Feeding my Texas Alligator Lizard a Grasshopper (Best with Headphones)

- My adult female Texas alligator lizard (Gerrhonotus infernalis) takes a fresh-caught grasshopper. This species of lizard is absolutely killer and their hunting behaviors always astonish me. Tried to get some angles in this clip that convey just how terrifying it would be for you to be the size of the bug.
Feeding wild insects comes with the risks of parasites and exposure to unknown pesticides and chemicals. If you're collecting wild feeder insects always do so in an area with a healthy population where you know no pesticides or chemicals have been sprayed.

Grasshopper: If I don't move, maybe he won't- *nom*
I love how it just stares the cricket down for a good while like... "Look, we both know why we're here... Just stay still I'll be quick"
That little nest it has is freaking awesome looks like a little dragon
It's a native species of tillandsia called "ball moss," they encounter it all the time in the wild
So pretty, so fast. I thought I was watching a Geiko commercial and then, bam a cricket disappeared. LOL
Keep up the great work Daniel... Your animals always look great and very well taken care of.

But seriously, dang that's a pretty Abronia!
Edit: read the replies to this comment because I got the classification of this species wrong
She is a Gerrhonotus infernalis rather than an Abronia but she looks way more like one than most US alligator lizard species. Texans are just as awesome as Abronia in many regards, semi-arboreal, super long prehensile tails, generally chill, awesome hunting behavior. Thank you!
AfroHerpkeeper thanks for the information. I'm always striving to learn more about incredible animals like these. I'll have to do some more research about the Gerrhonotus genus. Thanks!
This little dude is so cool! can u do a setup vid plz
Excellent video. Beautiful animal ! Thanks for sharing this .
Crunchy 😉
Alao didn’t know we had any native alligator lizards here, good to know
I love the lizard hunting wiggle I allways found that so cute
Do they have totally stereoscopic vision? I'm assuming she's swaying back and forth eeeeever so slightly so she can pinpoint the premium strike distance
She’s the only alligator lizard I find, not scary, dope video!
What insects have you had luck getting them to eat? Mine do not like worms
I usually give mine diet pepsi with a Ghopper
every summer i go catch grasshoppers for my geckos and they absolutely love them.
Did you catch the grasshopper
Do you have any info on care for keeping this particular one. I just caught one today and set up its environment snd I want to make sure my parameters are correct but all the alligator lizard info I can find are for central American ones.
How is she doing? How is her care different from a southern alligator lizard?
That's a cool lizard not very common, how big is he/she? and how old is he/she?
How cute is that thing. What's the plant with it? I want one of those cute looking albino skink guys so badd now
RIP Mr. Grasshopper
Its dinner time
Grasshopper: ah fuck-- *cronch*
I caught a baby today in central TX! Crazy cool species to admire
hes so cute i want to die :)
Very beautiful lizard
damn, it makes me jump every time... I love these little monsters.
I love how them little dudes stare down their prey right before they grab it..lol
😂coffln
The goofer made a nom
What a gorgeous baby you have there! He’s so majestic!
HIUMANS EYES
That's so cool
Man that was fast. Awesome feeding video 👍
Will it get big?
Excellent
Cromnch
cromchy
That’s one smart lizard right there
Why don't you feed this lizard?
He just did.
I just got my California alligator lizard yesterday and on the first day he took superworms like a champ. Have you been bitten by them before?
Great video man! Reptiles always surprise me when you think you’re waiting for the prey to move just a little for a strike to happen but nope they own this contest and will strike unexpectedly.
How do I get my blue tongue skink to love me?
I try not to bother him so much but try my best to still interact with him. I don't hold him as much because he hisses and I get a little timid (I know they aren't known to bite but still have the capability to).
It's getting better because before he used to hide when I came into the room but now he doesn't mind relaxing in his enclosure near me (his enclosure is next to my favorite spot on the couch). He seems content and growing really fast. He digs all the time and likes to shift stuff around his enclosure.
For context: The only other reptile I have is a sassy turtle so I don't have any knowledge about lizards. I didn't just get one on a whim, I looked into getting one for a while and did my research. Watched videos and read about care.
What focus your Dragon has...pure magic!....the crunching of the crickets bones was a little icky for a first time watcher, but hey its the life cycle and we should admire it all. Great video footage.
Mexican standoff with a lizard and a grasshopper!
Thanks for another sweet video. Sure would like to see a video of your alligator lizard setups with commentary. Also a follow up video on your awesome gecko rack is over due 😎👍🏼
I’ve been binge watching your videos allll day, I hope u post an update about the water snakes soon!
"Watch with sound"
Why tho
So i can here the sound of running water or
Yeah, but also so you can hear him crunching the grasshopper
@@jamie91995 there's like no crunching tho! I demand more crunch
I can hear a little boom when he nabs it, like a shockwave
AfroHerpkeeper sounds like it’s just the force of him hitting it, but it sounds like he got the fleshier part where it doesn’t crunch as much
The cronch
*sigh* i wish my AL wasnt such a demon XD
Maintain the excellent job !! Lovin' it!
What’s the price range for one of these guys
Usually I see babies at around $150. Definitely look for captive bred babies, I don't want more people to start collecting this species. The main breeder I know is Austin Reptile Connection, would also be worth looking on kingsnake.com and faunaclassifieds.com
Oh with out a doubt looking for captive bread
That lizard and inclouser are awesome
I have a southern alligator lizard and he does the same thing 👍
Dude these are some gnarly shots 😆
What about the marine sneks
What about the sea snakes
She is beautiful!
Love the crunches!
Crunchy
Did you chill or keep that hopper in a plastic bag?
I can never keep em still.
I just run around outside with a fish-landing net looking like an idiot. I sneak up and slam the net down as precisely as I can, then grab through the net and put them in a jar. Once they're contained I'm just careful not to let them back out when I reach in to grab one. If you're catching your own feeders make sure it's in a pesticide free area and be sure to acknowledge the risk that you could introduce parasites. Parasites are naturally present in most animals and a moderate level isn't usually cause for alarm, it's only animals with other health problems that tend to get overrun by them.
Woah! What kind of insect is that beast??
grasshopper
Crunchy snack.
*CRONCH*
First like and first comment ayeee

In the hobby yes, in their habitat not yet, thankfully - but definitely at least uncommon and hard to find
