- The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 continues to be an impressive device. No bugs, amazing display, great cameras and superb performance. As a first time foldable user, and predominantly an Apple user, I am super impressed. And after the Apple iPhone 14 Pro Max and 14 Plus launches, as well as the Google Pixel 7 Pro just being released, is the Fold still holding its own?
And what about the Z Fold 4 battery issues that we kept hearing about? Has Samsung done a good job with the new Qualcomm Snapdragon Gen 8+ chip? Does this device even compare with the S22 Ultra, the iPhone 14 or dare I suggest, is the Galaxy Z Fold 4 in a completely different league?

For a car mount, I bought the 'Qoosea Dual Coils 15W Qi Car Mount Phone Holder for Air Vent Dashboard Car Phone Holder Compatible with Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4' off of Amazon. You can use it as a wireless charger. It automatically closes the clamps via small motor when it detects your phone on it. Press of the button and it opens up to release. It's been pretty awesome.

@Tiago Thinks I'm not OP, but I use Google Play Books to both purchase and read books on my Fold 4. I have had no issues and it's a really enjoyable experience.

I just switched from iPhone after 11 years and I am loving this phone. I was at a wedding last weekend and had the college football games going on the full screen and had people crowded around the phone watching the games. Freaking awesome phone

I came from the XS MAX and was waiting for the 14 pro max to come out, but after looking it for quite some time , the iPhone seems to be a little boring with the same model over and over again for the last 5 years, so I have no doubts at all switching from XS MAX to the fold 4.
In the same case, I came from Xs Max. The best decision ever.

I'm loving my fold 4. I love gaming and browsing content on here. I'm always trying to find a new way to experience the bigger display and I'm never disappointed. The fold is my new go-to phone for years to come. I just wish they would include the s pen in the phone already. You can make apps full screen though so the best user experience possible is there, you just have to activate it.
I know I'm late to the game on the fold 4 but I'm currently and eagerly awaiting the arrival of my fold 4 in the mail...been binging on fold 4 videos this past week..I can't wait to get my hands on it...always been a Samsung phone user..
So true about the software being so close to bug free. It’s about time a reviewer mentioned this. It’s been a dream to use but has some minor caveats. Oh and I can’t remember the last time apple released an iOS update that was a joy using. It seems to take apple a whole year to iron out bugs and then they drop another iOS release full of bugs.
And IOS is still full of Bugs!!! One Ui for the win
I'm watching this video on my Fold 4. I absolutely love it! It's so smooth and intuitive for me. My only gripe is that the S-Pen isn't internal, which requires a case to hold it. My sexy i-Blason case is too bulky, but it offers better protection than my Samsung case. I'm convinced that the fingerprint scanner needs to be a part of the power button on all phones.
Absolutely Rene, that is such an underrated feature. Apple did it with the iPad Air, not sure why they can't get that on all their stuff. I wish the S-Pen was internal too, the cases for it are just too much...
I had a Note 10+ and now, I got the Fold 4 for a month. Me playing with this new phone, I can do so much and it's amazing!!!
I love my z fold especially for its range of displays packed in one device. The audio during media consumption is awesome. Overall a satisfying purchase.
Absolutely the most comfortable phone to use. One handed the chunkiness and slim build it's a dream. Even opened to the main display the phone is extremely comfortable to use...especially when using the official samsung case with the strap on it. And as you said...you don't realize how next level good the speakers on this phone truly are until you pick up a standard candy bar phone.

I also really love the the device (coming from a Fold3). The slight additional screen size makes typing so much more easy. The much more power efficient processor (mainly in standby) and the much improved camera's make this a worthy upgrade.
I also don't see this as a phone that turns into a tablet, but rather a tablet that you can carry in your pocket. This does make change in the use cases. For me it's a tablet with all the functions and ergonomics a phone has.

