@@RRTS21 because its one of those things where you can know the recipe, but the technique is a major key. Andrew probably couldn't replicate his best attempt without the chef there unless he spent an insane amount of time practicing the technique
true, chef Yukimura has other videos sharing his techniques of how to make the omelet along with a easier way to warp the egg, yet still need a decent amount of time to practice to make the egg properly.
Thank you for letting the camera guy have a taste of the dish in this video. I think it's to let viewers know that they deserve to be included too. Without them, we won't be able to have a view of everything in the right focus. Camera guys are super underrated. Kudos to you!
Okay now I am officially obsessed with Chef Yukimura. He was so friendly and sweet and he had such kind eyes and a sweet smile. And I want to make this at home now but I just got back from the store with ingredients to replicate the Starbucks sous vide egg bites. so many choices.
So like. There's this nice moment I feel about this that feels very... youtube lore. > Japanese chef popularizes omurice on the internet > Andrew, interested, makes this for a youtube video > Japanese chef watches video, invites to Japan > They make this video together It's like. A satisfying arc and a story only possible due to the internet's far reaches. It's amazing.
OMG This chef is amazing!!! At first I was woah he's such a pro with those pan movements. I wasn't expecting that Bonus omurice, when he tossed the omelette onto the rice it explodes into omurice godness, my jaw dropped for real, AMAZING!
Oil, coat then pour out 100g chicken 100g onion 5g shimeji mushrooms 10 soy beans 8-10g butter 150g cooked day old rice Salt & pepper to season "Some" demi-glace Omlette: 3 eggs per person (beat & strained) Pinch of salt Ladle 180cc into pan Parsley to garnish
Went to eat at Kichi Kichi a few months ago, and Chef Motokichi was so sweet and welcoming! He had a great sense of humor and not only did I really enjoy the show he put on making the omurice, but the omurice itself was amazing. His restaurant deserves all the love and attention it gets!
Aldo Wijaya It's not crowded because their restaurant is very small (about 8-9 seats in total), so you have little chance of getting a seat unless you book 6 weeks in advance! Their restaurant has a booking system that I highly recommend you to use if you really do want to secure a seat. They do a lunch service and a dinner service and I personally think the dinner service is better. Hope you get to eat there!
ishipthatfishycouple alright thank you for your help!! So eager to meet this great chef, his personality is one of the thing that interest me in giving this restaurant a shot.. and one question about the reservation system, is there any other way to reserve a seat besides the one that they put on their website?? Or that is the only way??
No problem! I think the website reservation is the easiest and most convenient way for foreigners to reserve seats since it has English on the website. You could probably also call them, but I wouldn't recommend that since they didn't really speak much English, so you would need to know how to converse in Japanese before calling. That, and it'll probably cost you some money for the overseas call LOL.
I'm coming back to this months later and still impressed with Andrew's willingness to learn something fairly difficult in technique and learn it when your teacher doesn't speak your language... and I'm impressed with Chef Motokichi for being such a diligent teacher and never losing patience with his student... WHO DIDN'T SPEAK HIS LANGUAGE.
With practice comes technique. I'm not saying I could make this, but any experienced pro cook can make this. Just not with as much flair. The fried rice is just fried rice, just moist enough to hold together. The omelette is the classic french omelette, just with too much egg for the pan and seriously undercooked. The only reason a Chinatown chef wouldn't make this right the first time is just that they don't make omelettes that way. So the secret is tons of practice, which is why he can do the ending. Remember, 10K hours to become an expert at something.
I'm not even going to attempt this one. I can't bring myself to waste food so I would be eating dozen after dozen eggs in the form of failed omelettes. Some things are better left to the pros.
That's life summed up. You statement about 'any experienced pro cook' is false. ANYONE can make this; the only secret ingredient in being good at doing anything is PRACTICE. Do it so many times you feel like shit but continue doing it over and over; that's how you go from not being able to do something to being mediocre to then becoming a god at that certain thing. As you said 10,000 hours practice makes you professional, even more and you'll be a god at that.
He seems to be very kind while teaching. I’d be nervous and worried about making mistakes around other chefs, but he seems to be silly and supportive. I’d love to take classes with him as the instructor. And the end was TOO cool lol

Does he not get bored for keep making the same dish for years???
VOIZ CRACK the quest for perfection
i ate last year at his Restaurant and i gotta tell you tastewise its nothing special. But he is a great guy and his is very entertaining!
what's his channel?
his channel is ruclips.net/user/motokchi
OMG THIS WAS SO CUTE.
This chief is my favorite thing ever omfg I was smiling through the whole video 😍
He was so understanding and has so much patience ,he didnt get frustrated with Andrew one time. This is probably my favorite video by Buzzfeed.
This isn't BuzzFeed, it's Tasty.
Mr. Anonymous its like a subsidiary to Buzzfeed.
Lynn Ly Oh, ok. I kinda feeling it as a subsidiary though cause BuzzFeed's casts keep hosting this channel. Yeah, so thank you for telling me that.

Good thing about this man is that he never shy away from sharing his technique making his signature dish to others
I love that chef. He is so much fun!
i love the omelette more.

Okay I know it's nearly 5 years old but first comment

> Japanese chef popularizes omurice on the internet
> Andrew, interested, makes this for a youtube video
> Japanese chef watches video, invites to Japan
> They make this video together
It's like. A satisfying arc and a story only possible due to the internet's far reaches. It's amazing.
he also visited this chef for the Worth It episode for Buzzfeed
Which really closes the circle even better.
The Chef’s smile is so precious.
That chef needs his own channel!

Yea, is it crowded?? And what's the best time to go there?? I'm planning a trip to japan next month and would love to try this
Aldo Wijaya It's not crowded because their restaurant is very small (about 8-9 seats in total), so you have little chance of getting a seat unless you book 6 weeks in advance!

That, or he is drunk.
I watched this video 20 times but never gets old cause of the way the Chef teaches Andrew
And if either one was confused Rie was there to translate. The chef loves what he does he wants everyone to learn

PERFECT description!
TwilightIsLIfe4493
"I was hoping that there's a secret that I was missing for why I was doing so badly"
Why is this my life
With practice comes technique.
Some things are better left to the pros.
save the bad omelet attempts or give it to your neighbours lmao
That's life summed up. You statement about 'any experienced pro cook' is false. ANYONE can make this; the only secret ingredient in being good at doing anything is PRACTICE. Do it so many times you feel like shit but continue doing it over and over; that's how you go from not being able to do something to being mediocre to then becoming a god at that certain thing.
As you said 10,000 hours practice makes you professional, even more and you'll be a god at that.
im pretty sure it's: "10.000 hours to master something"
I can't wait to meet this guy when I go to Japan! Everyone has the best time with him in all these videos I have seen.
