To be alone is to love 💗 loneliness is a sign that you’re in deeply need of yourself 🙌 Hope you’re doing well, Mike. Still looking forward to the day when we connect in person 😁
@ yes, exactly. To be alone is to love and to love solitude, you are right. And loneliness is not a good feeling. But loneliness can also mean that you are in deep need of yourself. 🙌
@ and I am also of the opinion, that People are wrong if they feel that joy of life comes principally from human relationships God placed it all around us, it’s in everything and anything we can experience 🕉️🙌
I’ve lived here alone eight years, with a couple live-in girlfriends for short stints. And this year (2024) I went through cancer surgery twice and six months of chemotherapy, alone. Well, mostly alone. After each surgery I hired a caregiver for about $24USD per day, for a 12 hour shift. You can hire what you need, whether caregiver, housekeeper, driver, etc. so there’s little concern about being alone if you get sick. Regarding everyday life, Mike is spot on. Get a bike and go explore. You’ll easily meet people everywhere along the way. Even stopping at a roadside bakery for a snack means you’ll be asked by a pretty girl where are you from? Everyone here is generally friendly and happy to meet foreigners. At the end of the day it’s a great life living alone here, punctuated by as much dating activity as you like. I advise keeping your residence as your sanctuary, inviting girls in when you desire companionship, but hold the line with regard to moving one in on a full-time cohabitation basis.
I moved to the Philippines being alone. I didn't know a single soul when I showed up. I'm still alone, just not in the physical form. Being alone makes you stronger.
Funny, but that's one of the reason why I moved to the Philippines! I can live an entire week in Hawaii without interacting with a soul - not here. Everyone knows me by name, including friends at the gym, restaurants, to the ladies that do my laundry. Love it here so much, I've decided to go for my SRRVisa, and heck, made friends with the people working at the travel agency! Looking forward to taking college classes with my SRRVisa to keep me even more busy in retirement. It's all about the people here.
I would rather be alone in the Philippines than in a high rise in New York City People in the Philippines still have the sense of community and will be aware of an elderly neighbor living alone that might need help.
If I wanted to be alone, I would just stay in America as it is the best place in the world to be alone and independent. But if you want to see a lot of people that you can have a conversation with then the Philippines is the place to be. Good topic and thank you for sharing.
If you move into a high rise condo - you will never feel alone. The staff and neighbors will always say hello to you - and you will bump into good people at the pool and have English conversations. When you settle in with a girl and become a couple - you'll replace loneliness with love - and you will feel 35 again even though the face in the mirror says otherwise.
Yeah, I got my girlfriend and our little baby girl when I get there to retire next year I was there for the whole month of September in Dumaguete. But you bring up a good point Mike about keeping yourself busy I like to go to the gym for sure. Probably try and find a church that fits so If im feeling lonely. I turned to God that works for me.
Mike, terrific video. Yes, I fear solo travel to the Philippines. How do I avoid loneliness, develop new friends, find a lady who keeps my company. I recently lost my beauty at just 44 yrs old and will need to start all over at 63 yrs old. Excellent content. Thank you provide us all more. Like your new set looks good to me.
Most of what you said still applies here in the USA. I live by myself and am retired, so I can relate to everything you said today. Luckily, I have the money, and that isn't an issue for me money-wise. Take it all with a grain of salt! Thank you, Mike, for the heads-up!
3:29 Very good information, Mike. Loneliness is tough on most people I think. I'm in Manila 2 months now. I'm the exception, as I value my alone time. Prolonged time with people tends to drain me mentally. For me, being alone doesn't necessarily make me lonely.
I priced each procedure at Apple Denestry from cleaning to major extraction and if I needed every one the total cost would cost less than my US dental insurance.
Great topic Mike. This topic is top of mind for me as I will be by myself when I travel to the Philippines. My understanding is that expats do experience loneliness in retirement. But, that can occur anywhere including back home in the USA. Unfortunately, we don't treat our seniors well here unless they are family as most seniors have a tendency to keep to themselves. Well, I for one really appreciate you taking on this topic. By the way, during one of your livestreams someone gifted me a membership, but I was unsure of who it was, so if you know please thank them for me. As a result, I have renewed my membership for the future! See you on your next livestream!
