  • In this tutorial I show how to download a KOReader One-click package and an install script for Mac, and then install KOReader on my Kobo Libra H2O. KOReader is a ebook launcher / UI for E Ink devices. Supported file formats include EPUB, PDF, DjVu, XPS, CBT, CBZ, FB2, PDB, TXT, HTML, RTF, CHM, DOC, MOBI and ZIP files. It’s available for Kindle, Kobo, PocketBook, Android and desktop Linux. Works great. It makes your e-reader really snappy and fast, and it adds a lot more features than it originally has. There is install scripts available for Mac, Windows, Linux.

    Hi, I haven't tried this yet but the video looks easy to follow and promising. My mom has a kobo h2o libra but we HATE that the meta data from Calibre doesn't transfer to the Kobo. I change the title of the book (in the metadata) to include the series info for the book but it does not transfer over to the kobo when I drop it from my desktop to the Kobo. I did that to make it easier for her to find the next book in the series she wants to read. I also have an old Sony ereader that I love but it does not support the collections any longer from Calibre. I was wondering if KOreader would work on my old Sony. What do you think? And I think we are going to try KOreader on my moms Kobo and see if we can do a better job with transferring the books to folders and book titles that work better for her.

    Koreader is the reason I kept my Kobo Libra 2. I read manga in CBZ format. With the stock software the chapters of all the different manga are mixed together and you’ll have to make collections for each manga. With Koreader, all I have to do is put the chapters for each manga in the same folder.
    I really don’t understand why the stock software can’t see the different folders and seperate them in different collections.

      You have to check KOReader website to see if it’s supported. My understanding is that Tolino is only kobo hardware based and not software based. So you can’t follow the same guide as for kobo devices. So check for the right setup instructions on their webpage if there is any for Tolino.

    I don't know if I'm just being really stupid but I hit a brick wall already at step 2. I downloaded the one-click package with no issues but I can't see any way to download the install script for windows. When I click on it, it opens the script in another tab but I cannot see any option to download (even if i right click on the link it doesn't give me any option to download). I tried the mac link out of curiosity and that downloaded immediately so it seems to be a problem only with the windows script. Can you advise me how to download this script rather than simply just opening it in a new tab? I can obviously save the page that opens but then it just downloads it as text which is maybe not what is needed. Sorry if this is a basic question, I appreciate the help

      I am sorry to tell you that you cannot install Koreader directly on Kindle ereaders. You have to jailbreak or downgrade the Kindle firmware to install any 3rd party applications on Kindle. Installing any 3rd party applications is not allowed on Kindle unless you hack the firmware. Doing that could risk the chance of having the firmware corrupted, going into an endless bootloop when starting the device or even worse, the Kindle not boot up at all. That is the con of having a Kindle device. I ditch the Kindle for Kobo because of this. You are stuck with what the Kindle firmware offers.Kobo devices are open devices. Once you own it, you can do anything with it without the company placing any restrictions on what you want to do with it.

    I'm not that plrased at all with koreader. It cannot handle mobi or azw files properly. It crashes constantly with large pdf files, etc.

    • @svartling
      @svartling  Год назад +1

      Ok. To your information I can tell you that Mobi is a dead file format. Amazon has stopped using it and it is discontinued. I use KEPUB files on my Kobo devices and KoReader and it never crashes and has great formatting options. And I don't read PDF's on any e-Reader because it's a terrible experience. I don't have a Kindle with KOReader on, but if I had, I would use the new format called KFX or KF8.

    after an automatic update of my kobo H2O V2 , I can't reinstall Koreader
    clic on Nickelmenu give a pop up : " generator error" ...
    clic in generator error : kfmon: error checking':/tmp/kfmon-ipc.ctl': stat: No such file or directory (snc/generator_c.c:93)