I was hesitant about foldable phones because of the price and how delicate they were also I take alot of pictures and video with my phones so the cameras were also why I was hesitant. But with the z fold 4 they have upgraded the cameras and the technology has become more durable then the previous versions still have to be careful with it but it has turned out to be more durable than expected. I love all the multitasking I can do on it nd like you said with a Bluetooth mouse and keyboard its basically a mini laptop. I enjoy being able to have a tablet and a phone. I am surprised at how much I am enjoying and using the z fold 4.
Hi there! Absolutely, it feels very premium and sturdy. Samsung Dex is awesome, but in my experience, the USB-C connection is a must. Wireless will work but there's definitely a noticeable lag. OK if in a situation where this is the only option I suppose. Really happy with the experience. How have you found gaming and watching content on it?
@@AlexGTech you are absolutely correct there is a lag sometimes when im using my Bluetooth mouse and keyboard especially if im going back and forth with different applications if it gets too annoying I use my usbc adapter that came with my note 10plus. I find watching content is great for the most part but in certain applications like Instagram watching reels and stories sometimes they look a bit too stretched out or parts are cut out of the screen. Either than that I like watching Netflix hulu amazon prime on it its awsome i have a little kickstand on the back of my case that I use to prop it up. Gaming is nice too no lag no issues its awsome playing call of duty or need for speed on a large screen. Although sometimes It does seem to look a bit stretched out when the gamer is first loading up but then it corrects itself and looks good. I also have an s21 ultra didn't see the need to upgrade to the s22 ultra. But I find myself using the zfold 4 more now. I mainly use my s21 ultra if im going to be somewhere that I might be running around alot or possibly be around alot of sand or dirt or for taking pictures at night. I find the cameras on zfold 4 dont look as good at night.
The Apps that aren't formatted correctly can be made to fit using the settings menu. It works well and Instagram in particular is so much better 👍
Got my Z 4 one week now. I love it. Only thing I miss is camera set up on my previous S22 Ultra.
I came from the s21 ultra and same here I miss the 10x and the zoom on the ultra wide but the trade off was worth it

Yes, the camera on the S22U is out of this world. For me, the experience on the Fold has been smoother (Exynos variant on the S22U)

I just watched your video and for apps to be viewed on the whole screen do the following.
Settings:
Display
Then scroll down until you see Full Scree Apps.
From there you can choose which apps you want to view in full screen.

There's a Labs feature under Advanced settings that let you force apps to run in multi window mode on the Fold 4, even if it isn't supported officially by the app. I use this and can get *most* apps running in split screen fine now

Yeah coming from an iPhone and a pixel 6, my S22 has had zero bugs. Def unlike the Samsung of the past. I was surprised. Once the fold becomes slimmer, I'll end up with one. Unless if apple makes a fold in the next couple years. Also with any android phone I get, I download all the Google apps to replace the manufacture apps, like Google photos, GBoard, calenders, clock etc. And Nova launcher for all the gestures.
Gboard is a must, totally agree. Nova launcher is amazing, been using it since the S21 Ultra and really enjoy it. It's been a an incredible buy, expensive but man is it worth it! Love it!
Honestly, I love having a phone that I know not everyone else can afford. It’s like playing a popular game and spending money on exclusive items to get skins that you know not everyone can afford hence you and a handful of others will literally be the only ones with the phone or skin. Not only that.. I just love the software and the massive screen. Gives a classy bougie type of vibe.
Plus it’s downright under appreciated. Many apple fans won’t even go near anything that doesn’t have that stupid apple logo slapped on the back of it, so they don’t even know what it’s like to have these upper class devices.
Couldn't agree more, I've been an Apple user myself for many years but this is just in another class. Totally ahead of its time.
I have recently switched to Z Fold4 from iPhone 13 Pro Max and trust me I don't have any regrets 😊

I’m an avid iPhone user and I’m not due to upgrade until September next year but this is the first time a foldable has made me look twice. Looks a great phone, only worry I have is will it last 24 months, these foldable seem to struggle with durability and for the money you’d expect them to last at least 2 years without issue. For me it’s still too new a technology and hasn’t been perfected yet. Ill maybe look again next year
Longevity is definitely a concern mate , if you look at owners reviews of past folds after they have gotten over the initial goldilocks period , even the fold 3 , there are a lot of people that have had display issues after a short period of time .
Indeed being able to fold a display is amazing tech , at the same time to me at least , it just does not pass the muster for acceptable durability and longevity.
I keep all my phones for years , my galaxy S8+ at over 5 years old is still in pristine condition with a beautiful 529 drive display without a mark on it and its never needed a repair in its life , the same goes for my galaxy note 9 which I'm typing this post on.
I can see the good points about the extra screen realestate on the fold , but imo it comes with too many compromises for me anyway.
I was in a phone store yesterday looking iphones and a sales guy showed me his fold 4 and opened it up , the screen looked very plasticy and sort of grotty and scratched up how plastic screen protectors always go.
I don't want to sound like a hater , but you can see where I'm coming from.