Hello Mark…You make a good point about getting out and about if you move there. If you are a serious introvert, that may be a struggle, but your in a new country and starting a new life, so that’s a perfect time to break the mold and get yourself out there. I’ve been 4 times in the Philippines, and I find everyone to be happy to answer questions, and help out. Just be nice! As for crime, I have never felt like I was in imminent danger, not once. But I also don’t walk around like Mr T, dripping in gold chains, or expensive watches…don’t be stupid. Nobody is impressed by a walking jewelry store… Salamat
Hi Mike and Janet 🙋. A whole boat load of good advice Mike... Thanks for sharing 👍 Last time I was in Dumagete i put my rental scooter on the boat and went to Siquijor Island. It was a blast😊
Mike before I had the accident to force me in early retirement, I was a hotel manager. I have worked in Europe, Asia and in the Indian Ocean countries for hotel brands like Radisson, Constance and Starwood. In all I have been to over 20 countries and cannot remember the amount of cities I have been to. Today I am at home on this beautiful island called La Digue in the Seychelles. I have never been so lonely as I am today even in my own country. If my surgery goes well my mobility will improve I am moving to the Philippines in one of these bubble cities where everything that I need will be working distances to make my hub. It will be either one of these BGC, Cebu Mactan or Alyala, Bacolod, Davao or Iloilo. When I am boots on the ground I will stay in all of these places to experience it then make my decision.
For those of you that are truly alone over here. A tip for you is to get to know your barangay captain! He's kind of like a councilman or something back in the states. They can help you with setting up things you might need while you're alone. And for any physical needs make sure you know where local ambulance services in case it's needed. Nice post mike
Great advice Mike. I like the positive encouragement. I would really love to see you interview a Senior female from the U.S. living on Social Security in the Philippines.
@MactanMurray You don't see much info on women coming to the Philippines. I'm personally not into women, but to each their own. I am very interested in the Philippines though from a woman's perspective & making it on her own.
@@ThereIsSoulInArt - well - I moved the the PH because I'm dirt poor in the US. Even a dirt poor woman can live well in the PH - a woman with more than $2,000/month can be the queen bee of her circle. It takes guts to try - and if you don't like it - home is just $1,000 and 24 hours away.
I love living overseas. The peace of mine and the quality of life are unmatched. Keep your circle of friends small and don't accept every invitation. Find 3 people that you can truly trust, and everyone else is just an acquaintance.
Not me. I was stationed there for 3 years and I loved it. FREEDOM and to do whatever you want and when you want is the way to be. I've never been married and I plan on keeping it that way. I guess you can say I'm a loner and a bachelor for life. That's the way I like it 🤠
What worries me most is what you talked about in the first part of your video: what if you have medical issues and you are alone, without a significant other. That's something I still have to work out! Yes, I have friends, but they have their family, their job, ... They can't take care of me 24/7 if health issues would require so. That's a tough one, Mike!
Hi Mike, well jenny had her open heart surgery, got a infection in the heart so took 14 days till I got her out but couldn't fly with her as her lung collapsed and they fixed it so got a 13 hr train ride home omg never again haha I ended up.in hospital too blood clot in my leg but getting over it, I'm looking after jenny well , so everything will be slow recovery for her but looking positive, take care cheers ray 😊
Transportation, yes. I stayed in the province with my girl. Without her, I would not have been able to get around. It's not like here. Driving 50 to 100 miles is nothing for us. There, an 11 mile trip is a chore. I bought a bike and kitted myself out, and I enjoyed my rides. Once I was able to figure out distances and get a little used to finding my way around, I felt more comfortable. I would choose to live closer to or in larger city.
Depending where your at, I don’t like alone, Love my wife most family, my small circle, Seen a few people die older men, Seen many locals die not able to pay, There are tons of expats I see engaged in conversation, Shit trust very few like 2 out of 100, But there is plenty to do and see, Its budget friendly, You want good girl, get involved with activities, You’ll find a good mate, you share compatibilities with that’s very important you must share the same common interest in Life from faith to activity, Great Vid Mike, Salute Belus
Mike, my oldest sister and my youngest sister, both support me in wanting to move to the Philippines. However, my 2 middle sisters are afraid of never seeing me after I move.
Being alone comes with both benefits and challenges. On the positive side, solitude allows for personal freedom and the ability to make choices based solely on your own interests and desires. You can pursue activities and goals without needing to consider a partner’s preferences, which can lead to a deeper understanding of yourself and greater independence. However, it’s also important to acknowledge the potential downsides, such as feelings of loneliness or lack of support. Balancing time alone with social connections can help maximize the advantages of solitude while minimizing its challenges.
Not much change with the negatives compared to home country. If I can take my dog I will consider the move. Yes I want an area within easy transport reach of a major hospital. I live alone in UK. Nicer in a warm country. Perhaps I need a comfy bag for my little lap dog.
Tim that’s the only thing that’s keeping me here in So. California. I have an elderly dog that couldn’t make the flight to the Philippines. He has maybe a year left, and I’m giving him his best life to the end. Take care.
