Richard Beckinsale loved to party. I was working at Chelmsford Prison and was there when they filmed the Porridge movie. How Witzend productions got permission to film in a real prison is beyond me. However, the prison was being refurbished having suffered fire damage so I guess that helped. Richard would visit various nightspots whilst there and would turn up on set the worse for wear the next day. As a result, he did not remember a lot of his lines. Ronnie Barker on the other hand was the exact opposite and would be word perfect every time. Even so, Richard was a very likeable character, I was so shocked when he passed away so young.
All names I grew up with and so sad that the majority of them were so young. I was particularly shaken when Richard Beckinsale died unexpectedly. I was only a kid still at school but he was such a household name and so handsome.

Me too, the way he slowly sank into that red silk 'gown', with that blonde headed girl handing him items, I honestly thought it was part of his act, and the audience did too, according to their laughter. Very sad, and shocking. ACCORDING TO WIKKIPEDIA, HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE HAVE DIED DURING PERFORMANCES, ALL OVER THE WORLD, MOSTLY FROM HEART ATTACKS, INCLUDING SYD JAMES, ERIC MORCAMBE AND LEONARD ROSSITER, TO NAME A FEW.

No reason to be disappointed or annoyed. You have showed us a beautiful place with interesting information. Even if we know now that the plaques are not there, we know that these people were cremated here. Still a nice way to remember them. 👍

Tommy Cooper's funeral was held nearby at Mortlake Crematorium, after which his son scattered his ashes in the back garden, over his father's favourite daffodils. You might like to visit Tommy Coopers statue. In it in the car park opposite the Castle in his home town Caerphilly South Wales. I was there a few years ago when it was unveiled by Sir Anthony Hopkins.

Although I've lived in Thailand for the past 24 years I was born and raised between Surbiton and Kingston. So Mortlake was very near to my home area. Many thanks for the memories you've bought me.
It's a shame about the plaques, but for some reason, seeing the setting and the ambience is nice in itself. I wouldn't be surprised if they were somewhere inside, just to make sure no one prised them off! Thanks for the tour. Looks like a beautiful place to be laid to rest.

Hi Paul, a lot of these actors also have plaques at St Paul's church in Covent Garden (aka the actors church). So, those plaques in that picture may be there as that church as it definitely has wooden walls. I believe that the only cemetery in B’ham now open for burials is Sutton New Hall, where my Husband now rests and where I will be with him one day. I remember Richard Beckinsale well. Also Robert Shaw. Both very good actors.

Tommy cooper was so funny and one of my favourites,and I use to watch his show,with my mum n dad...such memories. That’s a lovely place there,so we’ll kept,and calm . It’s such a shame people have to die that bring us so much pleasure , fun,and laughter. God rest all their souls.

I visited my local churchyard recently in Frinton on sea, just wandering around, reading the headstones and wondering about the people resting there. All of the headstones are old, with some being well over 100 years old. It's a very small churchyard and supposedly one of the oldest in England? Thanks again Paul.

Never realised robert shaw and Kenny Everett were cremated at mortlake, I used to live across the rd from the crematorium, I knew Tommy Cooper and richard Beckinsale was there , as they used to live in chiswick... I would take my kids there, beautiful area, on chiswick Bridge.

These were iconic actors/comedians of the golden era of TV probably bigger than the majority you'll see on the box now days due to being quality over quantity. Nice to see a walk round Mortlake even though without the views of the plaques.

I was about 12 or 13 when Richard Beckinsale died. I had a girly crush on him. I cut out all the write ups of him from the papers and stuck them in my mum's photo album. I still have them today

I loved Kenny Everett's Video Show in which anything could happen (even Freddie Mercury made appearances). RIP to those who passed, but still entertain.
I used to really enjoy watching the Kenny Everett Television Show with his brilliant range of characters. Sid Snot, Gizzard Puke, Reg Prescott DIY Man amongst many others. Everett was also great friends with Freddie Mercury who actually agreed to be on an episode of his TV show right in the middle of a tour of the United States. Freddie apparently flew back especially for to appear in Kenny's show for not even 5 minutes, before catching a flight back to the US to reconvene the tour with the rest of Queen. Kenny Everett of course, if you watched the movie Bohemian Rhapsody was the one who gave the song airtime on the Radio after everyone else said that the 6 minutes was too long so I think that Freddie in particular was immensely grateful to him.
🙁Remember see TC drop to his knees live on tv and thought it was part of his act only to see the o'clock afterwards saying he had died🙁.Have been to see Kenny Lynch loved some his music back in the 80's like "half the days gone".
I remember watching Tommy the night he died he was my dad's favourite when Tommy went down I remember dad's face changed and he said that's not an act he's gone I was young at the time asked him what he ment he looked with tears in his eyes I don't know if it was from the laughter or sadness and he said he's dead always stayed with me that night RIP Tommy
They had an episode of Through The Keyhole on That's TV on Saturday which featured Kenny Everett (They didn't guess whose house it was) I was thinking when I watched it most of the people on there had passed away. Kenny Everett, Sir Clive Sinclair (who was the other guest),Sir David Frost (the host) Willy Rushton and Alan Coren (who were on the panel). Time just seems to vanish so quickly 😪😪
Most of my family were dispatched through Mortlake Crem so it is a very special place for me. Other notable cremations to the ones mentioned were: Sir Robin Day, Roger Delgado (the Master in Dr Who), Charles Hawtrey, Lord Longford, Ernestine Mills (suffragette), Jimmy Perry, John Profumo, Sir Michael Redgrave, Prince Alexander Romanov, Sir Denis and Lady Margaret Thatcher and the Scottish novelist Alexander Trocchi.

