A true icon of British television, let alone comedy. This man was hugely talented and his partnership with Ernie Wise was so very special. Eric was taken from us far too soon but his legacy will live forever God bless you Mr Morecambe xxx ❤
For those of us over 50 it's difficult to hear an emergency siren and not think, 'he'll never sell ice-creams at that speed. Eric was a one off. His comedy timing was impeccable and I love him to this day.
Just seen your reply Kaye....he doesn't do the striptease thankfully but he does the paper bag thing whenever he has a packet of crisps....loved Eric and Ernie, take me back to a much happier time in my life....good to share the memories with you.....
Oh my goodness, this is a person so close to my heart. My darling dad not only looked like Eric, but made us laugh as children when he did all the things he did, like the paper bag trick, shaking his glasses and the “Bring Me Sunshine” dance. When Eric died, my dad was seriously ill in hospital himself and we decided not to tell him. 3 days later my dad died and we would like to think he has finally met his hero at last. God bless Eric ❤ Thank you Paul.
I met him and his lovely wife in about 1975, I’d been at Luton airport watching the planes and was cycling back home to Hemel Hempstead and he was outside his house on the corner, gardening and gave me a large glass of lemonade, an absolute gentleman I’ll never forget that.
I was at The Roses Theatre in Tewkesbury for Eric's last show. It was just intended to be a chat with Stan Stennett and hearing his stories. It was hysterical. They started by telling how they pranked each other with Whoopee Cushions. It just got funnier and funnier. The interval was a blessing to catch our breath. The second half started where the first left off. My ribs really hurt from laughing. At the end, Eric rushed round the stage playing the musical instruments. He went off then came back again. He went off again then a couple of minutes later a stage hand asked if there was a doctor in the house. The whole audience froze. The Mayor, sitting next to Joan was a GP so they rushed to help. We sat in silence for what seemed a long time. We all filed out in silence because somehow we knew. This will forever be etched in my mind because we loved him so much. It is believed that when Stan eventually got back to his office and sat down, Eric had put a whoopee cushion on his chair. In the Roses Theatre today there is a room called, the "Eric Morecambe Room". For a long time a red admiral flew around the auditorium which we all thought was Eric as it lived far longer than they normally live. Thank you for finding Eric for us. He is so loved so many years after that devastating evening.
Looking forward to this Paul Eric Bartholmew as he was called was born in my home town of Morecambe. And there is a lovely statue Looking towards he's beloved town.
One day I'll get there to see it. I'm in Hertfordshire not too far from Harpenden so as soon as I've got a working car again I'm off to see the plaque and pay my respects.
There is The Eric Morecambe Centre theatre in Harpenden donated by his wife Joan who is still alive and in her 90's. A lovely gesture by Joan and a great facility used by many. When I pick my granddaughter up from St Nicholas primary school I walk past Eric's plaque and always look at it and think of him.
A friend of mine approached Eric Morecambe for an autograph at a Luton Town matchu, he handed Eric hia football programme to sign Ny friend said "My Mum Shirley is a big fan" Eric signed the programme, my friend thanked him and he rushed off to watch the second half. After the game he opened the programme to Eric's autograph to find he had written, 'To my Mum love Eric Morecambe'
Just a couple of days ago at work one of my colleagues made a remark that could be interpreted in a saucy way and I replied straightaway "There's no answer to that!" channeling Eric Morecambe! Proof positive that he's not forgotten!
Eric and Ernie were the cream of all Comedians, Never forget the sketch with Andre Previn where Eric was accused of playing the wrong notes on the Piano, He grabbed Andre Previn by the lapels and said ' I am playing the right notes but not necessarily in the right order ', Comedy Gold. RIP Eric.
For me the funniest line in that sketch was delivered by Previn himself "I'll go and get my baton__ It's in Chicago!" Which apparently wasn't in the script, totally ad-libbed. 😂
For many generations of people, he and Ernie Wise were an annual treat to watch every Christmas 🤶. He left us far too soon but the legacy of him and Ernie lives on in our hearts. Thanks for the memories Eric RIP ❤ 😊

Hi Paul I loved morecambe and wise again watched them on Sunday night at the London paladeium and many other shows and all their Christmas shows. He has a statue at morecambe Bay seen it many times. Thank you Eric for such wonderful memories. Morecambe and Wise were always on the 'Must Watch' list in our family home when I was a child. Always made us laugh so much. I loved his sense of humour, when he would stick his head out from behind a curtain whilst a guest was performing, or when Ernie was trying to do his straight act. Fantastic memories of a truly wonderful man.
What a beautiful church ,love the stain glass thank you for showing us around.. Love the video Morecambe and wise were so funny, Eric was my favourite a comic legend
Loved these two. I remember Eric's death on the news, I was 7 years old. Still watch them today. R.I.P Eric Morecambe. Gone but never will be forgotten. ❤🌹🕊
Ernie did have a career after Eric a bit like Ronnie Corbett after the death of Ronnie B but again like Ronnie C it wasn't the same after the death of his comedy partner. Ernie did stage work, TV appearances and quiz and panel shows but to be honest the stuffing had been knocked out of him and most interviewers just wanted him to talk about Eric. Tommy Cannon is probably getting the same these days.
Oh I love Eric Morecambe !!! He could make you laugh just by raising one eyebrow! Look forward to this Paul, wish I could see it in person aswell. Love Sharon xx have a great Sunday x