A tip on the peso. In september it was p55.47. yesterday it was as high as p59.45. the prediction for next year is as high as p64.00. remember as you see the us dollar rise the peso goes higher. It's a great exchange rate right now
What is never looked at is you can live there and not rent ...live in a decent hotel and visit different places for 20 a day ...place cleaned new sheets hot water TV etc. That's 610 usd a month tops ...and take the time to find a permanent place ...thanks Mike usa is 10x the cost of everything
Thanks Mike. I needed this video this morning. Lonely isn't my problem but that fear of What If? The truth is "What If?" exist right here. Alone isn't bad, it's just not good. Genesis 3 18.
HI MIKE , Very good advice. Ithink our COLA may be 2.5 this year , not much when you are in low scale of SOCIAL SECURITY. BIG FEAR #1 HAVING MAJOR MEDICAL PROBLEM THERE. It is great idea to have friends there EXPAT and FILIPINOS I want to wish you , JANET and family a MERRY XMAS , HAPPY HOLIDAYS... At least you don t have BIG DRONESTHERE. TY MIKE be safe GOD BLESS CIAO P.S. YES THEY FLEW OVER MY HOUSE NO B.S.
A tip on a skin tax. I'm in the provinces in a low population area but there's a ton of street vendors. If you're looking to barter just look like you know what you're talking about and they will easily go down small amounts with hardly any are you and because they know you'll walk away. Mike was talking about apples i got hit up for 40 pesos the other day for apples and they're only 35 here for large. I told the guy I'll give you 30 pesos each for 10. He took it after a little bit of screwing around. My lady help me with the language. The bordering is kind of fun once in a while.
Your better living in a condo if on your own there's security. Guy's that are lonely should be careful who they trust when it comes to trust there's different levels don't tell people to much don't take people until you know you can trust them to your home. When talking to Filipinos don't tell them your just in the country its best to tell a lie as in iv been here a year i have friends here some might try to take advantage if they think your clueless and don't know people.
Loneliness is a feeling that is primitive. It was a survival mechanism back then, if you’re alone you were done for. As an older guy making a network of guy friends wherever you may be is always a good idea . You might need them and they might need you to provide value to each other. In my opinion, being single is always the best way to go, and if you feel the pressure to not be single start seeing your guy friends more and get out of there. Don’t let the vampire in your house.
How can an expat qualify for a motorcycle loan if I'm not a permanent resident? I assume they would accept my social security benefit letter as proof of income?
You made some valid points Mike. But I strongly disagree about paying a trike driver an extra 60 pesos for a trip. Just remember every penny is a prisoner when you tip these people money they work less so it’s settling a bad example. Cheers 🍻
True: you have nothing to fear living alone in a foreign country 9,000 miles away, unless you suffer a heart attack or a stroke. By then, it will be too late to worry.
How and elderly man or woman can relocate halfway around the world and not think about this is beyond me. The medical alone makes me stay in the U.S and I have no regrets
Good video. I have been to Dauin to dive three times and am moving there in a few weeks. I am a diver and will stay busy. It’s paradise here. I am single and know it’s hard to meet Ladies in Dauin but I don’t want to live in town. I will figure it out.
LOL! I've lived alone since my last relationship ended when I was 45. I'm 67 now. I still work, but don't consider work as my social outlet. I have the flexibility of doing what I want.
The only reason why I don’t like the extra they charge us is, they demand us to be respectful but they disrespect us by overcharging us just because of our skin color. I don’t mind tipping but they should be respectful by being honest. I really like the Philippines but I only take grab, or have my own vehicle or hire a private driver I trust. Why would I pay 200% more then a Filipino to drive me if there’s a possibility that he doesn’t have a drivers license or insurance
Hi Mike hope all is well , I have a quick question . I'll be 61 when I arrive to LAPA LAPA , and I wanted to know which would be the right Visa to get . I'm on SSDI
I am 100% agree with you mike about give lil extra it won't break your wallet is just 2 or 3 usd. Some expat they elaborate the issues. They landed their conclusion ah because i am a foreigner that's skin tax... that's BS...
I’ve asked a few of your fellow vloggers, but I don’t think I’ve asked you… Why is it none of your mention Three wheelers as a safer alternative to motorcycles? Bud Brown got around just fine for years! My Philippine transportation is a Bajaj RE I bought in 2017, right at the beginning of the Baobao explosion. I am 5-0, vs motorcycles, and, thanks to my Philippine driver’s license, and insurance, combined with the fact that all the motorcycle drivers were at fault, including 3 who had no license, I haven’t been levied a Kano fine! The lights, and windshield ( with wiper) are awesome! As for dogs, I have managed to avoid them 🤞, but I like my chances vs any dog! Motorcycles are fun, and a bit easier to park, but I read a new story about an expat being hospitalized, crippled, or worse, while riding a motorcycle almost every week!
