I love this video. I recently picked up a matched pair of the R-10s, and this video was one of the things that helped me make the decision to pull the trigger.
I'm obsessed with the idea of using only one stereo pair of ribbon mics in a fixed position for everything. Fixed gain, set ahead of time for whatever the loudest track is. Adjust mix by moving the instruments around the room. Sort of a binaural thing, but recorded one track at a time.
I was looking for a demo of the R-10, I couldn't find a better one! Great sound, great song, and the explanation of the chain was really useful. Thanks!
You sure made those R-10's sound sweet! I'm not familiar with the boosters you mentioned. Your vocals are so transparent and sound un-effected, all in a great way, no effects needed, nothing to hide! Great song! Thanks for sharing Trevor!!
Absolutely fantastic! Beautifully recorded! Great song, great performance! I'm using Neumann NDH 20 Studio Headphones and It sounds incredibly 3d in these cans. There's incredible depth and space and presence to this recording. Trevor you are one very talented singer/song writer/ producer!
I used an R10 pair to track a grand piano, thru ribbon mic specific preamps. They sounded amazing, almost like condenser mics. I redid the take with Schoeps omnis, and however wonderful the Schoeps sounded, I preferred the R10 sound. It's a totally amazing ribbon.
The mic I used to explain the chain was non other then the R10! The R10’s and dBoosters were the only mics used on the song. The audio of me talking was one R10 and a dBooster.
hmm maybe point the vocal mic down towards his throat more than his nostrils. It is making him sound s bit too light in the loafers if you know what I mean...
great chorus mate
I forgot I was listening to a microphone demo! Great performance and song.
Thank you! That’s when you know you got a great mic!

🙌 We're noticing this being done more and more with the R-10! Let us know if you do - we love to see it.

I agree it’s fantastic. Kind of a cheesy sappy song but overall great production

@@royerlabs Two R10s on my wishlist. Getting them soon.
Thank you!
wow beautiful. So curious about the pre amps ???
DId you do work in the DAW for added brightness considering the darkness of ribbon mics? Just curious. Great video
Beautiful song, did you write it?
Was a lovely song, sort of Beatles, sort of Passenger sounding. Good mics too.
Thank you!
The sound of the mics definitely inspired the song. Thank you!
@@trevorthorntonmusic2054 ;) Thanks, Trevor
What model is this air organ? can't find a simular one no idea of the brand.
Reminds so much of a John Lennon song. Beautiful everything.
We love it too. A John Lennon song - that's high praise!
It’s the major to minor chord patterns. Sounds like a lot of other songs going for that twee falsetto thing.
What mic did you use to record the piece to camera?
The mic I used to explain the chain was non other then the R10! The R10’s and dBoosters were the only mics used on the song. The audio of me talking was one R10 and a dBooster.
stop using this guy to sell me microphones!!! :)
Sounds really close to "Something" by the Beatles to me. Maybe too close.

Most people kiss as$. I tell it how it is. Would like a bit more reverb on the vocal track as well. Sounds a bit dry and nasaly....
Thanks for your input chris. Tell it like it is!
Something in the way she moves...