I swapped from my s22 ultra to my first foldable in fold 4 and I love my new phone its an amazing device
I did the same and I'm not going back...1 week with my Fold 4 and I'm loving it even more than when I first got the s22 Ultra. I'm still looking for the right case for me but wow this phone is amazing no lag whatsoever, s22 Ultra on paper has a better resolution display and higher ppi but the Fold 4 screen is very vibrant and looks just as good considering it has a bigger display.

It's amazing for sure. I have the S22U too, and since the fold it's a bit like the iPhone, only used when I really need it for specifics. The S22U for portrait shots, the iPhone for Airdrop/facetime. The fold is my go to phone for everything else, watching content, work, socials, gaming... Absolute beast.

I especially like that you dedicate time to Dex. I don't use it much either, but it's actually a BIG step in the progression of smartphones. Before long, phones will be our main workstations, that's the trajectory of the technology. I'm the chief engineer on a major online security SDK, and I can already use my phone for production-level development, running an Ubuntu VM via Andronix. (I don't do it regularly, but I've tried it and it's totally doable.)
Have you played _Alien: Isolation_ on this phone? It's _phenomenal_ . I connect a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse, and it's the same as playing on my Dell XPS 15 laptop with nVidia GTX. Amazing mobile gaming experience.

I'm hearing alot of good things about the whitestone premium screen protector for the fold 4. seems to give the the display that more premium glass feel, and is apparently more durable aswell

@Ultra Clean Ovens yeh, but not everybody is as skilled at putting screen protectors on phones. And this isn't a regular phone, so the product might be solid but the user error factor is still there. The result is mixed amazon reviews
I use a fold 4 and I use the Luxmo Adjustable Long Arm Car Cup Holder Mount Stand Cradle as my in car mount
Its absolutely the favourite device that I own.
With an external keyboard and mouse, I can absolutely work from a cafe, where laptops are not allowed. Microsoft Remote Desktop and VNC Viewer work like a charm.
Battery life could have been a bit better. When I am carrying a keyboard and mouse around, a power-bank that doubles as a stand, is absolutely worth it.
I love my fold 4 , tbh has soo much real estate to use ✅

I got the iPhone 14 pro max, and I love it, but I'll come back to my Fold 4 all the time because it's just a great phone. As you said iPhone is getting boring, and it is, thats why I always try out the new Phones coming out. Waiting for my Pixel 7 pro :-). But anyway, I use my fold for business and iPhone for my privat stuff. So 100% happy with both devices now. Thanks for your great Video, like always! Cant wait for your next one!
If you go into settings and search full screen apps you can change insta to full screen along with any other app really fixes that issue flat out. Makes it full screen and the experience goes from meh to how you would expect it to be .

I'm a Samsung/Android user, and a tablet user. I've been lusting after one of these since the first Fold 1 images came out, and finally took the plunge a little over a month ago, tempted by offers I couldn't refuse from my operator (loyalty bonnus and buyback of my 3 y/o S10+) and Samsung's enticements which meant I paid EUR 73.- upfront for the phone, plus EUR 30.- per month extra on my bill for 23 months- Still way ahead, here.
Sorry, had to gloat about my deal a bit, but I am super-happy with the phone so far, meets all my expectations and so happy to have a big, but not tablet-sized screen on the go. I am mindful of what I am holding in my hands at all times, but it feels solid and "chunky" and durable. I take care, but not in a kid-gloves way. Performance is more than ample for my needs, sad at the loss of an SD card slot, but not a deal-breaker. Good price on Samsing case and S Pen too, so no complaints and looking forward to many years of good service. That display!!!
The band in the middle drives me insane . Nope returned mine ! Also when you watch youtube like you are at 3:00 in the video the screen is the same size as a iphone 13 max . Still a gimmick
It's not for everyone, I agree. Personally, I am loving it and glad to see some innovation in this industry.
My only concern is the durability of the inner screen/hinge after a year or two. I've seen a few fold 3 devices and the crease, screen protector looks kinda bad after a year of usage and also the hinge started creaking when you open the device.

I'm just used gboard for your keyboard and the talk to text feature works really well and you can customize your keyboard like the background you can put your own pictures in there or the pre-installed ones
Sometimes internet drops it's one of the things I dislike about it but besides all that I love my z fold 4
When you Open up the phone You could use the small screen as the preview screen to take selfies with a rear cameras and use it for conference calls.
Therefore you're using the best cameras for all your conference calls that no other phone can do using their main cameras..
In other words you don't have to use or sacrifice quality anymore using selfie cameras like all phones..

