We are in the Shoot Era of wrestling. The content of promos, the use of social media to start angles and stories, podcasts fully pulling back the curtain, talent jumping to other promotions more frequently. Everything is a worked shoot or a straight shoot. Talent isn't afraid to simply say "I don't like them for real." The pivotal moment(s) were CM Punk returning to wrestling, immediately followed by Cody returning to WWE and the loud opinions that not only came from that, but the wrestling angles (and real life scenarios) that developed due to that short period like "Finish the Story" and the backstage incidents in AEW.
@nomercy4life The wrestling isn't a shoot, just the business of it. I don't think anyone ever asked Hogan in the 80's if he really didn't like Roddy Piper - a lot of the backstage stuff from the last 40 years has come out in the last 10 years. But today, we know in real time who has a problem with who, contract details, reasons for leaving/firing, etc. It's becoming more rare to hear a promo commenting on something in-story, like "you attacked me last week" and instead there's a lot more references to comments on podcasts and social media posts where it is closer to a shoot than a written angle.

The TLC match was by far the biggest spectacle. I stopped watching afterward and started watching recently money in the wrestlemania 39 and money in the bank 2023. Sure feels good hearing you both say 17 was the best because I don’t want anyone thinking I’m a “homer” lol

You’re either delusional or just naive to executives’ inability to say no to the Rock’s ideas regardless of what they already had planned. The tag match literally doesn’t even need to happen Cody could just face Roman and Seth vs Drew and that’s that but Rocky’s contract in joining the board had an obligation for him to wrestle at this year’s mania. I think broadly you could define wrestling into kayfabe and post kayfabe eras. Up until the mid to the 90s, most people watched a match for the story and wanted to see their fave wrestlers kick the heels ass, they didn't care about the moves, it was the story that was being told in the ring. Post attitude era, most fans are just interested in the moves that happen in the match. Thus, they look back on the kayfabe era matches and think they are boring. It's interesting that when a story like Cody's or the bloodline storyline actually makes people forget about the moves in the ring, as they are invested in the story being told.
When they talk about Cody signing and taking pics with fans I’ll agree I sat there and saw this man for 20 mins after raw spend time with the fans ! So I can say they were right with this one
Im sitting here realizing Ive been consistently watching both You and Sam for the last 10 years. Im damn near 30 now. Even when I wasn’t watching the product(Sorry Sam) I would still listen to the interviews. This just feels like im sitting at the table with my wrestling friends
What a great conversation. I pretty much agree with most of what was discussed. Now that we can finally call it pro wrestling again, now that Vince doesn't have his dirty mitts involved, WWE is on a roll. I do think though that while the whole Bloodline storyline and Cody etc has been great, like with other eras, some of the other lesser story lines are a bit lame. They dont seem to have much storyline wise for some really talented wrestlers...like I think they've dropped the ball a bit with LA Knight and someone like Chad Gable is under utilised.
I love all the CVV's interviews but I really don't like the podcast trend of showing all the interesting questions and their answers at the beginning of the video.
As a decades-long fan of both pro wrestling and MMA, I think TKO buying the companies really helped the community. I still meet a lot of MMA fans who hate wrestling bc “it’s fake” but most MMA fans aren’t like that imo. But now since the same holding group owns both it’s cool to see them at each other’s events and all. It’s just weird bc wrestling fans don’t hate MMA guys until they get made fun of for liking scripted fights.
After years of "no long-term storytelling" we have gotten: The Bloodline, universally praised as one of the best wrestling STORYlines. Cody Rhodes trying to finish his STORY. Gunther's STORY of becoming the greatest IC champion of all-time. The multitude of STORIES coming from Judgement Day. And a plethora of others (Damage CTRL, Sami Zayn, and on and on and on). This is... The Story Era.
I gotta disagree. The story became about beating Roman the day he cut that promo saying that he was the son Dusty always wanted and finishing with "If theres anything your father didnt teach you, i will." THAT was the moment it went from a story about winning a championship to a story about winning the championship from the guy who's had a chokehold on the industry for nearly 5 years.
So I'm 31 and stopped watching each week WWE properly around 2005 but slowly started following it more last 10 years however since the Sami/Bloodline story around Oct 2022 I get up each Saturday for Santizaps watch alongs and Tues for RAW
Hey, one of those new fans Sam was talking about. Why is Birmingham so important for wrestling history? I think I remember hearing that Birmingham is where one of the go-to surgeons is for wrestlers but I’m assuming there’s more to it?
Welcome to this wild ride as a new fan! And you nailed it, Dr. James Andrews who is based in Birmingham, AL is the surgeon that does most of the WWE surgeries.
I'm a new fan. I've been following the past few years through youtube (stuff like Wrestletalk's Monday Night Wars gaming series and some video essays). I started watching around the Royal Rumble this year and it's fun! Now me and a friend I also got into it (though even more casually than me) are going to see WWE when they come to the Netherlands! A tiny bit sad that Cody won't be there (I mean, he's not confirmed for the european tour, no chance he'll only do some shows right?), but I'll be happy to see LA Knight, Kevin Owens and Bianca Belair!
With WWE, we've all been conditioned for short stories & being let down. It'll take a while for us to rewire our brains. My only concern is that there will ONLY be long term storylines which can be tedious- need to pepper in some instant gratification as that's the way the world is programmed today. Great time to be a fan.