Lovely video, thanks Paul. I saw Eric in the seventies at Luton Town Football Club, where he was a Director. He seemed to be having the time of his life chatting and entertaining the others in the Director’s box, smoking his pipe. We all looked forward to the Morecambe and Wise Christmas show, where they took the Mickey out of fellow celebrities mercilessly. Watching it was a must in our household. Congratulations on your channel, Paul. I’ve recently come across your videos and have found them mostly interesting, entertaining and others incredibly sad. I hope you have a very happy Christmas and New Year with your friends and family. Best wishes from New Zealand.
Hello Paul🙋♀️ The first video (remember them!!) My late beautiful Mother absolutely loved Eric Morecambe & Ernie Wise. She was British, but it aired on Australian tv in the early 70s. I was only a little girl, but I'd watch it with her each week and she'd be in hysterics. They were such an enormously talented, funny comedy duo. He’s such a funny guy, I used to do the invisible ball and paper bag trick for my two sons and they were blown away by the simple trick. RIP Eric ❤. The church is stunning too ❤
Just watched your video and I suddenly realised your the first person that's actually remembered Eric after 39 years proving we are all going to be truly forgotten in time 😢
Thank you such a lovely film. I too watched them on TV, loved them both very funny. They are still on TV, still very funny. Shows worth showing again. They were two of a kind. The centenaries of their births will be coming up in a few years. Thanks again and what a lovely resting place for a lovely funny man.
Hi Paul. Just caught up with this one. Fabulous that that lady let you in to the church for a look around. Morecambe & Wise WERE Christmas TV! It still amazes me to this day not just the huge stars etc that they managed to get to appear in these shows but what Eric & Erne managed to get them to do, often well outside of their comfort zone. Who could forget André Previn (Mr Preview) and ‘All the right notes, not necessarily in the right order’ or Shirley Bassey and the lost shoe being substituted with a Doc Martin and of cause, all the BBC News Readers. The 60’s & 70’s was the Golden Age of TV entertainment, nothing today compares. As always, keep ‘em coming.
Absolutely loved Eric and Ernie so funny still love watching now especially at Xmas they meant so much to each other unbreakable bond doing what they were so good at sorely missed rip Eric and Ernie ❤️❤️❤️😊

I used to love Morecambe and Wise, it was my dads favourite show, we played Bring me sunshine, at his funeral, I have some great memories watching them with my dad ❤ xx
In the space of a year we lost Eric, Tommy Cooper, Dick Emery Leonard Rossiter and gorgeous Dians Dors. Our TV's have never really recovered. We all knew Eric and Tommy weren't in the best of health yet the sudden and public deaths of possibly the two most beloved comedians of the age was a hammer blow to the nation. Only ever one Eric Only ever one Tommy.
Loved him he was a legend Eric and Ernie and it was great of you thankyou to take us back to when comedy was funny I am in my late 60 now and it brings back nostalgia of when my children was young and we all enjoyed comedy and how normal life was then comedy was very funny and looked forward to seeing there shows at Christmas time it wouldn't have been Christmas with out Eric and Ernie there shows was legends they both was and should never to be forgotten may they both RIP.💐

Couldn’t have put it it better Paul He was comedy 🎭 Gold. What an absolute brilliant comedy duo. R.I.P Eric and Ernie.
he was a legend and prue I call him wonderful person that I call friend My name is craig king from Pembrokeshire in south west wales o
Yep! legend in TV comedy, my dad had the good fortune of meeting Eric and Ernie at the London Boat Show at Earls Court in the 70's where my dad had one of his designs on display...RIP Eric, much missed.
He’s such a funny guy, I used to do the invisible ball and paper bag trick for my two sons and they were blown away by the simple trick. RIP Eric ❤. The church is stunning too ❤
Just watched your video and I suddenly realised your the first person that's actually remembered Eric after 39 years proving we are all going to be truly forgotten in time 😢
Yes,and today we lost Michael Parkinson.
Even though my son never remembered them, he is a huge fan of morecambe and wise, he can laugh at them, more than he does comedy now x
Very funny man. My dad loved their show i use to watch it with my dad. The Morecambe and Wish Show great duo very funny in places
Really good sensitive video, Paul as always so well put together. Loved watching Eric and Ernie as a kid. Eric such very funny comedian.
Hey Paul I loved this man so funny the pair of them. RIP MISS YOU BOTH. xxxxxxxxx 🌹🌹🌹

I used to love Morecambe and Wise, it was my dads favourite show, we played Bring me sunshine, at his funeral, I have some great memories watching them with my dad ❤ xx
The days of real comedy gold, thanks again as always Paul😃👍
Loved Eric & Ernie, I’ll always remember how much they made me laugh xx
In the space of a year we lost Eric, Tommy Cooper, Dick Emery Leonard Rossiter and gorgeous Dians Dors. Our TV's have never really recovered.
We all knew Eric and Tommy weren't in the best of health yet the sudden and public deaths of possibly the two most beloved comedians of the age was a hammer blow to the nation.
Only ever one Eric
Only ever one Tommy.
Epic entertainers never see the likes of again rip both xxx
RIP Eric 💐💐💐💐, thanks Paul xxxx we grew up with Eric and Ernie.