Pros: Quality build. Feels nice in the hand. S pen support. Amazing screen on both the front and main display. Immersive experience. Sound is excellent. Multi-tasking monster. Camera is great. The functionality is excellent i.e using front display as a view finder. The snap dragon CPU is excellent best in any android currently. Very snappy and responsive. Samsung guaranteed 5yrs of software updates is excellent. An overall versatile phone and tabet experience.
Cons: Samsung needs to give their most expensive phone their best screens. iPhone 14 pro max borrowing Samsung OLED technology at 1000 nits is unacceptable not to have the same tech or better in their flagship phones. Cameras should be either the same as the S22 ultra or improved or tweaked some. Unacceptable to just slap the S22+ cameras on their most expensive phone. No s-pen support on the front screen is unacceptable. S - pen does not support blue tooth shutter functionality as the other phones to take remote pictures.
Ways to improve for fold 5. Slightly wider front display. Full flagship cameras. Full S pen functionality. House the S pen into the phone. Use their latest flagship OLED technology. Make it less bulky and include front display protective cover.
Definitely agree on the display, it would be a monster with a brighter display. The front screen is more of an added bonus for me, when I can't be bothered to open the Fold and just want to quickly reply to something or read something quickly. Not much use really, the keyboard is tiny on it too so not very practical. 100% agree on the S-Pen, it would be awesome if they can figure out a way of housing it.
@@AlexGTech I guess the front display it's subjective. I find that I use it as a normal phone. I have small hands so the functionality is good for me. Great review 👍 just as you it's my first fold phone so I'm in a honey moon phase right now. When I open it at public spaces everyone is like whoa ohh ahhh. Definitely a conversation starter. Looking forward to future iterations of this phone/tablet.
You can format all of those apps to fit the screen perfectly like IG just make it where it fills up the whole screen and it works beautifully
Gotta say I have been impressed but today I found lines down the center of my screen (likely protector) and have to send it in for a repair (or take it to ubreakifix)

I have to say that I have decided to use my iPhone 13 PM for one more year (I bought an Ultra watch to amuse myself meanwhile!) but if the iPhone 15 is as dull as the 13/14 then I will move to the Fold 5 I suspect.
Coming from an iPhone the keyboard would be about the last thing on my list of concerns. The compatibility with my Apple iMac Pro and my wife's iPhone (which she won't change) are more compelling issues for me.
The ecosystem is a big consideration for sure, not just for ourselves but our friends and family. Totally get that 👊🏼
I've had the Fold 4 since the day it was released. It is far from perfect, but still an amazing device that is unique from the rest of the pack. I do find that apps can crash more often than my previous phones. I'm sure this will get better as updates come out, it's not bad, but some apps do crash now and again. The worst part of the phone is it's bulk, both folded size and overall weight. Sure it fits in your pocket, but no doubt, it's awkward and heavy in your pocket and I find myself holding it more often now than putting it in my pocket like I use to. But the overall experience is so much better than any other phone I've used that I can already never go back to a non-folding phone. Typing on the split keyboard in open mode is very easy and fast. Love it. And now I can actually use productivity apps like Word, Excel, Power Point and it's very workable. Taking notes in meetings with the S-pen, amazing. To me, the only thing that needs to improve is the thickness when folded and the weight of the device. If you give a phone like this a try I can't imagine anyone settling for a "normal" phone again. One thing that makes me a bit worried is the sound it makes when unfolding. I don't know how to explain it, almost like the sound cling wrap would make if you folded a lot of it up into a square and then unfolded it. It's not a creak, not a crunch, just an odd noise that just doesn't inspire confidence. I bought the extended warranty so I'm not too worried about it. But, it does make you take pause now and again. I'm guessing two generations from now, perhaps the Fold 6 is going to be an amazing device once they slim things down and the apps mature for the format.
Loving your app design and the affects on the flip. That’s why I didn’t get one I feel it would be very heavy and I was never used a flip and the price of course. I really hope Apple designs one. Good idea of going into a shop and holding one nice video Alex enjoy your weekend 😎👏🇮🇪

I’ve been watching your videos on this z fold 4 in a while because i am trying to switch to it from iphone 13 pro max. I’m currently using my iphone 13 pro max for at least 9 months. Should you recommend fold 4 over my iphone 13 pro max? I’m kind of hesitant about it’s durability and long term of use.

I traded in my note 20 for the beige fold 4. I love it, I have the sand Coloured S pen Case, it goes So Well with the beige. i 'was Struggling to find a Screen Protector but just bought are spigen glass one hopefully its good.
For car mounts, I bet the kit from Planet Computers would work well with this. I have 2 of their keyboard phones, and they support a very wide feel to get the whole phone with the keyboard extended.

