    I was able to fix my trimmer following this simple video, had to take it apart and 'un-bind' the gear but it was really easy. Took less than 20 minutes but had to watch it a few times as I was trying to un-bind the gear. Thanks for taking time to make this video, would have never figured out how to repair it (saving me ~$140 to buy a new new trimmer).

    I put off getting this fixed for too long, didn’t think to check YT until today- quick and simple fix banging on the ground…thank you for sharing this tip!

    Thank you for taking the time to show this repair. I lost about 1 hr of time in trimming, but was lucky enough to find your video and I'm back in the yard doing my work.

    A few taps on the end as shown in the first 30 seconds of this video did the trick for me. Big thumbs up for Alden... Thank you. Now I don't need to slice another extension cord using my old fallback trimmer next week.
    Audience; You can read further, but be forewarned that I'm just complaining about Greenworks lack of support. 🙂
    I wish I would have found this video before spending 4 separate 30+ minute hold sessions, in vain, waiting for Greenworks "Support" to answer the phone, well within business hours. Seriously, why have a support line in the first place?... They tell you the whole time they have you on hold that they are going to answer, and they clearly have zero intention of ever answering... so the whole time you're on hold they're lying to you.
    So, fallback to the online "support", which is ridiculous... 2 and a half hours spent between hold-time and online support attempts, yet not a single suggestion as to how to remedy the problem, or so much as check on warranty status... ..... .... Seems they at least could have suggested what is shown in the first 30 seconds of this video,... that obviously was simple enough...
    So essentially, I just worked 25% of a Greenworks support agent's shift and received no compensation for it or benefit at all for it, undoubtedly because they have chosen to 'save money' by shifting to an exclusively online support model, mostly run by a non-sentient robot that is unlikely to ever be able to solve any issues.
    Might have to check out a different brand when the time comes.

    Thank you. Great video. Easy repair....method 1. You can hear the gear click into place. I used a block of wood and jammed it down with a bit of force. Now it works. Good advice about watching the size of the limb to be cut. Additionally, watch the dead, dry limbs...they are often harder than a living limb.

    Thank you so much. I logged in just to say thank you. All of the similar videos were not effective. You pinpointed the problem in less than a minute except I lightly tapped the first blades on the edge with a claw hammer. I noticed the blade position shifted so I fired it up and it worked. As the motor powered the blades I seen a tiny twig fly out. That small particle jammed the blades. The first solution was all I needed. Like and subscribe well earned.👍👍

    Great video however, before taking apart the hedge trimmer, carefully inspect the blades to see if there are any nicks which have rolled over onto the blade and are preventing the blades from sliding back-and-forth over each other and lock up.
    If you find that to be the case, simply file down the nicked blade. That may solve your problem.

    • @DJBelbe
      @DJBelbe 3 года назад +1

      Yeah, i found out this was the problem 99% of the time: metal is too soft and nicks and bends easy

    • @billsimpson3539
      @billsimpson3539 3 года назад +1

      That turned out to be my problem, but it definitely wasn't obvious. Only after taking it apart and still having it move slightly like it did before did I notice a small nick in one of the blades. Just enough to catch and keep it from moving as it should. Thanks Alden for taking the time to provide this useful info!

    Look for a bent tooth blade blocking the trim action before doing anything lol. I tapped mine, still jammed so was prepared to disassemble but decided to look at the teeth first. At the end was a bent blade. I secured the blades w a cloth/and wore a glove so I didn't get sliced and slowly, w vice grips to bent it back out of the way and it now works great be again.

    Great video. Had to open the gear box and release gear per method 2. There's one more bushing that came out of gearbox. Wasn't sure which gear shaft it goes on, but put it on the smaller drive gear shaft.

    Great vid, thx. The blades on my GW pole hedge trimmer are worn out. I’ve sharpened the moving/cutting parts but the anvils are badly worn and can’t be fixed, so the cutting action isn’t clean. Unfortunately, GW don’t seem to supply replacement blades. Are you aware of any other blades which would fit?

    Hi I bought one in Australia, in here they sale as Victa not Greenworks. All their 40v units has been discontinued, I got my really cheap with another 4 tools as a bundle. I have no problem with other 4 tools, and they are really good. but this hedge trimmer....... I have the motor failure on me on the first 5 min of use. Both motor brush springs broken off in middle that I found a new 6vdc 775 type DC motor and swapped the brush unit with my 40v motor, it works for 20 minutes and got Jammed and had gear box out many times in few hours of use. I found the cause of the blade pop out from their spot was the retaining plate under the gear assembly, it was fastened by press into the gear. Turn it to otherside you can see 4 holes on the gear, there are two have a pin inside. Due to it was pressed in that got loosen everytime the blade pop out. To fix it forever. First put your blades in the right spot and free of turning then use a press to press the retaining plate in or vice if you don't have a press, Next weld the two pins with the gear from the holes, grind off the weld to make it flat. the hedge trimmer become a really capable tool now that I haven't had jam blades from this fix with some of good size cuts and with those blade angle design that I don't think it will got jammed by cutting thick sticks. Hope this method will help you to fix for all.

    Another tip is to loosen the nuts and bolts holding the 2 blades together and then see if this unjams it - it worked with mine where your 2 methods unfortunately didn’t. Admittedly mine was the articulated pole trimmer.
