Another boss has fallen to my Kingdom Key. Riku is tough as nails with no equipment, but if you're running a melee build, use Aerora whenever it's not active, and BEAT THE LITTLE TWERP INTO THE FLOOR. Just keep hitting him, since most of his attacks can be deflected by your Keyblade, including his strike raids, which damage him if they're deflected back at him. When he jumps back for his fissure attack, rolling doesn't always give you enough time to retaliate, so I recommend running around him instead. When he OPENS HIS HEART TO DARKNESS, you're also fairly safe by the opening of the arena that faces the door, so stand there, jump when necessary, and get ready for a strike raid.
Oh my god thank you so much for this video. I gave up on the game 3 years ago in this fight and this year I was replaying the games and was stuck again. Watched the video and did it first try. 💜
So here’s something I saw when fighting him, *don’t* dodge roll when he’s doing his jump attack that leaves an opening. The delay is _just_ long enough where Ansem-Riku can move before you can hit him, so just manually move out of the way
I feel like watching this tutorial not only helped me beat Ansem-Riku, but may have taught me to play this kind of game better and to better read enemy telegraphs and think about avoiding attacks. So thanks😊
@@KHGuides No problem😊 If you’re still making videos, and looking for topics, one thing I think would be really useful is like a general good tactics guide. Like I’ve beaten the Phil and Pegasus Cups at this point, but I’m Level 48 and still find them tough. I look online and all I get is “summon tinker bell and button mash,” which…well, that’s been my strategy, but I feel like there are probably better options available😳
There’s a strategy for skipping the second phase entirely. If you have the counterattack ability, you can block his attack right after his retaliation which is the one where he slams his sword to the ground and use counterattack to lock him in a combo. You can do this until phase 3. The important thing is to remember that this only works when his hands not glowing
I accidentally had him skip phase 2 trying to save on my heals so i could study phase 3. I'm trying to beat this fight on the original PS2 version of the game.
Thank you so much for making these videos!!! 🥺 I’m mainly a cozy gamer, so learning combat in games is definitely a new skill. Learning exactly what I need to do in each battle has really helped me improve a lot.
If u wana avoid his dark aura attack, all u gota do is stand next to that yellow box thing with blue buttons on it (the one on the left side) just stand on the right of it and he literally cant even touch u with dark aura no matter how hard he trys. This is an exploit i found by accident and i swear NOBODY ever mentions it, i am wondering if im the only one who does this strat? It works everytime for me so its 100% guaranteed to avoid dark aura, way better than jumping or gliding cuz ur guaranteed to be safe hiding in ur little corner lol TRUST ME!
Funny thing, I never really had trouble with Ansem-Riku, infact, I often think it's the most fun boss fight of KH1. It feels basically like facing Riku at Destiny Island but with the balance shifted in Sora's favor, Riku started the game with Block and a payback-type attack, Ansem-Riku has access to dark version of Sora's moves (Helm Split for Blitz, Dark Firaga for Fira, Scourge for Vortex, Darkhand for Berserk, Shock Slash for Strike Raid, and Dark Aura for Sonic Blade and a little bit of Stun Impact), but this time Sora has access to abilities Ansem-Riku don't, notably Cure magic, Dodge Roll, Second Chance, and Leaf Bracer
This boss to me when i was a kid was the hardest to do there was one attempt where i almost defeated him but then my mom called me for dinner and made me lose focus then the next day i tried the boss again until i saw the ability block i equipped it and oh my fucking god it made it so easier that i literally beat him as soon as i equipped the ability
You can use Arcs Arcanum in its entirety when Ansem Riku starts guarding with his keyblade since it pierces through the block and he does it long enough for you to get the follow-up commands off without getting hit and possibly bleed into the 2nd phase with another Arcs Arcanum. If you use the 1st one while he's guarding and he's close to being in phase 2, then it'll be better if you don't finish the whole move, so you won't be locked out of using it again for too long. I didn't fight Ansem Riku with Sonic Blade, but there's a good chance it may be more consistent in dealing damage while having s the entire time during the 3rd phase of the match since he'll move a lot unless you know how to consistently counter his power-up moves. Even though the sidestep attack is the best opening for getting onto Ansem Riku for his phase 2 attacks during phase 2 and 3, you can still counterattack him safely when he does his sliding slash attack. You have to space yourself close or far enough to not get hit by the energy cleave or the rush attack.
I somehow did it first try really quickly, I just stayed calm, parry and countered his attacks, followed by doing combos to him while trapping him in a corner, use sonic blade and stayed at the side and jumped to avoid his powerful attack
The camera acts like that on OG PS2 Kingdom Hearts 1 on this fight They never fixed it. My left analog stick on the PS2 controller i got with the console was probably damaged before i had it. The right movements to run rightward only make Sora walk until i press down slightly. Every other direction works fine. Probably making the fight harder on me than it should.
wasnt able to figure out his patterns to a point where i wouldnt get hit even after dozens of attempts. but i found getting aerora makes him pretty trivial
whats funny is i coulda mashed my way through the fight on the first try and many others if it werent for his ultimate. but on my winning attempt (after i had left to upgrade my character and taken the time to learn how to dodge it) he just never used it at all ??
I’m doing level 1 run. At least he is the most fun boss in the series. And I can skip cutscenes. Brings me back to the days of struggling as a kid. Great tips. But they won’t help me 😩😩 aside from the four hit combo 👌🏼
I still recall it gives me at least 20 attempts as 13 years old before to beat Riku-Amsem. But as I replay recently I was actually to beat him with no attempt at all. 😂
On my very first playthrough of this game back in February, I beat this boss on my very first try, much to my relief after constantly losing the Destiny Islands sword fight. Thing is, I’ve recently come back to play the game again, and now, this particular fight is suddenly much harder than I remember, what with my attacks not doing much damage and me always dying in the last phase! What the heck?! Guess I should take the time to consider these tips, but what exactly could’ve allowed me to beat this boss on my very first try the very first time I played this game (only 5 months ago)?! 😓😓😓
Good on you for taking a moment for yourself before you get back to it! That helps me immensely when I'm having trouble with a game (and especially a fight like this one!). I hope you were able to take him down!
Me on proud mode (first play through not lying I actually mostly only tried using Kingdom King and no Areo) “*Sees Ansem Riku* Finally A WORTHY OPPONENT **ARE BATTLE WILL BE LEGENDARY!!!**” I ended up dying at least a handful or two hand fulls

Watched this after dying 5 times to ansem riku, immediately beat him after. You sir, are a lifesaver (and a monitor saver)

But I manage to find inner peace and master the Force to beat him in Cloud version on Nintendo Switch.

When he sidesteps, you can also block the following attack. And then counterattack immediately afterward.

to stun lock him you need to do a 4 hit combo and 1 quick step to the right rinse repeat.

phase 1 and 2 is kinda fun until he start to spam "behold the power of darkness"

i want to break my fkn controller... spent over 2 hours of my life trying to kill this %#$!@$QJ$
I hate the slow movement Sora has in this game while some bosses feel like fighting a dissidia final fantasy character