Exactly this is why so many many hotels, guest houses, Theatres, entertainment bars and clubs, old disused buildings including Prisons etc etc are so very very Haunted as hundreds upon hundreds famous people have died in them doing the job they loved but very sadly some have died for all wrong reasons ie some by suicide some by alcohol and drug poisoning like Whitney Houston and Delores from Cranberries found dead in bath tub by housekeeper then there's ones like Gene Pitney did Concert went to his room for rest before next concert died he was absolutely amazing guy such talent such vocals he did that Somethings got hold of my heart with that guy from Soft Cell Marc Almond I was shocked to hear his death in news. Another great singer that totally blown my mind was wen I was seriously very unwell in non life threatening way last Summer in hospital to find my friend and I favourite Country and Western singer Nanci Gritthith died 63 think she was her funeral and cause death was private but she was very close to Singer John Prinne who died several months before so many don't share there details either by personal choice and or they don't want there relatives memorial or grave mobbed by fans which I totally understand with advancement in technology we can find out things about them that wasn't avaliable at time so can easily find the information on Google. Tommy Cooper was hilarious but like so many he was chronic alcoholic chronic insomniac smoked heavily like Charles Hawtree he had hardening of arteries he collapsed in hotel hospital wanted amputate his legs to save him he refused and died days late in Nursing Home those that didn't smoke, drink and take drugs excessively their deaths are equally very tradgic as for Kenny Everett I'm surprised he wasn't Buried as like me was Staunch Catholic as Catholic's we don't usually believe in Cremation but of late there's been loads of Cremations that were Catholic and other Religions that don't believe in Cremations and vise versa it's partly due to cost and Cemetery and Crematorium all full up hence why family plots if not renewed wen lease up use to be 50 years now it's 20 years they dig up the plot anything remaining in the ground is pulverised and churned up in the ground ready for next set of remains even with one's closed to public you won't find ancestors or pay actors, actresses, medical people, scientists etc graves as they likely been dug up to prepare for next plot I've not been able to trace my ancestors graves despite using find a grave website and ancestor websites obituaries it's annoying and frustrating but theses RUclips people doing the graves search videos for us I thank you I no how hard it is but I also now know how very hard and how elusive it can be especially if your finding someone under there real name and NOT there stage name or you don't no there real name so great work keep it up ignite the haters with the nasty negative attitude there not worth it block them as God always said seek and you shall find just takes time, effort, as well as lot resources and money etc so don't worry about it we love your channel we love the nostalgia and memories you grave visitors on RUclips bring if use do duplicates so be it ie tell the same story at same grave or memorial so what I'll still be interested as what you say other might of said something different. Before becoming far too severely Disabled I use to also go round old Cemeteries in utter awe at some of the graves how elaborately extortionate they must of cost even in Pet Cemetery one monument or statue was from what I heard 500 pounds that was 20 years ago same price for my Dogs funeral burial in Pet Cemetery around same time
I watched the show where Tommy Cooper passed away. Like everyone else we thought it was part of the act. It was horrible to witness when you realised someone just died in font of the whole of the UK.
Another great story about Tommy Cooper: he was on holiday in Egypt and saw a market stall selling fezzes. He tried one on and the owner said "Just like that!". Tommy asked how the stallholder knew his catchphrase. The man replied that whenever English people saw his stall, they would put on a fez and say "Just like that!" Now *that* is fame!
Robert Shaw was one of the best Henry V111s in A Man For All Seasons. And I loved him in the fabulous ‘Jaws’. ‘Farewell and adieu to you fair Spanish ladies, Farewell and adieu to you, ladies of Spain, For we’ve received orders to sail back to Scotland, So never no more shall we see you again’ ‘Ha ha.....see you’ve got yer rubbers, Chief’. 🤣🤣🤣 Maybe they were cremated there but their ashes either taken away and scattered elsewhere or the family kept them.