What´s the Haps, Sam Roberts?! Great Episode, two of the greatest who ever did it! 🤙
what a blessing to watch you too. thank you CVV and notSam xx
Oh my days yes! These two linking up is pure magic
These are the GOATS of interviews in Professional Wrestling. Now we need NotSam to interview CVV in his studio
Awesome interview Chris
I love all the CVV's interviews but I really don't like the podcast trend of showing all the interesting questions and their answers at the beginning of the video.
As a decades-long fan of both pro wrestling and MMA, I think TKO buying the companies really helped the community. I still meet a lot of MMA fans who hate wrestling bc “it’s fake” but most MMA fans aren’t like that imo. But now since the same holding group owns both it’s cool to see them at each other’s events and all. It’s just weird bc wrestling fans don’t hate MMA guys until they get made fun of for liking scripted fights.
We need a regularly scheduled podcast with Sam and one with Maven.
I’m enjoying this episode 🎉
After years of "no long-term storytelling" we have gotten:
The Bloodline, universally praised as one of the best wrestling STORYlines.
I would pay to listen to these two as co-hosts every week
Hey, one of those new fans Sam was talking about. Why is Birmingham so important for wrestling history? I think I remember hearing that Birmingham is where one of the go-to surgeons is for wrestlers but I’m assuming there’s more to it?
Welcome to this wild ride as a new fan! And you nailed it, Dr. James Andrews who is based in Birmingham, AL is the surgeon that does most of the WWE surgeries.
Gonna watch this one now Sam is awesome and you CVV is awesome
On the mention of best movies featuring wrestlers; how could yall not mention They Live? Its a classic
Bring back Than and Sam
I'm a new fan. I've been following the past few years through youtube (stuff like Wrestletalk's Monday Night Wars gaming series and some video essays). I started watching around the Royal Rumble this year and it's fun! Now me and a friend I also got into it (though even more casually than me) are going to see WWE when they come to the Netherlands! A tiny bit sad that Cody won't be there (I mean, he's not confirmed for the european tour, no chance he'll only do some shows right?), but I'll be happy to see LA Knight, Kevin Owens and Bianca Belair!
Wonder if the binge style of consuming content adds the fervor over decisions because of the wait between episodes
Coming here to say i think its time you have a chat on cam with Fit Finlay!
Self care IS productive brother
16:10 - To be fair, I felt and still feel the same about GUNTHER. If he retains.... success.
I didn’t know I needed this 😭😭😭😭❤️
