I want to encourage you to try something: Speak something normally, and then... SING something in the way you'd "normally" sing.
How does your speech voice differ from your singing voice? ...In tone ...In timbre ...In expressiveness? When you listen to Jack White talk, and then sing, there is a WORLD of difference. We can learn a TON from his approach in terms of diversifying our sound and create opportunities in our own voice for new tonal and range-related possibilities.
I would love to see a video of Jack White reacting to this. Something like "Jack White learns to sing like Jack White" xd
that would be amazing
HOW IS THIS CONTENT FREEEEEE?
REALLY APPRECIATE YOU SIR
You're so welcome! IF the free content is this good... Imagine how good my courses are! :)
His paid courses are seriously worth the money. I'm doing his "Discover Your Voice" course and and almost finished with it. My singing is head's and shoulders better than it was 4 or more months ago when I started. I like it enough that I'd offer to refund your money out of my own pocket, if that were feasible for me. I'm a singer by necessity and it's been great for me. If you're a singer at heart, I can pretty much guaranteed you'll do even better than I have been doing.
"while we are busy developing technique, they are busy creting art" theres a lot of songs of jack white that leave me impressed. your content is amazing yea,
This video makes me feel empowered to sing expressively, without constraint. Good work!
you teach like jack performs- fearlessly. love it
Chris's free course is really good but his invitation-only "Discover Your Voice" course is pretty amazing. For the first time in 35 years of singing/writing/recording/performing, I actually recorded a vocal a month or so ago that I like. Even a month later. Thank you Chris!
Same here. Chris is very talented instructor. He makes things make sense. Discover Your Voice and his aggressive vocals course are both worth the money.
Can confirm.
I can now listen to my voice on a recording and think "hey, that's not too bad!".
This is going to sound like blowing smoke, but it isn't - I have taken singing courses and had vocal lessons but I didn't make much progress. I have improved noticeably with Chris' course.
@@peteblackgrape Sometimes... I .... almost..... (gasp!).... LIKE my own voice....! (Shudders...)
Time for a nap! That confession took a lot out of me!
may I suggest Julian Casablancas from The Strokes? His voice is very different to Jack's but pretty unique!
You're killing me Chris! How are you getting so many of these style videos out so fast? It's making the quarantine so much more bearable. In Chris We Trust!
Really love this video. The white stripes were the first band to really get me motivated to learn guitar as a kid.
nice
One of the things I get attracted to your videos is that there are practicaly no edits.
Thanks for sharing this video. It's deep and wide... To break into better singing based on Jack White's style.
YES!
Me wanting to sing like Jack White for no apparent reason at 12 am.
Really helpful! Thank you Chris! Love from China
Jack Black next!
How to Sing Like Jack Black (Deceptive Rigga goo-goo, Perfect Mind-Bullets, Power to move you)
Yes, pleaseee! He is such a good singer, he has a great voice
And, much like Jack white, he wears the hat of lots of different characters on vocals
Man, I love how you are more unfettered in videos on RUclips than I am in the privacy of my home studio. It's inspirational!
Thanks a lot for this. This was very entertaining and a convincing analysis.
My pleasure!
i love that i can do all this without thinking so much
i think all this thinking would mess up my mimic-ability. But I still love that its so analytical.
dude. i love you. you are amaing.
You're a legend! I've always been afraid to put so much into my head voice and I think I've made a breakthrough thanks to you. Keep them coming!
Absolute favorite approach I’ve seen so far, and now with one of my favorite singers. Awesome!
I know nothing about vocal methods/singing and should never be allowed near a mic.. actually that was the exact words my band members used when i tried the mic that was forgotten by the drum kit by the previous band on stage. But this was a really interesting video! Great! Love his vocals. Thanks!
I hear I sound like him every show i play! Lol love it! Love him!
I'm a really big fan of Jack White and you with Middle 8 just made my week! Thanks!