I saw a video about Thailand that said pedestrians don't have the right of way and that the traffic doesn't slow down for someone crossing the street! 😮
There's plenty of people that go into the bars and hardly come out. These are the power drinkers. The "drink all they want and never puke" type. Every bar and every shift knows them. Even when they're kicked out, they're always un-kicked out by morning.
Hey Mike this is Jerry fish I'll be coming there by February I hope I'll be able to meet you and have coffee get some pointers about a good place to rent if you have time have a merry Christmas to you and your wife and family
i would not live their single some do that ok but my filipina is my guide i could not make it with out her im only their because that what she wants it NOT optional with her.
14:27 when you started naming all the things we have to pay in America i felt you were talking to me 😂. My mortgage alone is $3100 and add on almost everything you mentioned on top of it. Yikes! Can't wait to join you ex pats someday.

Thanks Mike. I needed this video this morning. Lonely isn't my problem but that fear of What If? The truth is "What If?" exist right here. Alone isn't bad, it's just not good. Genesis 3 18.
Thanks for the confident good advice 😊
You're so welcome!
I agree on everything but get an assistant that does cleaning shopping translalation and stands in the quelines for what needs to be done 👍
HI MIKE , Very good advice.
Ithink our COLA may be 2.5 this year , not much when you are in low scale of SOCIAL SECURITY.
BIG FEAR #1 HAVING MAJOR MEDICAL PROBLEM THERE. It is great idea to have friends there EXPAT and FILIPINOS
I want to wish you , JANET and family a MERRY XMAS , HAPPY HOLIDAYS...
At least you don t have BIG DRONESTHERE.
TY MIKE be safe
GOD BLESS CIAO
P.S. YES THEY FLEW OVER MY HOUSE NO B.S.
I hope you have a wonderful Christmas as well!
The bordering is kind of fun once in a while.
good subject..👍
Thankyou for the great info for single expats..great videos..thankyou..
Our pleasure!
Learn to enjoy your own company.
Truth!
Sounds good to me being alone
One Phil vlogger said you can't even enjoy a meal outside along the Blvd - Said it stinks - Trenches with sewage run parallel to it . . .
no way very nice
Listen to Elvis Presley sing "Heartbreak Hotel" a few times. That will help cure your loneliness.
You'll have company at Heartbreak Hotel.
Don’t let the vampire in your house.
good video
I'm glad you liked it!
How can an expat qualify for a motorcycle loan if I'm not a permanent resident? I assume they would accept my social security benefit letter as proof of income?
if you need a loan to buy a motorbike you should rethink moving overseas
I am single and know it’s hard to meet
Ladies in Dauin but I don’t want to live in town. I will figure it out.
That sounds amazing! You'll have a great time there.
I’ve lived alone for over fifteen years now, and I’m okay with it. It will probably take a bit to get used to living with someone again.
LOL! I've lived alone since my last relationship ended when I was 45. I'm 67 now. I still work, but don't consider work as my social outlet. I have the flexibility of doing what I want.
Thanks for sharing!!
My church here in North Carolina has a lot of Filipinas and Filipinos.
Why would I pay 200% more then a Filipino to drive me if there’s a possibility that he doesn’t have a drivers license or insurance
sad you think that way
Nothing as a relaxing motorcycle ride in Dumaguete!
I've enjoyed many of those myself!
Mike ,is it possible to do bicycle in Philippines, walking do you have good sidewalk, cycling paths, thank you if you can answer.
Hi Mike hope all is well , I have a quick question . I'll be 61 when I arrive to LAPA LAPA , and I wanted to know which would be the right Visa to get . I'm on SSDI
know your surroundings, and always keep your head on a swivel. keep your wallet in your front pants pocket.
I am 100% agree with you mike about give lil extra it won't break your wallet is just 2 or 3 usd. Some expat they elaborate the issues. They landed their conclusion ah because i am a foreigner that's skin tax... that's BS...
Hello everyone
Are there descent gyms there?
In Manila is 1000 pesos to see a doctor. Expensive is around 1300 pesos which is still cheap
It's better to live alone than to have a partner then ur not compatible in everything
Some people are co dependent, they need someone to lead them around, or depression kicks in
I’ve asked a few of your fellow vloggers, but I don’t think I’ve asked you…
Why is it none of your mention Three wheelers as a safer alternative to motorcycles?
I saw a video about Thailand that said pedestrians don't have
the right of way and that the traffic doesn't slow down for someone crossing the street! 😮

Good advice!
Chismiss is good 😊 it makes the brain 🧠 healthy.
14:27 when you started naming all the things we have to pay in America i felt you were talking to me 😂. My mortgage alone is $3100 and add on almost everything you mentioned on top of it. Yikes! Can't wait to join you ex pats someday.