Hi Paul - I’m sure I’ve previously read that, following his funeral, Tommy Cooper’s ashes were scattered in the garden of his London home where he loved to spend his spare time, so there may not be a plaque.
Still a great interesting video matey, what a beautiful cemetery to be placed in, and for relatives to visit and spend some time with their thoughts at.

Thank you for another enlightening tour in the sunshine. What is becoming very clear through your videos is how important it is to choose a beautiful location that is cared for, as your final resting place. It is possible that the souls you seek were cremated at this cemetery but were interred or scattered elsewhere. I am not a fan of scattering as there is no end place for others to seek you out at a later date.
Some great people resting amongst this peaceful and glorious place. They gave us some wonderful moments and they truly deserve this little corner of heaven.

It's sad. All these famous people I knew in my teens when they where quite young have all gone now. These were the best times for me. 70s 80's 90s I do miss them. Thanks for the video.

Hi Paul, a lot of these actors also have plaques at St Paul's church in Covent Garden (aka the actors church). So, those plaques in that picture may be there as that church as it definitely has wooden walls. Love your videos, I'm a keen cemetery enthusiast myself and have been to many cemeteries in and around London. Keep up with the amazing work you are doing. Cheers

Hello Paul. It is interesting to see people’s final resting place, burials or otherwise. Have you ever thought of visiting the cemeteries in Birmingham, UK? I believe that the only cemetery in B’ham now open for burials is Sutton New Hall, where my Husband now rests and where I will be with him one day.

Every time I see Tommy Cooper it reminds me of my late father in law. He loved him, I can see him now on the settee laughing so much he was crying.
Thanks for yet another great video Paul. What a beautiful crematorium and huge. I visited my local churchyard recently in Frinton on sea, just wandering around, reading the headstones and wondering about the people resting there. All of the headstones are old, with some being well over 100 years old. It's a very small churchyard and supposedly one of the oldest in England? Thanks again Paul.

I used to live across the rd from the crematorium,
I knew Tommy Cooper and richard Beckinsale was there , as they used to live in chiswick...
I would take my kids there, beautiful area, on chiswick Bridge.

I was about 12 or 13 when Richard Beckinsale died. I had a girly crush on him. I cut out all the write ups of him from the papers and stuck them in my mum's photo album. I still have them today

I loved Kenny Everett's Video Show in which anything could happen (even Freddie Mercury made appearances). RIP to those who passed, but still entertain.
Kenny and Freddie shared a lover I can’t remember his name ,
I used to really enjoy watching the Kenny Everett Television Show with his brilliant range of characters.
Sid Snot, Gizzard Puke, Reg Prescott DIY Man amongst many others.
Everett was also great friends with Freddie Mercury who actually agreed to be on an episode of his TV show right in the middle of a tour of the United States.
Freddie apparently flew back especially for to appear in Kenny's show for not even 5 minutes, before catching a flight back to the US to reconvene the tour with the rest of Queen.
Kenny Everett of course, if you watched the movie Bohemian Rhapsody was the one who gave the song airtime on the Radio after everyone else said that the 6 minutes was too long so I think that Freddie in particular was immensely grateful to him.
My Dad would be bent double watching Tommy Cooper and I could never see it as a kid but now he was a comic genius

I remember watching Tommy the night he died he was my dad's favourite when Tommy went down I remember dad's face changed and he said that's not an act he's gone I was young at the time asked him what he ment he looked with tears in his eyes I don't know if it was from the laughter or sadness and he said he's dead always stayed with me that night RIP Tommy
They had an episode of Through The Keyhole on That's TV on Saturday which featured Kenny Everett (They didn't guess whose house it was)
I was thinking when I watched it most of the people on there had passed away. Kenny Everett, Sir Clive Sinclair (who was the other guest),Sir David Frost (the host) Willy Rushton and Alan Coren (who were on the panel).

Most of my family were dispatched through Mortlake Crem so it is a very special place for me. Other notable cremations to the ones mentioned were: Sir Robin Day, Roger Delgado (the Master in Dr Who), Charles Hawtrey, Lord Longford, Ernestine Mills (suffragette), Jimmy Perry, John Profumo, Sir Michael Redgrave, Prince Alexander Romanov, Sir Denis and Lady Margaret Thatcher and the Scottish novelist Alexander Trocchi.

There was a documentary made here in Ireland about him and his time here up to his tragic death. Pity you didn’t find the plaques but informative as usual.😉

Your videos are really informative and kind. It’s nice to remember the people from our childhood and the past. I love Richard Beckinsale but do find it rather sad that his eldest daughter is not mentioned on the plaque as well and in other things too.