Anyone else get a 30 days singer ad 😂 I do not recommend it. Chris has his own course which is cheaper and soooo much better with just 7 weeks I’ve learnt sooo much more than what I would’ve thought definitely worth the money if you have some to spare and want to learn how to sing I highly recommended his course you will not regret it.
I second this! The course is more than great and has made a huge difference for me - and I’ve been singing for more than 20 years (without ever taking lessons though). His other courses that continue to build upon Discover your voice are great too!
13:13, I mean the amounts to which you go over there to demonstrate - I am amazed... wow, thank you!
Really good insight into his way of singing! Grateful for this! Do Reignwolf next :D
Great suggestion!
you're such a master dude, thank you
Thanks Chris.
Josh Homme next!!
You're awesome! Thank you for this content! 😁
You're so welcome, great suggestion!
Another one for Josh
Thank you so much for all of these videos.
I've also followed "Discover your voice" and it makes me really improved my voice.
Now I'm gonna work on your pack "agressive vocals". I'm sure it will be very helpfull.
I think a new video of Jay Buchanan from Rival sons is a really good idea.
So glad! Gonna do Jay soon!
Yes! Just what i was looking for! Amazing content dude
Glad you enjoyed!
Great analysis, I would looove to see Till Lindemann from Rammstein in the future!
Great idea!
I would love to see a video of yours analysing Michael Jackson's voice. Not that I would ever try to sing like him, but I've always been curious about what he does. Keep up the excellent content!
An amazing video about an amazing singer
Please do a tutorial on how to sing like David Draiman. He's such an amazing vocalist. 🎤
you are excellent dude thanks for what you doin’
9min55 was clearly lot of fun. I like your videos. They are liberating.
extremely useful. thank you
Woah great vid. Breaks it down so well!
Id love to see a stevie ray vaughan one. Not that i sing i just think his voice didnt get enough praise as it was always outshined by his guitar playing
Hey Chris! Have you ever thought about doing one of these on Billy Corgan? His voice is so incredibly his own, and I’d like to see your analysis on him.
My personal favorite examples of his voice are on Gish and Siamese Dream, as it’s little less whiny and nasal as it is on Mellon Chollie.
I've thought about it! will most likely happen someday!
I was LITERALLY going to ask this! I think Billy Corgan is an important one because he was mocked in the early days of Pumpkins because of how nasally he sings - and, yet, now he's a pretty iconic voice with songs that are adored by everyone(seriously, who doesn't like 'Today' or 'Tonight, Tonight'?), nasally sound or not. I think he's a great example of overcoming what many may consider "embarrassing", as he's easily surpassed his critics.
His return with 'Zeitgeist' needs to be touched on as well as 'Gish' & 'Siamese Dream' - his voice really sounded great in the HEAVY rock they laid down on that album.
Also, the TSP album that influenced me most, 'Adore', also has some interesting vocals of note too.
...besides, Chris will then have covered my by far 3 greatest musical influences that have shaped everything I do in music - Chris Cornell(particularly Sound Garden & Audioslave), Trent Reznor, and Billy Corgan, these three & their groups provided me with a huge variety of sounds and styles in my early teens that just transformed the way I think about and understand music, the way I write, the sonics that I explore(, etc., etc.)
OMG Chris, thank you so much! I was eager for this to happen
You're so welcome!
Good advice Chris, would love to see vids on Jack Black and Gerard Way. Keep rockin!

Amazing contente. So glad I found you Chris!
I'm glad you found me too!
Damn, I can never listen to Jack again without imaging a crying baby, haha
hehe
Amazing insights!!! Thank You Chris I'm learning so much
You're very welcome!
Yesss! Thank you!
Loved this video, I have learnt lots.
So glad!
that video lowkey changed my life
I listened quick to Jack White “Lazaretto” that’s a cool song and I really love it. Your voice sounds very similar. I m a fan of “RIVAL Sons” sounds very similar. Saw them live already and loved “I’m electric ⚡️ “
LOVE Rival Sons!
