woods. I hardly ever shout on the internet but -PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE get Rosie Heydenrych of Turnstone Guitars on. She does the same thing with acoustics - sycamore, fenland bog oak, London Plane, larch! They sound amazing, and she is a great person to talk to. I'm an amateur maker and wanted to make an all English wood acoustic for a friend's 65th, and she was so kind and helpful to me when I contacted her, even though I could never afford one of hers and she knew that. So generous of her time and skill, and the guitars are stunning.
The opening jam was one of the best I've ever seen on here. The note choice and feel was wonderful. Beautiful melody instead of flash and speed.
The Libertarian Tim is one of the most melodic guitarists. Listen to the solos on year of the cat. Sublime
Wonderful touch !!
Tim's stuff with Paul Carrack was great!
Tim on al Stewart s album s perfection.
Great dude…great interview!!
Fantastic video!!
So good to hear Tim still playing... Says another refugee from the late sixties. Pete.
That opening gave me shivers
That was stupendous - Captain you have a very disarming, but killer interview technique that relaxes your guests and gets the best from them. atb. snack.
Absolutely loved One Foot in the Grave.
Great interview, lovely chap. How about the Captain meets Dave Simpson a fantastic RUclipsr and all round great character.
What a charming, interesting man. Great interview.
What a nice man he is!
Amazing!! He needs to come back at some point!
Great stuff!
Good interview, man.
great interview Lee
Saw him back in the day with Sutherland brothers. superb player and the Sutherlands were a great band great songs.
Great interview. Just watched Claptons gig at live aid. Funny, how perception changes. Then, being a metal head and all into EvH and Yngwie, I couldn't care less about EC and the likes. Today... mmh, I really appreciate all those great players / bands from all decades. I guess that is what they call 'developing taste'. Or something like that. Cheers!
I know you give yourself a hard time about your lead playing and soloing Captain, but....and I've thought this for some time....you ste the best rhythm guitar player on the whole channel!! 👍
Always been a massive fan of Tim's work.
His soloing on Al Stewart's "Lord Grenville", from note choice to dynamics to tone, is simply outstanding.
I'd love to know what rig he recorded through on that track & YOTC.
Lord Grenville is fantastic! Check out Modern times if you're not familiar, by far my favorite solo of his.. also really like almost Lucy and life in dark water.. believe I read he was using a fender pro reverb around that time and a 59 Bassman, he's also a pedal guy, from delays to compressors and things and usually a strat.
Memories from 1970 staying in Ladbroke Grove with Quiver and seeing them play at the Isle of Wight backing up Tiny Tim. Those were the days.
Nice guy. I bet that would be a hell of a book!
That is a beautiful sounding and looking strat style guitar (with an excellent player behind it). Quilted headstock is nice.
I can't figure out what brand the guitars are. Anyone know?
Dr Who moment on Pulse.....hilarious ! fantastic !