I used to work at Her Majesty’s Theatre and I have stood where Tommy Cooper died, it was very very chilling. Keep up the good work!
Exactly this is why so many many hotels, guest houses, Theatres, entertainment bars and clubs, old disused buildings including Prisons etc etc are so very very Haunted as hundreds upon hundreds famous people have died in them doing the job they loved but very sadly some have died for all wrong reasons ie some by suicide some by alcohol and drug poisoning like Whitney Houston and Delores from Cranberries found dead in bath tub by housekeeper then there's ones like Gene Pitney did Concert went to his room for rest before next concert died he was absolutely amazing guy such talent such vocals he did that Somethings got hold of my heart with that guy from Soft Cell Marc Almond I was shocked to hear his death in news. Another great singer that totally blown my mind was wen I was seriously very unwell in non life threatening way last Summer in hospital to find my friend and I favourite Country and Western singer Nanci Gritthith died 63 think she was her funeral and cause death was private but she was very close to Singer John Prinne who died several months before so many don't share there details either by personal choice and or they don't want there relatives memorial or grave mobbed by fans which I totally understand with advancement in technology we can find out things about them that wasn't avaliable at time so can easily find the information on Google.
Tommy Cooper was hilarious but like so many he was chronic alcoholic chronic insomniac smoked heavily like Charles Hawtree he had hardening of arteries he collapsed in hotel hospital wanted amputate his legs to save him he refused and died days late in Nursing Home those that didn't smoke, drink and take drugs excessively their deaths are equally very tradgic as for Kenny Everett I'm surprised he wasn't Buried as like me was Staunch Catholic as Catholic's we don't usually believe in Cremation but of late there's been loads of Cremations that were Catholic and other Religions that don't believe in Cremations and vise versa it's partly due to cost and Cemetery and Crematorium all full up hence why family plots if not renewed wen lease up use to be 50 years now it's 20 years they dig up the plot anything remaining in the ground is pulverised and churned up in the ground ready for next set of remains even with one's closed to public you won't find ancestors or pay actors, actresses, medical people, scientists etc graves as they likely been dug up to prepare for next plot I've not been able to trace my ancestors graves despite using find a grave website and ancestor websites obituaries it's annoying and frustrating but theses RUclips people doing the graves search videos for us I thank you I no how hard it is but I also now know how very hard and how elusive it can be especially if your finding someone under there real name and NOT there stage name or you don't no there real name so great work keep it up ignite the haters with the nasty negative attitude there not worth it block them as God always said seek and you shall find just takes time, effort, as well as lot resources and money etc so don't worry about it we love your channel we love the nostalgia and memories you grave visitors on RUclips bring if use do duplicates so be it ie tell the same story at same grave or memorial so what I'll still be interested as what you say other might of said something different. Before becoming far too severely Disabled I use to also go round old Cemeteries in utter awe at some of the graves how elaborately extortionate they must of cost even in Pet Cemetery one monument or statue was from what I heard 500 pounds that was 20 years ago same price for my Dogs funeral burial in Pet Cemetery around same time
I watched the show where Tommy Cooper passed away. Like everyone else we thought it was part of the act. It was horrible to witness when you realised someone just died in font of the whole of the UK.

Another great story about Tommy Cooper: he was on holiday in Egypt and saw a market stall selling fezzes. He tried one on and the owner said "Just like that!". Tommy asked how the stallholder knew his catchphrase. The man replied that whenever English people saw his stall, they would put on a fez and say "Just like that!" Now *that* is fame!
Robert Shaw was one of the best Henry V111s in A Man For All Seasons. And I loved him in the fabulous ‘Jaws’.

Maybe they were cremated there but their ashes either taken away and scattered elsewhere or the family kept them.

Hi Paul - I’m sure I’ve previously read that, following his funeral, Tommy Cooper’s ashes were scattered in the garden of his London home where he loved to spend his spare time, so there may not be a plaque.
Still a great interesting video matey, what a beautiful cemetery to be placed in, and for relatives to visit and spend some time with their thoughts at.

Thank you for another enlightening tour in the sunshine. What is becoming very clear through your videos is how important it is to choose a beautiful location that is cared for, as your final resting place. It is possible that the souls you seek were cremated at this cemetery but were interred or scattered elsewhere. I am not a fan of scattering as there is no end place for others to seek you out at a later date.
My grandparents have their ashes buried there too and have a plaque, it’s inside.
Some great people resting amongst this peaceful and glorious place. They gave us some wonderful moments and they truly deserve this little corner of heaven.

It's sad. All these famous people I knew in my teens when they where quite young have all gone now. These were the best times for me. 70s 80's 90s I do miss them. Thanks for the video.