@@chrisliepe Man I love your videos. Recently I received your free vocal course and it has helped me just as much as your videos. Thanks for the help. Have you thought about doing Bradley Nowell from Sublime? He's one of my favorites and has a very expressive voice. Especially on songs like 5446 thats my number and on Seed. Would be interesting to see him done. Thanks again.
@@chrisliepe I loved the show and took some photos. I would have to go through my album again. I once told you that I photograph a lot of concerts? Professional? Here's one of them from the Rival Sons singer
www.ninirockxphotography.com/Concert-Photos/i-FXLvptF/A
Amazing , thank you!
You're welcome!
Late to coming to this but I always wished I could sing like him and be a female version lol. Thanks! I love using my silly voice already for fun so this will be fun for some songs I've written and don't know what to do with haha
Fantastic lesson Chris!
you should check out Daniel Gildenlow from the band Pain of Salvation
especially the BE concert, or Live in Amsterdam
both those concerts are on youtube
and thank you so much for these videos
That's awesome. Never even thought about Jack White. I used to sing White Stripes a lot.
I really have to praise you. Great explanations. I actually practice these things with my coach. I changed my coach again. I went to New York for a while and had classes there. Paid a lot of money but something was missing. So now I am practicing various methods over Skype with my new coach. Very identical to the ones you are talking about here. And that also helps me a lot. It's just a shame that I don't find anyone like that in Real. So I have to keep working on Skype, but better than nothing. I had bronchitis. Coughed a lot. My last 2 singing lessons weren't the best. My next lesson is on Thursday, I hope it goes better. The advantage is that these coaches are also on stage. One of them sings metal. And that's really cool🤘🏻thanks for the video Chris💯🙏🏻
You're so welcome!
I really would love to see you break down Paul McCartney like this go from the Beatles to wings to now.
Great vid Chris....Please do one on Greg Lake
Seriously very cool informative content! I can’t imagine exploring the ranges of my voice in this way with the typical roommate / apartment neighbors above and below situation. I see a lot of screaming inside my car in my future.
YES... Cars and pillows help a lot!
How to Steve T.
So much fun. Your "blow out the candle" sequence, as well as most of the Love is Blindness section of the video, reminds me a lot of Jeff Buckley and I would love to see you cover any of his songs all the way through
That's a great idea to do some full Buckley songs!
I am crying laughing on Love is Blindness. Amazing.
Greeeeaaaatt !! :D Please look into Jay Buchanan, Singer of Rival Sons. I think that would be a great lessons to do. Check out the Face Of Light song, acoustic. Great stuff!
I'm so excited for this video! Long time watcher first time subscriber. I love Jack White but I couldn't sing like that before. 😃
Thanks for the sub!
No problem. I really enjoy your videos and your teaching style. I watched many of your videos before. How to sing with distortion and those types of videos. Always enjoyed watching you!
Chris you really need to do a part two looking at his softer tambre and some of the more garage band stuff.
Chris you should do Zila Kami, he’s got a very interesting distorted voice
Awsome video as usual Chris ! I'd love to see you breaking down the singing style of Howard Jones (ex singer of Killswitch Engage) someday :) Keep up the great work !
Oh mighty Chris, are you ever gonna do a video tour of your studio and your setup? Would be fun an interesting for all your viewers I think.
I actually did one early on in my channel: ruclips.net/video/SYQCSDqi_s4/видео.html
Minute 9:19😂I love you for that !!! You are too awesome !!!!
hehe
It is funny af but so so so so intresting and usefoul
Seeing this makes me wish you would do one on Will Wood! 🤍🖤🤍
Just blow the goddamn candle
Can you list songs you've used? I don't know some of them, but they sound really good.
Love is blindness, icky thump, Lazaretto, sixteen saltines
Good job! At 12:56 have a mix White/Bellamy😁
Please do a video on how to sing/scream like Ryan Kirby of Fit For A King!
Amazing.
Also, the 'role' of a crying baby is in tone with A LOT of the themes of White Stripes musics too.
