- Find out how to switch from DHCP to a Static IP address on EVE-NG. If your EVE-NG installation was not able to get an IP address via DHCP, then you can restart the EVE-NG setup process and manually configure a static IP address using the steps below.
To do this, follow these steps:
1. Login to the EVE-NG VM (default: username: root / password eve)
2. Remove the saved EVE-NG config file: rm -f /opt/ovf/.configured
3. Restart the setup process: su -
4. Go through the setup process (select a static IP address using the spacebar)
5. After the reset process is finished, your EVE-NG will be set up with the new static IP address.
Hey Jon - was building out an eve-ng instance (I am a long time GNS3 user and wanted to give Eve another chance). I was configuring a static IP and EVE lets you hit enter even if there is no IP entered. Anyone long story short this video was super helpful in getting it fixed quickly. Keep up the good work.
Ah yes, that’s caught me quite a few times myself. Glad to hear you found the video helpful. I started with GNS3 myself.
Thanks i by mistake pressed enter on the DHCP and was foundering how to reset this, to get static ip setup. Great video and straight to the point!
Yeah I’ve done that quite a few times myself, glad you found it helpful
@@jongreenit If possible can we connect on zoom session because Im not getting IP address for eve
Thanks Jon. Very useful video
Thank you for the info! Easy to follow and was able to update my EVE-NG management IP.
Nice! Glad it helped
Keep it man. A lifesaver!

Good stuff!
Great video, I really love it.
THANKS!! was using a local lab with QEMU (qcow2 image), getting DHCP. then I moved to a ESXI server converted to vmdk but dont have a DHCP server.
now i could set a static ip!
Nice, glad to here the vid helped
Much appreciated!! Subscribed
thank you, direct and clear.
After setting static ip to my EVE NG it was facing issue with internet connetivity so i changed EVE NG VM ethernet settings to bridge connection and its working well..thanks for sharing commands to change static ip on EVE NG
Yeah sometimes by default it will use NAT which can cause issues if you’re trying to access it on your local network. Bridged is recommended, but really just depends on the particular usecase
Thanks.. it really help me to fix my problem
thx bro... berjalan dengan baik.. semoga makin berkembang channelmu.. thanks
had to subscribe to you for this. you're the only one on youtube who helped me thank you!

Hello, I need help setting up my virtual network editor. It was working but all of a sudden i could not log in with the IP i was using. Not sure how to set up my VMnet nics, I just want to keep it simple and just pick up an IP using DHCP or get it dynamically.
Have you tried following the steps in the video and re-selecting dhcp?
thx
i love u man
Hello Jon, Quick question, I am tring to rese EV-NGt root password, EVE FAQ mentions to use the same command : rm -f /opt/ovf/.configured, to reset the password, however, since I am not able to login I get stuck in the user/pass propmt, any idea?
Hi Cesar, it’s important to remember that EVE-NG runs on top of Ubuntu Linux. In this case you’ll need to reset the Linux password before being able to reset EVE-NG. I believe this article will provide insight for you on how to regain access to your instance of EVE-NG

Thank's man it's work finaly
Hi Jon, how to find your current default gateway in EVE-NG ?
Try "ifconfig" and/or "ip route"
Pretty important note, linux is case sensitive.
Important note indeed. Thanks!
Hi Dear Thank you for this method, but windows 7 node is not working with every time I started it it does not work do you know by any chance what is the right way to fix this?
Hmm at which point are you encountering an issue. Does EVE accept the static ip address?
@@jongreenit Thank you for your quick response, I install EVE then upload the images as explained in many RUclips Videos. I faced a common issues with Cisco Switch am pretty sure you know about it easy to fix. However when I try to use windows 7 it does not work at all I tried to uninstall and reinstall EVE, change it to static IP, change network adapter in VMware. nothing works. I don't know what is the problem !
dont work on my eve, i already try this comands but when i open the browser and put IP address that Vm workstation gives, dont open the eve login page
Sounds like a possible connectivity issue. Is the IP address that EVE gives you on the same network as your PC? Also check to see if your connection is set to NAT or bridged. I would suggest changing this to bridged and rebooting EVE-NG
can u help me out configuring ,eve ng
which step are you stuck on?
@@jongreenit im not getting option to configure ip and mask.
From static or dhcp option, after selecting static,It directly jumps into ntp and from ntp ,it jumps to proxy settings
@@jongreenit if u share email,i can share with u screen shots
can i use any ip adress i want
As long you connect to it on your local network
Instead of taking me to subnet mask it takes me to proxy or direct click
Try restarting the process. Make sure when you get to the screen to choose static you utilize the space bar to select static (this will mark the static box with an x) one you do that you should get to the screen where you input the static ip details
@@jongreenit Thanks for this it worked i was missing space
I smashed the like button, but now my mouse isn't working anymore. Do you have a tutorial for that?
Ah jeez, thanks for the like lol... try subscribing :) or a new pair of batteries
😂 just joking. Great tutorial by the way. I’ve been using eve for a bit so it’s nice to see a clear and concise video.
@@mansley1281 Oh okay great haha, glad to hear you enjoyed the tutorial
will that will delete my LAB?
Yes, you may want to export your labs before performing this process if desired.
dint ask for static ip settings , even if i set static.
I’ve had something similar happen before, make sure when you select static you hit the “spacebar” and an “x” will mark your selection
didnt work for me , even after making sure i run the entire process as root , maybe its because i have iso instead of ova idk
Are you still encountering an issue?
@@jongreenit yea the thing is i cant find an ova install on they're website i think they remove it totaly and they only allow community edition with iso file
@danielgx83 I don't think using an iso vs ova image would cause an issue. When you initially installed eve ng did it take you through this setup process? Are you using VMware workstation or performing a bare metal install?
I've tried following the steps and the IP still doesn‘t show up.
I click on Static and it doesn‘t show me to enter the IP.
Make sure when you select "static," you hit the space bar to confirm your choice. Once "static" is selected, you should see an "x" highlighting the option you selected. Then press enter, let me know if this helps.
su - returned nothing for me though
did you hit enter afterwards?
Are you using the community or pro edition?
nothing pops up when i enter the "su - "
Have you already entered the password root/eve to login?
cute