I love this phone it is my first fold. These are my personal negatives though . The crease yes I have gotten used to it but you DEF still notice it alot. The screen also has this plastic looking glare that always shows forcing me or occasionally tilt the phone so I can see the screen, secondly while watching youtube I noticed while watching shorts on the big display it always cuts off the top of the video I am forced to close the phone and watch it on the smaller display in order to get the full aspect ratio of the youtube shorts, also not sure about you guys but this issue here might be just youtube not being optimized for this phone but when I close the phone the youtube interface is all messed up. The subscriptions become "see through" and over lay over the videos. I have to force close the app to fix this. Other than I love this phone. Battery seems pretty good for such a big phone, the inside camera is pointless lol. Also every time you open the phone after it's closed for a while you hear that weird creak sound despite all these negatives I def enjoy this phone though. No regrets. Good video you made, 👍 ps I used a good car mount I totally agree with you with the display on google maps I love how it looks. The car mount I use is ZeeHoo from Amazon..

I have one issue with the fold 4 and that is no storage expansion
I've had mine for a month now, I use Whatsapp group video calls alot and having it open to have a bigger screen is amazing, except the camera quality isnt great, ruins it for me. Come on Samsung ! Have the iPhone 11. Thinking of switching and getting the fold 4 over the flip 4. What would you recommend?
It’s a very different experience but the Fold has been an eye opener for me. If you want to move to Android this is definitely a very stable one to go to. I haven’t tried the Flip but I really like how friendly to use this is. If you get a good deal where you are, it’s definitely worth giving the Fold a go…

Stating the obvious, but the main barrier to entry is the price. It means only a tiny percentage of the world can afford it. The average price of phones sold is just $300, so $1800 or more, is crazy for most. But those with high disposable incomes, this is a good complementary device; as I would argue that most of us still need a laptop and/or tablet; and possible another phone (beach, hiking, for nights out when a brick is not helpful, etc).
Expensive new stuff are mostly nice, so the Fold4 will impress, if you have the money, but is it the best choice for most of us? Not yet, IMHO.
Nailed it Andy. I think Samsung are being aggressive in some places with the price and Marketing but it's still a very expensive phone. Way beyond my expectations though as to how ergonomic and sturdy it feels, despite the weirdness of it being a foldable 🤣
On a 3 year contract I'm paying the same monthly as I was for my Note 10 Plus which was on a 24 month contract.
@@adamski101 That is what I would expect, as the Fold4 is about 50% more expensive than an S22U, so two years will pay the S22U and three years of repayments, the Fold4. If you ended your contract for the Fold after two years you would have to pay £550 in early termination charges.

I agree with everything you've said except not feeling expensive, the phone Is incredibly well made and tough for what it is (if you want to be blown out on how tough it is, watch Jerry rigs everything video of this phone) and yes, you've made a big mistake by removing the inner screen protector, on Instagram I prefer to use it with the whole screen ratio even if it's not perfect, I'm happy so far with this beast after spending the last 5 years with the best Apple can offer.
Thank you. Yes, maybe I should have made that clearer. The feel on the display itself doesn't feel expensive to me (maybe due to me removing the protector, not sure) The actual build quality is incredible and feels very sturdy and surprisingly well built as you say.
@@AlexGTech i had the fold 2 and the screen had a plastic sticky feel to it. It other words it didn't feel good 😕 I ordered a new screen protector for the inner display that was advertised as having a glass feel to it. And boy that made all the difference, it almost felt like the normal phone glass that's made these days 👍 Can't remember the name of it though, but it's out there 😁

The thickness is the key. The folding is to make it appear smaller. On ALL phones, even if you are a billionaire, they require a case. Time and convenience of not replacing it and downloading and setting up all your crap. This is really a tablet, that os more portable and can be used as a phone. (Crease withstanding) It's really a party piece and a stimulus. Folding phones were supposed to be smaller to transport. Notice how most review phones without a case. All my phones for the last 20 years, including the first iPhone had a case. Phones, like my Flip and Fold look great without a case but, that's been about 20 minutes of years of use. 25W and 4400mah isn't great. It doesn't feel expensive because of the material needed to have a folded screen. It's really plastic, despite what Samsung has said for years. It's so unnecessary (I still don't know why they don't make a screen that is 16:9 or 16:10 or whatever RUclips and movies are shot in.)