DO you think it was a deliberate thing or one thing fed the other?
Great video, as always !!
Here are some ideas : first, the father of rock singing, Little Richard. And Robert Plant, Steven Tyler, Bon Scott/Brian Johnson,
Great ideas!
The pack A.D sound like jack white too
A slightly different edit of this would be the most savage roast of jack white ever. "You have to sing like a whiny cartoon baby"
Haha
Yeees!!/ thanks Chris
You're so welcome!
Hi Chris! please make a "how to sing like Joshua Kiszka" video!!!
What about Paul Banks from Interpol?
Is there a chance you could do a video on Mike Kerr from Royal Blood?
I want to try singing this but it's 5 am here in Australia and my neighbours would get some awakening! 😂😂😂 Love this video!!
Sing into the thickest pillow you own
+1 for pillows!!
😂😂😂 I'm worried my neighbours still might hear me. They're right across the wall. I really want to try singing this, I could have so much fun with this. I covered Jack White's songs on guitar but I never could sound like him. I actually converted this video with a RUclips converter and watched it on my big TV. 😁 I'm sure people wondered what the fuck I'm watching. 😀
Can you do one on Daniel Gildenlow.
Hell yeah! I'd have never clocked the similarities between Jack and say... Zack from Rage and that whole world. Mate... You're a wonderful comrade ✊ Thanks for what you're doing. Any chance of a little bit of Roger Daltrey some time?
Great idea!
@@chrisliepe The Art and Science of Swinging an SM58 by the Cable. Very important 😉
Do a video How to sing like Daniel Johns from Silverchair please!
We want video about James Brown! Alternative would be Lenny Kravitz.
Please do Shaun Morgan from Seether in one of your next videos. Incredible sounding distortion and thick cleans!
I agree! He's on the list for sure!
@@chrisliepe Great! You are the best vocal teacher on RUclips btw. Keep up the good work! :)
The thing I find so interesting is that my hunch is that Jack White never took any vocal training. He just does this stuff naturally. We study it and figure it out, but seems like he just does it! One could say the same about Ella Fitzgerald. I am pretty sure she never had a single lesson. Thankjs for these videos Chris . Like the person below already stated--how on earth are these free?
So glad you enjoyed! If these are free, imagine what''s in my courses :)
The key to think about is that they aren't trying to sound like someone else(even influences) - they're sounding like themselves. Build up the skills, the tools, then apply them to your own voice for your own ideas - don't try to sound like someone else you like, because they almost certainly weren't trying to sound like someone else when they recorded what you're listening to.
Too easy to get caught up in someone else's sound at the detriment of your own sound. After all, who wants to be notable for sounding like someone else when you could be notable for sounding unquestionably like "you", and only you...
Chris, please make a “How to Sing like Richie Kotzen” video! Please duuuuuuuuuuude
Great idea!
...dud dud do rurud, dud dud do rurud, New York New York
@@CeVillain new yoooooooooork
Jay Buchanan of Rival Sons please! ;)
I get in trouble for making those noises. being told that im making a noise and ask me why im so repetitive when practising lines.
Ha... Just tell them you'll be a way better singer in a few months :)
When I yell up I end up sounding like Roseanne and not Jack White 🤦🏼♀️🤣
Mike patton next! These videos are great
It would be awesome if you covered Jack Black from Tenacious D, School of Rock, ect. He is one of the most underrated rock singers alive. His voice is insane! Try to cover him if you can.
Edit: I just noticed that that Jack White is the literal opposite of Jack Black lol.
And they've started a project together, called Jack Grey... And I'm not even joking !
@@NikkGiant LMAO, actually?
@@miguelthekewlkid272 I read it in a magazine a few months ago. And there's this video : ruclips.net/video/sOace4JpbwI/видео.html
axl rose speaking voice is very low, but he sings quiet high, another example on what he was saying at the begining
would love a matt berninger of the national
Gotta do billy corgan after this lol
Great
Dani filth next please!!!!
