Operating system: Windows 8, 8.1
Cause of error: bootmgr file is the boot file for the Windows operating system. If the bootmgr file is corrupt, an error will occur: _ (black screen and blinking underscore).
Solution:
1. Create a "Hiren's BootCD" bootable USB flash drive.
2. Create a "Windows 8 / 8.1" bootable USB flash drive.
3. Insert Hiren's BootCD bootable USB flash, then boot from the USB disk, then select Mini Windows XP.
4. Find the corrupt bootmgr file.
4. Insert Windows 8 / 8.1 bootable USB flash
5. Open Windows 8 / 8.1 bootable USB drive then copy paste the bootmgr file.
6. Restart the computer, and boot from the hard drive. Done.
